i like stela too but i reffered to the foreign gymnasts whom i would like to win if it were not for stela. But now i would like to publish an article about a sweedish gymnast who is forbidden to participate in beijing under a weak argument: "she is not too healthy to prepare well". Analyse you too and say if it is right- me, i doubt:
"Despite the Swedish Olympic Committee's decision to not send Veronica Wagner to the 2008 Olympics, Wagner's admirers around the world continue to support her cause.

Shortly after Wagner won the all-around title at Swedish Championships last month, the SOC informed her and her coach, Staffan Soderberg, that Wagner would not be sent to Beijing.

"They think she is too injured to be well prepared," Soderberg told IG. "Her doctor, the ortoped who was with us on the floor during Competition I [preliminaries] in Athens in 2004, does not agree with the Olympic Committee, but they build their decision on what two physiotherapists are saying."

Soderberg said the injury in question was originally a back problem, but has led to an imbalance of Wagner's left knee.

"The back is now OK, but she is still having a little pain in the knee," Soderberg said. "It's not inside the knee, but on the back side of the knee, and it's probably caused by the ichias nerve. As I said, the specialist says it's not a big issue, but for the SOC it obviously was."

Soderberg cited Wagner's performance at the Swedish Championships as evidence of her fitness for the Beijing Games that will take place in August.

"On floor she scored exactly the same as her personal best on that event," he said. "On beam she was 0.15 from her personal best." (See video below).

Stefan Lindeberg, chairman of the SOC's Executive Board, clarified the committee's decision.

"The reason for not sending Veronica Wagner to the Games is that she has had different injury problems since last autumn," Lindeberg told IG. "She will still need weeks of rehab before being able to increase her training load."

At the same time, Lindeberg also acknowledged Wagner's contributions to the sport in her native country.

"We are fully aware of her capacity and importance for artistic gymnastics in Sweden," he said.

Wagner placed 46th all-around in team preliminaries at the 2007 World Championships, and thereby earned the Swedish women their only individual berth for the Beijing Games. At the 2008 European Championships, held in Clermont-Ferrand, France, in April, she placed 12th among gymnasts who performed on all four events in team preliminaries. No formal all-around contest took place in Clermond-Ferrand.

Soderberg said Wagner's worldwide supporters are rallying to her Olympic cause via an online petition. (Fans can sign the petition by filling in their name (Namn) and city/country (Stad/ort) in the fields below the photo of the woman and finally clicking "Skriv under.") More than 4,200 people have already signed the petition to encourage the SOC to reverse its decision.

Soderberg said the involvement of Wagner's admirers in Sweden and abroad is helping Wagner cope with the decision.

"Veronica is of course devastated, and there is [the petition] to try to make the SOC change their minds," he said. "I don't think it will happen, but it's a great support to Veronica."
and there is her performance at sweedish competition: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=M7D2UUvhek8
her exercise reminds me of Andreea Raducan - i find it similar to it moreover in the beginning

Oana, thanks a lot about the news on Wagner. I had no idea there can be such a situation. From the movie you posted, she's very good on beam, she;s sooo sure on herself!!!! It;s such a stupid decision to take out from the Olympics the gymnast who was able to qualify your country. Moreover, she doesn't seam too bad either on beam or on floor, there is no sign of her performances being affected by her injuries. If she's able to compete, then let her compete!!!

Hello everyone - I am back from the competition in Schwäbisch-Gmünd.

God, I would love to see Stela win that title on bars, but it will be hard.....it depends on if everyone will hit......
And on Wagner, yes she is a really good gymnast - and looking at her routines she`d definately deserve to be in Beijing!

Anyway, here is a photo of our winners in Schwäbisch-Gmünd!!! I hope you like it.

thanks martina for the kiud photo you posted, now i looked on your site and i saw a thing which surprised me a lot - when you put the question: whom would you like to see in the artistic gymnastics final?" there were people enough not to declare Romania s team through the favourites. Do you think those who did not mention Romania in final told this because of not having sufficient trust in the present team or they may be afraid of not gaining again? (although it can be seen far away from we cant be on the first place in team"s competition)

Oh, you are all welcome - thanks so much for all your kind words! I hope to bring some more photos online soon. I`m sorry, but I do not have any videos - I was not able to take any cause I took photos.
There is a competition report from me on the website of International Gymnast also.

