<p><strong>Nach der verpassten EM-Quali ist Irlands Nationaltrainer Steve Staunton (38) entlassen worden. </strong>In einer mehrstündigen Nachtsitzung entschied das Präsidium des irischen Fußballverbandes, die Zusammenarbeit mit dem Rekordnationalspieler vorzeitig zu beenden. Sechs Tage zuvor hatte der deutsche Gruppengegner durch ein enttäuschendes 1:1 gegen Zypern die EM-Quali endgültig verpasst.
