“The decision to retire is one that I have thought a great deal about and one that I have not taken lightly. It is the right time.

“It was important to me to leave an organisation in the strongest possible shape and I believe I have done so. The quality of this league winning squad, and the balance of ages within it, bodes well for continued success at the highest level whilst the structure of the youth set-up will ensure that the long-term future of the club remains a bright one.

“Our training facilities are amongst the finest in global sport and our home Old Trafford is rightfully regarded as one of the leading venues in the world.

“Going forward, I am delighted to take on the roles of both Director and Ambassador for the club. With these activities, along with my many other interests, I am looking forward to the future.

“I must pay tribute to my family, their love and support has been essential. My wife Cathy has been the key figure throughout my career, providing a bedrock of both stability and encouragement. Words are not enough to express what this has meant to me.

“As for my players and staff, past and present, I would like to thank them all for a staggering level of professional conduct and dedication that has helped to deliver so many memorable triumphs. Without their contribution the history of this great club would not be as rich.

“In my early years, the backing of the board, and Sir Bobby Charlton in particular, gave me the confidence and time to build a football club, rather than just a football team.

“Over the past decade, the Glazer family have provided me with the platform to manage Manchester United to the best of my ability and I have been extremely fortunate to have worked with a talented and trustworthy Chief Executive in David Gill. I am truly grateful to all of them.

“To the fans, thank you. The support you have provided over the years has been truly humbling. It has been an honour and an enormous privilege to have had the opportunity to lead your club and I have treasured my time as manager of Manchester United.”

Manchester United have put Jurgen Klopp at the top of the shop as Sir Alex Ferguson’s successor.

United’s hierarchy are impressed by the job Klopp has done at Borussia Dortmund and he is the hot favourite to take over from Fergie when he decides to step down.

Klopp has shot to fame in the last couple of years by winning the Bundesliga twice and now taking Dortmund to the Champions League final, with their exciting brand of football destroying Jose Mourinho’s Real Madrid.

The Red Devils are not jumping on the Klopp bandwagon as he has been earmarked for some time, with insiders revealing it is openly discussed among Fergie’s staff that he is THE manager in waiting.

Ferguson has no immediate plans to retire after coasting to a 20th title success and is busily working on targets for next season - and even looking to bring in some new scouts for the next generation.

But Klopp has emerged as the man most suited to seamlessly step in for Ferguson when the time is right - with his work at Mainz and then Dortmund proving his pedigree.

United are hoping that Klopp is not snapped up by any other leading club while they wait for Ferguson to pick is exit date. It would be a major problem if he was a target for a move this summer.

Ferguson will have a big say in his own abdication - and is also a certainty to be consulted on the next manager. He has made no secret of his admiration for the 45-year-old German too.

Shrewd Fergie tipped Dortmund as possible winners of the Champions League long before they became fashionable - and beat Real Madrid in the semis.

Insiders believe Ferguson approves of Klopp as the kind of candidate who would be ideal to pass the reins too - and consult him if he stays on in some capacity as seems likely.

Klopp claims he is committed to Dortmund for next season despite losing a star player or two and that takes the pressure off any clash that would would mean United miss out in the short term.

Am citit azi-noapte putin dintr-un articol de pe The Guardian cum ca ar putea pleca si azi a venit si confirmarea :(. E trist...intr-adevar, fotbalul nu va mai fi la fel. Problema lui Moyes este că nu are experinaţă la un club de nivelul lui United şi nu a câştigat nici un trofeu important în carieră, in afară de locul 1 în championship. În PL maxim locul 5, plus o eliminare ruşinoanasă din Uefa cu Dinamo.

Multumim, Fergie, pt. toate momentele de aur pe care ni le-ai daruit alaturi de titanii tai! :) Eu pe Moyes il vad doar ca o solutie temporara, pana se va gasi un antrenor de calibru, cu realizari, gen Mourinho (sunt convins ca ar avea succes mult mai mare decat la Real), Ancelotti, Trappatoni, Capello, Rijkard, etc.
Sunt de parere ca odata cu retragerea lui Ferguson si Giggs apune o epoca, la fel cum s-a intamplat cu Milan dupa retragerea lui Costacurta si Maldini. Din pacate, dupa aia n-a mai fost la fel pt. Milan, sper sa nu se intample idem cu Manchester. Daca ar veni niste seici ca la City sau PSG si ar baga o caruta de bani si ar aduce nume de calibru si cu experienta, ar rupe tot ani buni de acum inainte. Altfel, doar vor alterna la titu cu City sau Chelsea. E usor sa ajungi in varf, dar foarte greu sa te mentii acolo. Ferguson a inteles asta si a pastrat mereu un echilibru intre jucatorii batrani si cei nou-veniti, garnitura de viitor.

probabil starea lui este putin mai grava decat cea prezentata. se spune ca o sa ramana director si ambasador al clubului, macar atat. niciodata nu am fost un fan al lui dar e imposibil sa nu ii apreciezi valoarea: 38 de trofee e ceva incredibil, ceva demn de jocurile de manager. sunt curios cine vine, nu cred ca e mourinho. prima varianta care imi vine in cap ( fara sa citesc posibili inlocuitori ) ar fi fostul elev steve bruce de la hull.

Avem deja datele sigure:
- Atat inainte, intre si dupa intalnirile ManUtd si Real, SAF si Mourinho s-au gratulat mai mult decat era necesar :D
- Mourinho a spus la conferinta de dupa returul cu Dortmund ca se va duce in Anglia unde e sigur iubit
- Varianta Chelsea e improbabila pt Mourinho avand in vedere cearta mare dintre el si Abramovich odata cu plecarea portughezului de la Chlesea
- SAF nu e genul care s-o lase pe ManUtd in mainile oricui, mai ales ca ramane in continuare in cadrul clubului
- Succesorul trebuie sa aiba deja cunostinte din interior de cum merge treaba la ManUtd
- SAF are nevoie de un om puternic pe banca care sa impuna respect, mai ales in fata arbitrilor :drak:

Retragerea sa este o pierdere pt fotbal in general. In epoca asta agitata unde se schimba antrenori in medie la fiecare 6 luni in campionatele importante (mai putin Anglia totusi) SAF este un reper interesant. Este un pariu castigat in timp.
A cunoscut vremuri dificile, a castigat ulterior, a ratat multe dar a revenit de fiecare data si in final ... Manchester are perioada cea mai prolifica dpdv trofee cu el la conducere.
Nu cred ca vom mai avea o cariera asa lunga la un club. Wenger e mic copil ;)
