There is good news and bad news - depending on how you look at it.
The good news is the knee injury is progressing well - the bad news is that it has been decided that Marat will not play until the St. Petersburg Open followed by Bercy and then Shanghai Masters Cup. Ths will give him some practice before the end of the season to test out the knee and then he will start the new season of 2006 fully fit. At this stage it has not been confirmed which tournament he will start with in 2006 but it is anticipated he will start with a regular tournament rather than an exhibition match.

World number five Marat Safin - who will miss both the Madrid Masters and his home tournament in Moscow - is aiming for an October 17 return at the ATP St. Petesrburg tournament. Safin, the winner of last year's Madrid Masters, has been out since July with a knee injury.

The Australian Open winner then plans to play the Paris Indoor Masters before taking part in the season-ending Masters Cup in Shanghai.
