Tottenham Hotspur Football Club today announced that U.S. based HP, the world's largest technology company, will be the Club's principal partner for the 2013/2014 season.

HP has chosen to extend the sponsorship agreement between the Club and Autonomy PLC, who has been a Club sponsor since 2010 and was acquired by HP in 2011, for a further season.

Daniel Levy, Chairman, Tottenham Hotspur, said: "We are delighted to welcome the HP brand back to the Club having previously been a Club partner in the 90's. HP has established itself as one of the world's leading technology companies and we look forward to working with them once again for the coming season."

Tottenham Hotspur Football Club today unveiled the Club’s new Under Armour home and away kits for the forthcoming 2013/2014 season.

This year’s innovative home kit features white shirt with blue and white taping around the neck, blue shorts and blue socks, which pay tribute to the kits worn during the Club’s successful 1960s period. The bespoke Cadet Blue in the home kit is the deepest, darkest blue that Spurs have worn. From head-to-toe the away kits are in a new energetic bright blue dubbed Capri.

The new Under Armour kits are extremely light, weighing only 3.8 ounces. These are the quickest drying kits ever produced by the brand, with the fabric drying 50% faster than previous shirts. Embedded with the brand’s patented HeatGear technology, players are ensured to remain cool and light, even in the harshest weather conditions.

The kits are available to pre-order from today for delivery on the 10th August, the same date they go on sale at the White Hart Lane Megastore as well as the Club’s official website.

Performance Training Collection – designed with innovative product technologies to ensure players train their best in all weather conditions:
The technical innovations within the authentic home and away kits are also evident within the training apparel ranges. In the warm months, Tottenham Hotspur will feature HeatGear® shortsleeve training t-shirts and training shorts to keep players cool. As the season progresses, the players will be able to sport a mid-layer top constructed in Under Armour’s Charged Cotton STORM technology to keep players dry. Treated with a water resistant finish, Charged Cotton STORM repels rain and snow for all-weather training. Finally, as the winter months approach, Tottenham Hotspur will benefit from Under Armour ColdGear® and Under Armour STORM fabrications, keeping the players warm and dry with technical layering quarter zips and jackets.

Retail Collection:
Under Armour is also launching a Tottenham Hotspur Retail Collection. A full range of graphic t-shirts, training tees, shorts, track jackets, quarter zips, and accessories will be available to enjoy both on and off the pitch for both the players and the home supporters.

Third Kit:
The 2013/2014 third kit will be unveiled later this summer.

The Boys Are Back!

Andre Villas-Boas paid tribute to Younes Kaboul and Sandro after their recovery from long-term injury.

Central defender Younes has played a full part in pre-season training after being sidelined for the best part of a year with a knee injury and then a muscle problem on his return at the end of last season.

Midfielder Sandro is in his final stage of recovery after a sustaining a serious knee injury against QPR in January and will join the squad again in training next week. He will then travel out with the squad for the Barclays Asia Trophy in Hong Kong.

“It’s a very good start to pre-season for both players,” reported Andre on Friday.

“It’s great for Younes after a year out to come back to training and have double sessions with no problems.

“Sandro hit six months last week (he was injured on January 12) and we are on plan, he’s made an excellent recovery and we’re very happy with him.

“One more week and he’ll join the group and he will also join us for full training in Hong Kong.”

Last season’s PFA Player, Young Player, Football Writers and Barclays Player of the Season will make his debut on the cover of FIFA 14 alongside the world’s top footballer, Barcelona and Argentina superstar Lionel Messi.

Speaking about the partnership, Dan Holman, Head of UK Product Marketing EA SPORTS said: “We’re delighted to be working with Gareth Bale, he’s a natural goal scorer and is a perfect fit for FIFA 14’s new Pure Shot feature that allows for numerous new exhilarating and rewarding ways to score. Renowned for his outstanding game-winning goals last season, we’ve worked closely with the EA SPORTS team in Vancouver to motion capture and 3D head scan Gareth so he will be even more authentic than ever in FIFA 14.”

Commenting on his cover appearance, Gareth said: “To be on the front cover is a massive honour, when you look at the calibre of players that have been on there in the past they are legends of the game. So for me to be here now is a dream come true and it’s great to be involved.”

miril
28th July 2013, 02:14
Nu dar valoare de expunere massmediala are, sponsori globali, Time Square, EA, samd. In plus cine-ti da tie 95 de milioane?

In plus, Gallas si-a incheiat contractul anul trecut. COYS!

Vorba lui Wenger, un jucator trebuie sa aiba in primul rand constanta si constanta in motivatie pentru a putea reusi sa ajunga printre cei mai buni, ori eu cred cu tarie ca Vlad Chiriches are destula motivatie si inteligenta sa inteleaga ca doar de el depinde ascensiunea asta. :)

In final, putina muzica in tonul isteriei transferurilor sau cam ce-i spune Perez lui Bale:

In niciun caz, mai degraba in...alta parte.

Corect, Messi. COYS!

Am pus AIA pe tricou. In Europa. COYS!

Tottenham Hotspur today (August 15, 2013) announced AIA Group Limited (AIA), one of the world's leading providers of insurance services, as their Cup Shirt Partner for the coming 2013/2014 season.

http://www.tottenhamhotspur.com/uploadedImages/Shared_Assets/Images/News_images/SEASON_13-14/August_2013/AIA/aia_730.jpg?n=2578&targetTypeID=HighResNewsImage

The AIA brand will appear on the front of the Club's shirts during all of the Club's matches in the Europa League, The FA Cup and the Capital One Cup. AIA and the Club will also work together on a range of brand and marketing initiatives, as well as tailored CSR initiatives that serve the communities of markets in which AIA operates in the Asia-Pacific region.

Commenting on the partnership, Tottenham Hotspur Chairman Daniel Levy said: “We are delighted to welcome AIA, one of the world’s leading life insurers, as a Tottenham Hotspur Partner. AIA has a unique and long history in Asia, and today is a high-growth Company and a clear market leader in their field. We are pleased to have the AIA name on our shirts, particularly given the stature and strength of the AIA brand. We look forward to working closely with AIA over the coming season and introducing our Club to more fans in AIA’s home, the dynamic Asia-Pacific region.”

Mark Tucker, AIA Group Chief Executive and President, said: “AIA is proud to be supporting Tottenham Hotspur. We know that Spurs has a massive fan base in Asia and in general that English football holds an immense and increasing attraction to football fans throughout the region. We are excited by our association with Spurs and to be working with them as we continue to communicate the strength of the AIA brand to consumers in our 17 markets around the Asia-Pacific region.”

The announcement of AIA as Cup Shirt partner follows the Club's confirmation earlier this year of HP as the Club's Premier League shirt Partner.

Our Cup Shirt will be available to purchase from August 22.

Gareth Bale out of Tottenham's first three games of season The Gurdian David Hytner

Gareth Bale, in limbo over his proposed transfer to Real Madrid, will not play in Tottenham Hotspur's opening three matches of the season.

Bale has not trained fully or played in the past four weeks as he has suffered from, first, a minor gluteal injury and then a slight foot problem. At the same time, the 24-year-old has had to contend with the frustration of the Tottenham chairman, Daniel Levy, blocking the move that he wants to the Bernabéu. Real have offered €100m (£86m) for him but Levy wants £100m or the cash-plus-player equivalent. At present, there is impasse.

The Wales forward has missed virtually the whole of pre-season and fears that if the transfer goes through to Real, he might struggle for sharpness at the outset. He has been reluctant, though, to put his body at risk for the fear of suffering any problem that could derail the move.

The manager, André Villas-Boas, said Bale would miss the Premier League opener at Crystal Palace on Sunday, the Europa League play-off first leg at Dinamo Tbilisi next Thursday and the league game at home to Swansea City on Sunday week, because he has little match fitness.

Tottenham face the return against Tbilisi on 29 August before playing the north London derby at Arsenal on 1 September, one day before the transfer window closes. Bale is a doubt for both of those games meaning that, if he gets the transfer, he might already have played his last game for Tottenham.

"Gareth hasn't been involved since the first friendly [against Swindon Town on 16 July] so pre-season has gone by without him being involved so much," Villas-Boas said. "So for Palace, for Tbilisi, for Swansea, he will not be in line to threaten to come back.

"Obviously, he is very far off regarding his fitness compared to the others. So it will take some time to bring him back to the level that the others are [at] after six weeks [of pre-season]. But the player is a super-athlete."

Villas-Boas was asked about Bale's mental state. "Nobody knows because the player doesn't speak," he said, referring to Bale's public silence and attempting to deflect the question. "The only thing that we are able to see or you are able to see is the player arriving in and out of the training ground."

Tottenham's official stance is that Bale is not for sale, although they have had talks with Real, telling them that they would be prepared to do business if Real were to include Alvaro Morata in the deal. Real do not want to lose the young striker.

Tottenham continue to push ahead with signings and announced the £9.5m purchase of the Toulouse defensive midfielder Etienne Capoue, which has taken their overall summer spend in fees to £59.5m. Villas-Boas said the club had other targets in mind, as he talked of their ambitions for the season, while he toed the party line about being unwilling to lose Bale, despite the impression that Tottenham have been spending against the anticipated windfall from his sale. They have an interest in the Anzhi Makhachkala forward Willian and the Steaua Bucharest centre-half Vlad Chiriches, among others.

"There are still a couple of things to do regarding the team," Villas-Boas said. "I think it will probably take us to the last day of the window to complete everything. Our idea is to build a team that has two players per position – three in the goalkeeper's case – that allows us to keep the same quality. This is why we have been very, very active. If we can make all of the deals that we have planned for the remaining weeks, hopefully we can threaten.

"Our idea is to count on Gareth. Ideally, we would like the player to continue belonging to Tottenham … this is where the future is for him and for us. We are aware that Real Madrid are interested in the player. It doesn't mean that we are willing to negotiate him.

"We can speak to the players regarding their ambitions and we can explain to them that, at certain stages, players are under contract and have the responsibility towards their clubs and we, as a club, or the chairman as the person who controls the club, has to defend their own interest."

