Merita citit !

What is the hottest rivalry in international hockey?

The Czech Republic versus Russia? Canada versus USA?

Nope. In the last ten years, an even hotter and more prestigious rivalry has emerged.

Itís the Czech Republic versus Canada. By far. This rivalry is so hot that the Czechs did not play Jaromir Jagr on Thursday in their final exhibition against the Canadians.

Some of you are probably asking, "What the heck is this guy talking about?" But wait a moment. There's an understandable explanation.

This rivalry is quite new, but it's a logical one.

Both are powerful hockey countries, but dwarfed by real-world superpowers. The Canadians have had to sharpen their confidence versus the "Dollar Titans: of the USA, and the Czechs over the years had a tough neighborhood in terms of political and social affairs with their Slavic brothers in Russia.

'This is what I'm talking about!'

In hockey, both developed a very strong hockey culture. The Czechs taught the Russians how to play the game in the late 40's and early 50's. The Canadiens, too, even before the Czechs knew what hockey is all about, taught the Americans to play the game. Philosophies of hockey are totally different in Canada and the Czech Republic, but both are successful.

To draw a soccer parallel, the Czechs are like the Italians of modern hockey: they are the masters of defensive tactics. They sharpened these over the years against the "Big Red Machine" of the Russians, and they have also been very successful against the heavy Canadian artillery. Think about the 1976 Canada Cup, when the Czechs had a 1-0 win over Canada. The Czechs had and still have a very strong influence in terms of the development of European hockey. Especially in the youth programs, you will find a lot of Czech coaches. Their methods to train the young players are recognized as the best.

'No, this is what I'm talking about!'

And when it comes to defending national pride, the Czech coaches stick together to work out the best strategy, to put together all the information needed, just as the Canadians do.

For both hockey nations pride means the essence of their work ethic in hockey. The pride of having a competitive national team is important for the entire nation. In this matter, Czechs and Canadians are pretty much similar.

Thanks to their long and strong tradition, the Czechs think they are able to rule the world of hockey. And as we know, they often have, winning the world title 10 out of a possible 68 times.

But of course, the Canadians think the same way. What the Americans are in economy and military power the Canadians are in hockey, winning the world title 23 times in 58 appearances. They were and still now are back as rulers of the world.

Admittedly, Canadian pride is sometimes hurt because American money rules their national game and therefore their national identity. But nothing can match a Canadian's love for hockey.

But there's only room for one country to be "on top of the world." So when the representatives of two hockey cultures think their place is on top of the world--and have the gold medals to back it up--the result is the hottest rivalry in the world of hockey.

Gabriel
5th May 2005, 11:29

Oricum...nimic special pana acum. Din 4 echipe ale grupei...3 merg mai departe. Sa vedem mai departe....

Hello boys!

S-a ajuns in faza a doua a competitiei.

Astfel fiecare echipa are doua meciuri jucate.

Dorin
13th May 2005, 13:47
Suedezii au un mic complex pentru cehi. Ultimul meci s-a terminat cu 1-6 . Acasa !

:ok:
