Novice Champion and junior world medallist Marc Ferland to sing at the 2007 HomeSense Skate Canada International
Former international skater and 1984 world junior silver medallist, Marc Ferland will perform the Canadian national anthem at the on-ice opening ceremony of the 2007 HomeSense Skate Canada International Grand Prix on Friday November 2, at the Colisée Pepsi in Quebec City. The opening ceremony is scheduled to take place at 2:00 p.m.
Marc, from Beauport, Qué., has been concentrating on a music career since he hung his skates in the 1980s. Earlier this summer Marc sang at a special show organized for the grand reopening of pavillon de la Jeunesse in Québec City. Other featured performers included Quebec star singer Andrée Waters as well as several Skate Canada athletes including 2004 Canadian Champion Cynthia Phaneuf who skated to Strangers in the Night sung live by Marc Ferland. With his silver medal finish at the 1984 World Junior Figure Skating Championships Marc was the highest ranking Canadian male skater in that competition for 23 years. He held this distinction until this year when Patrick Chan stepped onto the World Junior podium to receive his silver medal.
Representing Club de patinage artistique de Beauport, Marc also competed at the world junior championships in 1983 where he finished in fourth place. At the national level, Marc was Novice Champion in 1982 and went on to win bronze and silver medals at the junior level in 1983 and 1984 respectively.