Villas-Boas, who talked up the role that the technical director Franco Baldini had played so far this summer, was asked whether there might be a worst case scenario regarding Bale, in which he was sold for big money but too late for it to be reinvested.

"No, because this season, we have gone an extra level in terms of our investment in new players and maybe this is a different pattern from seasons previously," Villas-Boas said.

Si tot de la The Guardian:

Premier League preview-Tottenham Hotspur The Guardian David Hytner

Tottenham HotspurSpurs have attacked the transfer market with decisiveness, but their season could rest on whether Gareth Bale stays or goes.

Guardian writers' predicted position: 4th (NB: this is not necessarily David Hytner's prediction but the average of our writers' tips)

Last season's position: 5th

Odds to win the league: (via Oddschecker) 33-1

From a distance, it looked to the Tottenham Hotspur players like a mid-rise block of extremely exclusive apartments. Only when they got nearer did the full majesty dawn. It takes a particular level of wealth to draw the breath of a squad of Premier League footballers but it is safe to say that Joe Lewis and his super-yacht managed to do so.

It was the end of May and the manager, André Villas-Boas, and his players were in the Bahamas, ostensibly for an exhibition match against Jamaica but, really, for a bit of a wind-down. The season had just finished and, although it had brought a club record Premier League points tally, the achievement was undermined by the narrow failure to qualify for the Champions League.

The heartache was temporarily forgotten. Under the Caribbean sun, the players enjoyed the hospitality on Lewis's floating paradise; they took photographs like schoolboys. It was new territory on several levels. Lewis, the billionaire businessman who owns Tottenham, is a Keyser Söze figure. He is never heard and rarely seen. Lewis has entrusted the running of the club to the chairman, Daniel Levy.

But here he was, treating Villas-Boas and the players to a holiday. He was visible, at last. More than anything, though, it was a statement and nobody could ignore it. The guy-behind-the-guy is a serious player. Whatever he wants, he can make happen such as, for example, big contracts. His credit is good. Seeing and meeting Lewis was impressive and reassuring.

Tottenham have made a series of statements over the past 12 months or so. The club's new training ground has become a reality – it is state-of-the-art and magnificent – and the new stadium is in the pipeline. There was also Emmanuel Adebayor's permanent signing last summer. The striker earned £170,000 a week at Manchester City but Tottenham found a way to accommodate him. The wage ceiling has been raised and that makes players think. Perhaps, they can aspire to a top-level contract at White Hart Lane. Tottenham could be their destination club, as opposed to a stepping stone.

The encouragement has continued this summer. Villas-Boas, whose debut season was so nearly perfect and ended up as simply very good, turned down the chance to leave for Paris Saint-Germain. He has been conscious of the need to enter a second season at the same club for the first time in his short managerial career but the decision also reflected the faith that he has in the Tottenham project.

Then there have been the signings. Twice Levy has broken the club's transfer record, first for the £17m midfielder Paulinho from Corinthians and, more recently, for the £26m striker Roberto Soldado from Valencia. Both whetted the appetite of supporters with their debut performances in last Saturday's friendly against Espanyol. The club have also taken the winger Nacer Chadli from FC Twente for £7m while they have announced a £9.5m deal for the Toulouse defensive midfielder Etienne Capoue. Helped by the new technical director, Franco Baldini, they have attacked the market with a decisiveness that has not always been a Tottenham hallmark.

There is, however, the notion of the ultimate statement and it is one that conceivably holds the key to glory or otherwise. The Gareth Bale transfer saga has dominated the summer at Tottenham, with the triple player of the year from last season having set his heart on a proposed move to Real Madrid. The Spanish club have told Tottenham that they will pay €100m (£86m) for him and if the offer was not faxed on club-headed paper in the slightly arcane manner beloved of English clubs, it most assuredly has been made. The bid has been on the table for at least three weeks. Florentino Pérez, the Real president, also met Levy in Florida last week and he told him face to face that he was ready to pay €100m.

But Levy has stood his ground. He wants more – £100m or the cash-plus-player equivalent – and, right now, he is in a position to become the man that said no to world record money, who did not yield to the nine-times European champions.

Levy believes that with Bale and, possibly, a couple more decent buys, he could have a team to challenge for the title. He does not want to sell unless the proceeds can be translated into something that makes Tottenham collectively stronger before the closure of the transfer window. Not unusually, Levy feels that he can ask for the earth, despite having been offered several continents. He has pushed for the inclusion of the striker Alvaro Morata in the deal but Real do not want to lose their best young player.

Levy has form for grand resistance, most notably when he refused to sell Luka Modric to Chelsea in the summer of 2011; the west London club had offered a package worth £40m. Levy will surely remember how Modric was brilliant for Tottenham the following season, at least until March, when the whole team faded. He eventually sold him to Real last August for £33m. Levy also blocked the move that Dimitar Berbatov wanted to Manchester United in the summer of 2007 before he sanctioned it 12 months later for £30.75m.

