American Robby Ginepri defeated Kenneth Carlsen 6-3, 6-4 Tuesday to advance to the second round of the Thailand Open. Second-seeded Marcos Baghdatis withdrew after injuring his right shoulder during a practice session Friday. He will be replaced by Satoshi Iwabuchi, who will play Julien Benneteau. Ginepri squandered a 5-2 lead in the second set and lost two games before closing out the match.