So yeah, I was there for the competition. And I was more than happy to see Cerasela, Anamaria and especially also Gutu being there after Stela and Sandra were rested. Cerasela still has taped her ankle and only does the easy dismounts. However, her gymnastics is beautiful, and she probably has the best form in this team. It`s too bad she had a nightmare on bars in the competition when she fell off 3 times. To me it looked like she was totally out of her routine after the first fall. She kind of looked a bit confused. Maybe the disappointment about falling. But she was back with a steady beam routine after that.
About Anamaria - she competed but had watered down routines. And she skipped floor when the other girls went through their routines without mistakes. And one thing I have to say is that she`s such a sweet and nice girl!! When you pass her she smiles at you. And when I left from breakfast on Sunday morning the girls were coming, and she smiled again and said hello! So nice!

Oh, and maybe Patrascu just also had a bad day on Saturday. On Sunday morning it seemed like she did not feel well......Mr. Forminte took care of her very nicely though which was great to see.
And the girls are all looking beautiful in casual clothes!

I was not able to really speak to them though - there was either no time or not the right moment. Like I did not want to disturb them when they had breakfast......We did talk to Ariella Käslin though.

Please let me know if you have any more questions - I`ll be glad to answer.

    Thanks you for your report!!!!

After you have seen Ana and Cera...what do you think? Is there any hope for Beijing?
I really think that Cera has enough time to make her dismounts..if she is 100% healthy.

Actually I was hoping Cerasela might show her dismounts at this competition - or at least more than a simple layout. I don`t know what her status is. Maybe she tries some dismounts in training already. I am not sure if they are going to take the risk to have her compete the dismounts in Beijing. I mean she would have to train them to be able and land them after the break she`s had.....

For Ana I think there certainly is hope. By the way, what is her injury exactly? I just read she was having some pains......I hope with the watered down routines they are just resting her right now.

Though maybe it had a good reason Gutu was there also. Maybe she would be the one next up if one of the others can not compete. Though Cerasela was not listed in the first team named..........it seems anything is still possible right now.

The exact injury of Ana is unknown for us too. Just that she had groin pains and the doctors couldn't tell what is wrong with her. But the coaches decided to wait for the pain to heal instead of risking a more obvious injury before Olympics.
At nationals she was seen warming up with the rest of the girls, but she only did jumps instead of leaps.
I'm curious, since she did beam, she did her leaps now, including the swich ring?

About the other girls, do you remember how many falls and from who have been in vault and bars?

Thanks so much for the information vlad!

Yes Ana did do her leaps - beautifully! But I think she did not do the switch ring......I`m having a few photos of her leaps on beam too.

Hmm I was not able to follow all routines by the girls cause when they were on bars and vault I took photos of the teams on beam and floor. But I remember Anamaria falling off bars on her release. The 3 falls of Cerasela did not count. I do not remember any falls on beam, and there definately was none on floor.

Gabriela Dragoi led Romania to victory over Germany and France at a tri-meet held Saturday in Schwäbisch-Gmünd.

With the Olympic Games less than a month away, the competition proved exciting as most of the gymnasts were at their possibly best physical shape. The competition is a final test for all the competitors, and the tension is building up toward the Games.

Germany was able to go up against some of the world's best gymnasts with Romania, France and individual gymnasts from Spain, Czech Republic, Switzerland and Belgium.

Romania decided to give stars Steliana Nistor and Sandra Izbasa a rest, but used this chance to bring Cerasela Patrascu and Madalina Gutu in addition to Olympic hopefuls Andreea Tamarjan, Andreea Grigore, Gabriela Dragoi, Andreea Acatrinei and Daniela Druncea. Patrascu, who suffered a double knee injury at the Europeans in April, competed exhibition routines on bars and beam just as she did at Romanian Nationals.

France left Olympic team member Pauline Morel home with a slight injury, but Olympic alternate Rose-Elliandre Bellemare was in action.

Germany decided to have Katja Abel compete bars only as part of the mixed group, and moved Marie-Sophie Hindermann (suffering from an Achilles injury) into the team lineup on bars and beam. Kim Bui, set as the alternate for the Olympics, competed on all events. Jenny Brunner competed exhibition.

Romania started on one of its weaker events with vault. France did not have the best of a start on beam with Katheleen Lindor counting two falls and also Magaly Hars also falling. Germany had a very good start on bars though with Hindermann bringing the top score of the meet (16.000). Anja Brinker hit her routine for 15.950, giving Germany the lead after rotation one.

Germany managed to maintain the lead after the second rotation, even though three gymnasts counted falls on beam. However, Romania was not able to make up ground on bars with four scores in the 13 range. Without Nistor they were not able to deliver huge scores on this event, and there also were some mistakes. Patrascu was not able to leave a good impression this time, with three falls and still only dismounting with a simple layout flyaway.

France had some very nicely choreographed routines on floor, but the team met a nightmare when anchor Cassy Vericel was injured landing her second tumbling pass, a double layout. She was immediately rushed to the hospital for X-rays, which revealed an ankle sprain. Without her, France was weakened for the last two rotations.

In rotation three Romania was eager to catch up and show good routines on beam, and all the gymnasts avoided falls. Tamarjan did not compete full difficulty, though, because of an ongoing groin injury. Patrascu showed a beautiful routine here but again still only used a simple layout as dismount.

Germany again had a good rotation on floor without bigger mistakes. Brinker did not show her full difficulty yet because of a recent injury, but Bijak and also especially Kim Bui showed very good tumbling. Bui also earned the biggest cheers from the crowd for her routine. It was a nice surprise for the audience to still see Germany leading the competition after this rotation.

But after vault the Germans fell behind Romania. Oksana Chusovitina pulled out at the least minute because of problems with her Achilles, and her score on vault certainly was missing. This gave Romania the chance to take the lead with consistent if unspectacular routines on floor.

For Germany it was still a great success to end up in second, 1.1 behind Romania. France had to settle for third but still provided the top all-around scorer with Marine Petit. Dragoi was second individually followed by Acatrinei.

The Czech Republic's 2008 Olympian Kristyna Palesova was fourth, followed by Bijak, who proved that she can really able an asset to the German team in Beijing. Spain's Lenika de Simone, who secured her berth to Beijing last weekend at the Spanish Championships, finished sixth.

i hope our girls take a lesson from chusovitina, she is the best example that if you have will you cand make performance no matter what the age is, take a look at this article:
Preparing for her fifth Olympic Games, Oksana Chusovitina marked her 33rd birthday Thursday.
"I feel perfectly, like I'm still 18 years old!" she told IG this week.

A German citizen since 2006, Chusovitina defines "veteran" like no other gymnast today. Many of her competitors were not yet born when she won her first world championships gold medal in 1991.

Today a mother to a 9-year-old son, Chusovitina presses on with impressive results. In 2008 she won the vault title at the European Championships, and the all-around title at the German national championships.

"I continue training because I really love gymnastics and I still have a zeal for it," she said.

Under coach Svetlana Kuznetsova, Chusovitina made her world debut at the 1991 World Championships in Indianapolis. Originally the alternate to the Soviet team, she moved into the lineup when teammate Yelena Grudneva was injured.

Chusovitina delivered the goods in competition in Indianapolis, helping her team win the gold medal and winning the silver medal on vault and tying for the floor exercise gold.

In Indianapolis she also added three new moves to the Code of Points: the hop full and full-out on uneven bars and a layout full-out on floor exercise. She still competes all three elements today.

Following a team gold medal with the Unified team at the 1992 Olympics in Barcelona, Chusovitina began competing for her Uzbekistan. From 1993 to 2005 she won five medals on vault for her native country, and finished 10th in the all-around at the 1996 Olympics in Atlanta.

She married Uzbek wrestler Bakhodir Kurpanov in 1997. She missed the 1997 and 1999 Worlds after suffering a torn Achilles, and becoming a mother to Alisher.

In the fall of 2002, Alisher was diagnosed with acute lymphocytic leukemia. Facing a lack of medical resources in Uzbekistan, she brought Alisher to Germany to seek treatment at the University of Cologne. Fundraisers and donations from gymnastics fans helped the family pay for the treatment.

She accepted an offer to compete for the Germany team in 2003, but had to wait an additional three years for citizenship. Chusovitina, who now trains with Shanna Polyakova in Cologne, said Alisher is healthy and happy today.

"Alisher is doing well," she said. "He is in second grade, and he does gymnastics too — he really loves it!"

With the Olympics in Beijing less than two months away, she had no extravagant plans to celebrate her 33rd, she said Wednesday.

"My plans are the same as always — preparing for the Olympics so I can show everything I can do!" she said.