It has been a tough time for Bale, who wonders whether the glamour move will materialise but Levy cares not for the 24-year-old's sensibilities. To him, Bale is a commodity and he would expect him to reapply himself after 2 September if he were to remain a Tottenham player. Given Bale's innate sense of duty, he probably would do.

It is fatuous to suggest that Bale has always wanted to wear the white of Real – he actually supported Arsenal as a boy – but, over the past few years, he has come to consider the Spanish club as the only one he wants to join. He has begun to learn Spanish and he is determined to seize the opportunity now. It is understandable that he may worry whether it would present itself again.

Bale has barely trained or played for Tottenham in pre-season, as he has carried minor injuries, albeit not ones that would threaten the completion of a Real medical and he does not want to risk exposing himself to any problem that could derail the move. It would be a surprise if Bale featured at all for Tottenham before the transfer deadline.

He finds himself stuck, unable to play or even to speak in public. It is an unedifying part of such situations that the player tends to feel the need to keep schtum, so as not to alienate the fans and sour his time at the club. Anybody, though, that still doubts Bale's desire to leave should consider this: if the daily reports about what he wanted to do were untrue, then either he or, more likely, Tottenham would have moved to set the record straight. Like many Premier League clubs, Tottenham are rarely slow to deny anything that they claim is wrong. They have said nothing.

And so the posturing goes on. Pérez, having gone in strong, is now doing the thing where he acts as though it is all a bit beneath him and he can no longer be bothered. He said last Thursday that €100m "seems a lot ... for anything." [Subtext: I'm not going any higher, Daniel.]

It has to be added that Levy usually drives his negotiating opponent from the table at some point, in a state of anger, exasperation and/or bewilderment. "To Levy, every pound's a prisoner," said Jamie Redknapp, the former Tottenham midfielder. This is, therefore, one hell of a hostage situation.

Villas-Boas has insisted that the affair has not distracted his players but he was tense as he predicted a frenetic round of trading in the final week of the window and the associated struggle to start the season with a settled team. There was a marked transition to his squad last summer, with a lot of the signings coming late and it was perhaps no coincidence that the club stuttered at the outset, losing once and drawing twice in the league. How they would come to rue the dropped points in the final analysis.

"This last week in the transfer window can be surprising," Villas-Boas said after the 1-1 home draw against Espanyol. "We still have lots of things to do. There will be more players to arrive; there will be more players that are going to leave so, at this time, we are still a team in prospect."

Villas-Boas released William Gallas upon the expiry of his contract but the decision to part with another central defender, Steven Caulker, came as a shock. He had been advanced, in various quarters last season, as the future of the club but Tottenham agreed his £9m sale to Cardiff City in what felt like the blink of an eye.

Caulker, desperate for regular football, had feared that he would struggle behind Younès Kaboul, Jan Vertonghen and Michael Dawson in the White Hart Lane pecking order. Zeki Fryers, who arrived in January from Standard Liège, has stepped up from the development squad to feature at centre-half during pre-season.

Villas-Boas has moved on the forward Clint Dempsey to the Seattle Sounders for £6m, only a year after he joined from Fulham for a similar fee while he has trimmed in midfield, selling Tom Huddlestone to Hull City for £5m and loaning Jake Livermore, also to Hull. Scott Parker is likely to be the next to leave, with Fulham and Queens Park Rangers tracking him. It will be interesting to see whether the 21-year-old Tom Carroll is granted an opportunity in midfield, having shown his technique and composure in flashes last season.

Villas-Boas would like an upgrade at left-back, where Benoît Assou-Ekotto has been overlooked in pre-season – Danny Rose is in possession of the shirt – and there has been the usual transfer talk over Jermain Defoe, despite his love of all things Tottenham and preference to stay. With Soldado set to lead the line, Defoe and Adebayor may wonder whether they will enjoy sufficient minutes. Adebayor, though, is battling to come to terms with the death of his brother. His professional life has been placed into context.

Villas-Boas has reasons for optimism. He has arguably the league's best goalkeeper in Hugo Lloris; Kaboul and the midfielder Sandro are feeling their way back to fitness after long-term injuries; the signings thus far have been exciting and the likes of Moussa Dembélé, Gylfi Sigurdsson and Lewis Holtby will surely improve in their second seasons at the club. Holtby must first overcome a knee problem that has ruined his pre-season.

The coming two and a half weeks are likely to be intense. Tottenham will chase the stars, with exotic names like Willian of Anzhi Makhachkala, Roma's Erik Lamela and the 17-year-old Dynamo Zagreb midfield prodigy Alen Halilovic on the agenda. At the top of it, however, will be Bale.

Ce-l asteapta pe Bale cand isi va asterne semnatura pe hartie.

Being put on pedestal will test Gareth Bale as he explores new horizon The Times Matt Dickinson

Welshman is not an obvious candidate for the frenzy of Real Madrid, but his simple view of life could be his salvation

So when the biggest transfer in the history of football is finally confirmed at an expected €99 million (about £85 million), and early next week is the schedule for his arrival from Tottenham Hotspur, what is Gareth Bale in for? David Beckham could tell him.

