parca are o fata mai tristuta asa acum.

    He's Dreaming of Family

    By Ludmila Bezrukova

Sergei Voronov, 20, is going to the 2008 Worlds as a clear favorite, well of a Russian scale for now. After doing well at the January Nationals where he finished first, and then at Eureopans in Zagreb where he was fourth, Sergei became our number one man. His free program this season is especially good. We met the skater and his coach, Alexei Urmanov, at the St. Petersburg Skating Academy, where Sergei trains three times a day, prefering his home rink to the rinks abroad.

    - Did your success at Europeans where you lost to the thrid-place finisher just a little makes you more confident before the Worlds?

I am realistic about what I'm able to do today. I'm strong enough to make the top ten. This is the minimal goal set by my coach.

    - Isn't it too shy for a goal?

As any skater, of course I want to achieve more, and I will try but... I can't jump above my head.

    - Returning from Europeans, what did you changed and improved in your programs?

The Worlds will show what's improved.

    - You were bothered by injuries. Did you ever wanted to quit skating?

Every skater probably gets into a mood like that when he can't do something or is tortured by injuries. But to think seriously about retiring... No, I like skating. I enjoyed it since I was four years old and I liked it more after I came to Alexei Evgenievich Urmanov.

    - Are you calling your coach by his full name? He is just a little older than you are!

We are really not too much apart in age, but Urmanov is my coach and I think there should be some distance.

    - Many find your style similar to Alexei's. Since he is your coach you can't escape that, but on the other hand, it'd be good to bring something of your own...

I want to have my stile and not look like someone else even if it is my beloved coach. I hope it'll come with time.

    - Do you have work disagreements?

It happens, but we try to solve it peacefully without scandals. My personality is not very easy. For Alexei Evgenievich, it's difficult with me.

    - You are such an adorable talented young man, and you are saying you are diffiuclt? Maybe it's not the case, Sergei?

I'm stubborn and I have my own opinion about everything. Sometimes it interferes with work very much.

    - Do you practice from "here" to "there" or above and beyond?

It's different. Sometimes I'm lazy and sometimes I can't sto so the coach has to push me off the ice. It depends on how I feel.

    - Who is your biggest skating rival?

My nerves, I don't alaways manage them well.

    - What's your biggest dream?

To have a good solid family.
