Laurent Koscielny has finalised personal terms with Arsenal chief executive Ivan Gazidis and according to reports in France his move to north London is expected to be announced on Monday.
The deal is expected to sign a 4-year deal worth more than £10 million, with bonuses also included after negotiations stalled with Lorient officials on Wednesday evening.
Koscielny, 24, was little-known a year ago when Lorient signed him from Ligue 2 side Tours for just £1.5m but an impressive season brought him to the attention of Gunners boss Arsene Wenger.
Veterans defenders Mikael Silvestre and contract rebel William Gallas are both expected to leave this summer, leaving just Thomas Vermaelen and Johan Djourou as specialist centre backs with Djourou having made just one appearance all last season and only 48 in the League since 2004.

Arsenal are set to land Laurent Koscielny this week after Lorient agreed a deal to sign his replacement.
The French club are expected to announce the signing of Bruno Manga from Ligue Two side Angers SCO after the 21-year-old underwent a medical today.
Manga, who had reportedly attracted interest from Liverpool, is set to cost around £2million and his arrival should hasten Koscielny's departure to Arsenal.
Koscielny's agent was in London last week and it is understood personal terms have been agreed with the 24-year-old and a final transfer fee remains the only issue to be resolved.
Arsenal have already allowed Francis Coquelin to join Lorient on a season-long loan but while the Gunners have offered £8.5m, they may be forced to pay an extra £1.5m in add-ons to seal the deal.
The £10m package would mirror that which secured the signing of Thomas Vermaelen last summer and Koscielny is set to partner the Belgian at the heart of Arsenal's defence next season.
William Gallas has left the club and with Sol Campbell stalling over a new one-year deal and Mikael Silvestre surplus to requirements, Koscielny will be thrown straight into action.
Manager Arsène Wenger remains on the lookout for another centre-back even if Campbell commits his future to the club, with Johan Djourou the only other cover.
Wenger is keen on Neven Subotic, of Borussia Dortmund, but he could cost in excess of £25m.
Other targets include Bolton's Gary Cahill, Everton's Phil Jagielka and Stuttgart defender Serdar Tasci.
Da hai odata sa il vad in alb si rosu.
Plus :
Arsenal have set Stuttgart central defender Serdar Tasci in their sights as they bid to shore up their backline, and are set to battle bitter rivals Tottenham for the youngster's signature.
According to German reports, the 23-year-old has been valued by Stuttgart at €15-20 million.
Tasci, who has also been linked with Juventus, had repeatedly expressed the goal of "playing for a top side abroad."
He is a very talented defender, who can play on the right flank, as well as at centre-half. He is tough, quick, has good technique and has the potential to reach the very top.
Sunderland captain Lorik Cana has made a surprise switch to Turkish side Galatasaray.

It is looking more and more like the Arsenal transfer rumours linking Mark Schwarzer with a move to the Emirates is nothing more than a smokescreen for their true target.
Very early in this transfer window, Arsène Wenger was connected with a move for the Fiorentina keeper, and Frey himself admitted that he thought it was time for him to move on. He said: “I have spoken to (Fiorentina president Diego) Della Valle.
“I will speak again with him after the holidays.
“In life, at times, you need new challenges and I cannot hide the fact that I need that.”
Well now it has been revealed by Sky Sports that Fiorentina have signed Artur Boruc from Celtic, which has obviously paved the way for Frey to get his wish to move on. He is 6ft 3in, and is an occasional French international player, which only increases the chances of Wenger wanting to bring him to Arsenal.
Meanwhile, Sky Sports have also spoken to the Fulham keeper Mark Schwarzer, who has told them that the rumours of him taking a medical at Arsenal are totally untrue, so are we soon going to be hearing a lot more about Frey?
After initial talks with the Reds money men, Hodgson is said to have been told money is tight and he should not expect to receive the £40million transfer war-chest that has been reported in the media recently.
The former Fulham boss has already identified his strikers as an area of concern, with few options behind injury-prone star man Fernando Torres.
Apart from the largely underwheming David Ngog and new signing Milan Jovanovic, the Reds have only a few youngsters on their books with little or no first-team experience.

As a result, Hodgson is hoping to bring in an experienced head who can add something different in attack - and believes Beattie fits the bill.
The powerful target man, 32, played under Hodgson at Blackburn Rovers in the late 1990s after coming through the club's youth system.
And Hodgson highly rates the player, believing he will also represent value for money this summer because of his age and his well-publicised bust-up with Stoke City manager Tony Pulis last season.
Beattie is not seen as a long-term option, but the new Reds manager is thought to be prepared to risk the ire of the Anfield faithful by signing a player he believes will have an instant impact on the squad.

Martin Jol is set to be named as Fulham's new manager later this week, BBC Sport understands.
The 54-year-old Ajax coach has had preliminary talks with the London club but will speak to Fulham officials later this week to negotiate a deal.
Jol managed Tottenham between 2004 and 2007 and will replace Roy Hodgson, who joined Liverpool on 1 July.
Ivory Coast coach Sven-Goran Eriksson had also been linked with the vacancy at Craven Cottage.