He can let him know about the manic convoy that will follow him to the Bernabéu as soon as he sets foot in Madrid, requiring six police outriders to hold off the pursuing paparazzi. “Like a scene out of The French Connection,” Beckham said.

He can tell him about the oak table in Real Madrid’s offices where Bale will ceremonially scribble his name on a contract worth gazillions while staff flutter around Florentino Pérez, the president.

Then there will be the grand unveiling when, wearing the revered white of Real for the first time, Bale will have to walk out on to a specially erected podium being built in the Bernabéu yesterday and juggle a ball in front of thousands of fans. “It felt a bit lonely out there, to be honest,” Beckham reflected.

There will be a mad frenzy — Marca, the Madrid newspaper, carried nine pages about Bale yesterday morning — but that notion of loneliness is an issue too. There is a new lifestyle to adapt to, family to settle, and we all know what happened in Beckham’s private life when he was isolated.

This is one of the many fascinations of the Bale move, beyond the staggering fee and who will win the first wrestling contest with Cristiano Ronaldo when Real have a 30-yard free kick.

One old acquaintance of Bale’s who has known him since his Southampton days says: “Gareth is one of the last footballers you would expect to move abroad.”

A friend sat next to Bale at a dinner not long ago. He said that it was like being in the company of a teenage boy who has been dragged out by his parents and itches to get home to his PlayStation.

He is described as a straightforward lad, with limited horizons. Maybe that can be to his advantage if all he needs for contentment is to play football and computer games.

Perhaps he can cope with the unsparing glare that will come as the most expensive footballer of all time but, if he is to succeed abroad, he must heed the lessons of the cautionary tale of Michael Owen, who moved to the Bernabéu and, within weeks, was pining to be home with his family, his horses and familiar English comforts.

Small things can make a big difference. Owen spent too long cramped in a hotel suite with his wife and a young child when he should have rented a house. The language and culture remained alien.

In Bale’s case, his ability to settle is complicated by his girlfriend and young daughter spending more time in Wales than his mansion in Chigwell, Essex — the couple supposedly christened themselves Gavin and Stacey after the long-distance TV sweethearts — and Bale mostly sees them on visits back home. His representatives will not say whether they will join him in Spain.

The Spanish media will want to know. Bale will be required to speak far more often than in England, though, as Madrid will discover, this teetotal, uncontroversial footballer has never knowingly said anything worth scribbling down.

He will be asked everything from whether he copied his toe-down technique for free kicks from Ronaldo to whether it is true that he had his ears pinned back.

With his cartoon quiff, Bale will be expected to smile sweetly through it all. There is a brand to be marketed, and probably a similar agreement to Beckham, who would split any new image rights deals 50-50 with Real.

Above all, Bale will be expected to deliver spectacularly in a team still being built under Carlo Ancelotti. The Welshman is expected to take the place of Mesut Özil, forming a trident with Ronaldo and Isco, the £23 million recruit from Málaga, behind Karim Benzema (or Luis Suárez if Real can prise him from Liverpool).

Bale is Real’s retaliation for Barcelona’s signing of Neymar for €57 million, and true to the Pérez habit of extravagant gestures. Bale’s fee will be €99 million according to Marca (Ronaldo moved for €96 million). Daniel Levy, the Spurs chairman, had demanded €120 million.

Real travel to Granada on Monday but the expectation is that Bale will make his debut against Athletic Bilbao in the Bernabéu next Sunday in the No 11 shirt — billed as the eleventh galáctico in the footsteps of Figo, Zidane, Ronaldo, Beckham, Owen, Kaká, Cristiano Ronaldo, Benzema, Özil and Modric.

Given the fee, Bale, 24, must instantly handle comparisons not only with Neymar and Lionel Messi, but also Ronaldo, his own team-mate. The chemistry between the pair will be fascinating.

The Portuguese has endured a turbulent few months at Real, falling out with José Mourinho and feeling unloved by the Real hierarchy, so we wait to see if he embraces his new team-mate. If egos can be set aside, two of the game’s most awesome athletes will be hurtling at defences in tandem.

It is a breathtaking prospect, but the possibility of internal competition is one of many daunting challenges for the son of a school caretaker from Cardiff who is about to become the world’s most expensive footballer in a foreign land at a club that does hype and expectation like no other.

If Bale stops to think about everything about to unfold, it could be terrifying. Perhaps his simple approach to life is just as well.

Corner in a foreign field: notable British players who moved to Spain

Laurie Cunningham (Real Madrid, 1979-83)

The first British player to move to the Bernabéu. He helped Real to win league and cup double in first season. Played in 1981 European Cup final defeat by Liverpool before loan spells with Gijón and Rayo Vallecano. Killed in car crash in Madrid in 1989.

Steve Archibald (Barcelona, 1984-88; Espanyol 1989-90)

The Scotland forward fared well at the Nou Camp, in the early years at least, and played in the 1986 European Cup final, in which Barcelona lost to Steaua Bucharest on penalties.

Gary Lineker (Barcelona, 1986-89)

The striker was signed by Terry Venables, whose successor, Johan Cruyff, played him on the right wing. Lineker was a hit, notably scoring a hat-trick in a 3-2 win over Real Madrid.

Mark Hughes (Barcelona, 1986-87)

After an unsuccessful season, the Welshman was loaned to Bayern Munich for a year.

Steve McManaman (Real Madrid, 1999-2003)

Won two European Cups and two Spanish league titles. The midfielder’s volley against Valencia in 2000 helped him to become the first Englishman to win a European Cup final with a foreign team.

Stan Collymore (Real Oviedo, 2001)

The striker’s stint in Spain was a debacle as he lasted only a month, and three appearances, before announcing his retirement.

David Beckham (Real Madrid, 2003-07)

The England captain maintained his high standards in Spain, where he won the league in 2007, and helped to sell replicas of the famous white shirt.

“I would like to thank everyone at the Club, the Chairman, Board, staff, coaches and players – and most of all the fantastic fans who I hope will understand this amazing career opportunity.

“I am not sure there is ever a good time to leave a club where I felt settled and was playing the best football of my career to date. I know many players talk of their desire to join the club of their boyhood dreams, but I can honestly say, this is my dream come true.

“I am well aware that I would not be at the level I am today were it not for firstly Southampton and then Spurs standing by me during some of the tougher times and affording me the environment and support they have.

“Tottenham will always be in my heart and I’m sure that this season will be a successful one for them. I am now looking forward to the next exciting chapter in my life, playing football for Real Madrid."

The Club can announce that it has reached agreement with Real Madrid for the transfer of Gareth Bale.

Gareth joined from Southampton in May 2007 and during his six years with the Club made 203 appearances, scoring 55 goals

Chairman, Daniel Levy commented, "Gareth was a player we had absolutely no intention of selling as we look to build for the future. He is a player whose career we have fostered and developed and he was only a year into his new four year contract.

"Such has been the attention from Real Madrid and so great is Gareth's desire to join them, that we have taken the view that the player will not be sufficiently committed to our campaign in the current season.

"We have, therefore, with great reluctance, agreed to this sale and do so in the knowledge that we have an exceptionally strong squad to which we have added no fewer than seven top internationals. More importantly, we have an immense team spirit and a dressing room that is hungry for success.

"We wish Gareth all the best in the future and he shall always be welcome at the Lane."

To Bale Out, A Social Analysis:

A game of two halves: Bale, and Spain’s austerity victims The Sunday Times Martin Roberts

Real Madrid’s new signing now earns in a night’s sleep what many of Spain’s 6m unemployed must live on for a year

Last Monday Desiree Pravia, dressed in a smart suit, arrived at an office in Aviles, the northern port city in Spain. Although she is a qualified primary school teacher, the 26-year-old was there to be interviewed for a telemarketing role.

She was desperate for the job. She and her boyfriend, David Velasco, 28, who like her is also unemployed, need the money for food, rent and clothes and to provide for Monica, their 20-month-old daughter.

“The grandparents had to buy her crib and now we’ve fallen back on them to furnish her room. We couldn’t have afforded it ourselves,” she says.

That evening she told Velasco she wasn’t hopeful about the job, which is one of hundreds she has applied for. She suspects it will go to one of the other 6m Spaniards on the dole.

Contrast Pravia’s Monday with the events at Real Madrid’s Bernabeu stadium 300 miles away where Gareth Bale was unveiled as the club’s new signing. The footballer posed along with his girlfriend Emma and Alba, their 11-month-old daughter, before he jetted off again for international duty with Wales in the World Cup qualifiers.

He will be back to play with his new teammates, who include Cristiano Ronaldo and Karim Benzema, as the club strives to win a 10th European Champions League title for which Bale will be on £300,000 a week.

The photocall came after Real Madrid ended weeks of speculation and signed the Welsh winger from Tottenham Hotspur for a record fee of £85.3 m last Sunday, making the 24-year-old the latest in a string of big-name “galactico” transfers to the club.

As the situation of Pravia and Velasco testifies, Bale is about to arrive in a country with chronic unemployment and a persistent economic crisis, where many couples his age have to try to live for a year on what the world’s most expensive football player will earn in his sleep.

Pravia and her boyfriend have to eke out £10,000 a year in unemployment and supplementary benefits to support themselves and their daughter. Bale will be paid that sum every six hours around the clock during the next six years.

“We can just about make ends meet with the help of our families, otherwise we wouldn’t be able to pay things like rent and bills,” Pravia says. The couple make up just one of the 1.8m homes in Spain where everyone of working age is jobless.

Pravia couldn’t find a teaching job in a school and had to work as a waitress instead. She was hit by the government cuts imposed to try to bring Spain’s burgeoning budget deficit within European Union guidelines. Her temporary contract ended months ago.

Velasco, who studied topography, used to be an assistant to people with reduced mobility at the local Asturias airport. Unfortunately, like increasing numbers of Spanish workers, he was made redundant from his temporary job in July, adding to the country’s unemployment rate of 26.3% which is more than double the eurozone average of 12.1%.

http://www.thesundaytimes.co.uk/sto/multimedia/archive/00368/STR0804BALE_368247a.jpg

“I think it is an aberration for those of us who can’t so much as get a job in our chosen profession to see [football] clubs spending these astronomical figures. It’s shameful and far, far more than we can hope to earn in a lifetime,” Pravia says.

“I’m not saying they shouldn’t earn more, but at least they could try to keep the numbers a little more in keeping with reality.”

Pravia lost her last job 13 months ago and her benefits will run out in seven months’ time, although she is optimistic that “something will turn up”.

While she and her partner struggle to buy nappies and pay £380 a month in rent, Bale will have no such worries. Until he finds somewhere more permanent, the Wales international could easily rent a luxury mansion for about £42,000 a month in Madrid’s Piovera district, which lies conveniently between the capital’s airport and the Bernabeu stadium.

Bale and his family might then move to Madrid’s La Moraleja suburb, where a nine-bedroom house with a swimming pool and tennis court can change hands for £12m, which would take him less than a year to earn.

Most young Spaniards cannot dream of buying a house because 56% of under-25s are out of work here, while an estimated 73% of those under 30 cannot afford to rent a place of their own and still live with their parents.

To make matters worse, some 400,000 people have been evicted in Spain for falling behind on their mortgage payments. The collapse of the property boom in 2008 plunged the country into an economic crisis which has had repercussions throughout the eurozone, while a wave of suicides by people about to have their homes repossessed has sparked indignation and protests.

Yet despite widespread ill feeling about the worst economic crisis to hit the country in decades, some 25,000 fans still flocked to the Bernabeu stadium merely to catch sight of Bale last week.

Many already sported Bale souvenir shirts and felt Real had to go one better than its arch-rival Barcelona, which had already signed Neymar, the Brazilian international, for £48m in time for the new season.

“He [Bale] is amazing. The money doesn’t matter. In a line-up with Cristiano and him on the left, we can be unstoppable,” one fan told Marca TV, the sports channel.

Amid all the grim economic headlines, football is one thing that Spain does get right, so it has become a flag-bearer for government efforts to promote a “Spain brand” in a bid to enhance awareness that the country is about far more than the hackneyed stereotypes of sun, sand, bullfighting and flamenco.

Spain’s national side La Roja is at the top of Fifa’s world football rankings after winning three major tournaments: the European championships in 2008, the World Cup in 2010 and the European championships again last year. Spain is also bidding for the 2020 Olympics.

One unhappy footnote to the Bale signing is the report that Martin Rhys-Jones, his girlfriend’s father, is on remand in an American prison. He is accused of running a telemarketing scheme from Barcelona that conned victims into buying shares that were almost worthless.

A Spanish government survey, released on the same day that Bale appeared in Madrid, showed that after unemployment Spaniards considered corruption and fraud to be the country’s biggest problem.

Johnny D
24th September 2013, 22:56
N-are decat, oricine rade de o asa evidenta, rande de el insusi in primul rand!:))

Sper doar AVB sa nu faca ce ce-a facut Mancini daca Chiriches va dovedi asa cum a facut-o Panitilimon in aceste cupe, ca are o mare valoare si siguranta in defensiva!
Mancini i le-a taiat fortat, ce gunoi de om!:jerk: Sper Chiriches daca va demonstra ca are valoare in EL si in aceste cupe, sa fie trimis titular si-n campionat!

Chiriches e varza. Deocamdata. Sper.
N-am vazut meciul, mi-am exprimat doar o parere ipotetica.

dintre nou veniti pana acum, Eriksen si Paulinho foarte buni.
Capoue mi-a placut cat a jucat.

COYS!

Vlad Chiriches was delighted after his Spurs debut ended with a comfortable victory over Premier League rivals Aston Villa in the Capital One Cup on Tuesday evening.

The defender, signed in the summer from Steaua Bucharest, started at centre-half alongside Jan Vertonghen in the Third Round tie, and played his part as we kept our eighth clean sheet of the season in a 4-0 win.

And the Romanian international says he aims to build on his first outing as each game comes along.

“It was a great performance from the team and another clean sheet, a nice victory,” said Vlad afterwards.

“For myself, it was okay. I have to get better game by game but the performance of the team was very good.

“It’s a great feeling, I tried to defend well and make a good performance for the team.”

We’ll discover our opponents for the Fourth Round in tonight’s draw, which takes place after the Manchester United v Liverpool fixture.

Nu-i nimic adevarat. "We have a great squad and we owe them a Head Coach who will bring out the best in them and allow them to flourish and enjoy a strong, exciting finish to the season.

"We are in the fortunate position of having within our Club a talented coach in Tim Sherwood.

"We believe Tim has both the knowledge and the drive to take the squad forward."

Cunoscut si drept The Toulouse Lautrec of Tottenham Tech, suporter Spurs...

"Paul Trevillion, age: 74, Born: London, started young, drawing for comics like Eagle and TV21 while he was still at school. His work has appeared in most national papers, and has been syndicated worldwide. Famous for Roy of The Rovers, he's also the author of more than 20 books, and has met and drawn countless sporting greats from Pele to Sugar Ray Robinson and Wayne Rooney. He's rated the world's top proponent of "comic art realism". Disney animator Milt Neil said it took "20 Disney drawings to produce the movement Trevillion captures in one".

Other roles: Trevillion's non-art life so far: a stand-up career supporting Norman Wisdom and Bob Monkhouse; a brief record deal; being crowned world speed-kissing champion (25,009 in two hours); meeting and drawing Winston Churchill; devising a spilt-handed putting technique; drawing Evonne Goolagong in the nude for The Sun; inventing sock tags for Don Revie's Leeds team; and dressing up as DJ Bear, the Panda of Peace, in the 1980s, to pacify hooligans and spread love in the game. As a result he has no nasal bone".

Din pacate, Adam ne-a mai pus un jucator in pioneze, nu-mi place piuneze, pe Paulinho, de care avem mare nevoie in jocul urmator cu MU. COYS!

Am pariat eu Tottenham da golu 2 pe ceva tichet, daca-mi iese si tenisul pe restul tichetelor o sa-l postez pe forum maine!;)

in pioneze, nu-mi place piuneze

Corect! Cum mie nu-mi place "visuri", parca ai zice "virusuri" in plm, cand "vise" suna mult mai adevarat.
La fel nu-mi place termenul "bare", parca ai zice "nare" in loc de "nări", termenul corect ar trebui sa fie "bări", suna mult mai placut la ureche.

Multam, JD.

Club tops Sport Social Media Index

The Club has topped the Sport Social Media Index - the first-ever index ranking British professional football, rugby and cricket teams according to social media performance.

The Sport Social Media Index is a league table of 148 British professional football (English Premier League, Championship, Leagues One and Two; plus the SPL) rugby (Super League and Premiership) and cricket (County Championship Divisions One and Two) teams, ranked according to the best use of social media by their official club channels.

To be published annually, The Sport Social Media Index, produced by PR and social media agency Umpf with partners William Hill, was four months in the making.

The table is compiled by measuring the performance of each team based not just on an algorithm, but research from a team of nine people who looked at eight social networks, as well as a panel of four judges who presided over the results.

It includes an overall table of 148 teams ranked first to last, plus nine additional tables showing rankings based on each sporting league.

We were named the leading professional team in the inaugural Sport Social Media Index with a score of 69.9 out of 100, more than two points ahead of second-placed Chelsea (67.6) and almost three points ahead of Leyton Orient in third (67).

According to the judges, we generated a strong data score with excellent levels of community engagement, offering a great breadth of social media channels.

Michael Sheehan, Social Media Customer Experience Manager at William Hill, said: “Tottenham deserved to be crowned this year’s winners as they have truly mastered the art of engaging with their fans on multiple platforms. Their content is fresh, engaging and resonates well with their supporters."

cand jucam in 4-2-3-1 se zicea ca Soldado da randament mai bun cand mai are un atacant langa el.
a plecat AVB si jucam 4-4-2. Soldado??????!!!!!! in timpul asta Ade a dat ceva goluri si joaca bine.

miril

COYS!

Jermain Defoe moves to MLS - Toronto FC

Club agrees Advertising and Marketing Rights deal with Maple Leaf Sports & Entertainment (MLSE)

http://www.tottenhamhotspur.com/uploadedImages/Shared_Assets/Images/News_images/SEASON_13-14/Players_-_1st_team/Jermain_Defoe/JD%20730.jpg?n=7395&targetTypeID=HighResNewsImage

Third game of Pre Season Tour announced against Toronto FC – July 23, 2014

We have reached agreement with Toronto FC for the transfer of Jermain Defoe to the MLS side, with effect from February 28, 2014.

The 31 year-old striker first joined in February 2004 from West Ham, making 177 appearances and scoring 64 goals before leaving to join Portsmouth in January 2008. The England international was re-signed a year later and has since made 185 appearances, scoring 78 goals.

"Everybody knows how much this Club means to me and I will play my heart out for the team and the fans until my last kick for the Club. I have had a fantastic time here and the fans have always been amazing to me," said Jermain.

"I am grateful for the opportunity for myself and my family to experience living overseas and for me to play in the MLS with a contract that will take me to the age of 35. I have no doubt I shall be coming back as a fan supporting the team in the years to come too."

Head Coach Tim Sherwood added: "This is a great opportunity for Jermain and he feels it is one that he wishes to pursue. He has played a big part in the Club for many years and we all know he will give his best until his last minute in a Spurs shirt.

"We have several attacking options within our squad for the remaining dozen or so games of the season after Jermain departs and we shall keep our options under review. We also have a goal threat from players in other areas of the pitch including having wide players and attacking midfielders who will enable us to vary our shape when required."

Everybody at the Club wishes Jermain every success for the future and he will always be welcome at the Lane.

The transfer of Jermain to Toronto FC also sees the start of an Advertising Rights Agreement with club owners Maple Leaf Sports & Entertainment Ltd. which includes promotional, branding, experiential activities, advertising, broadcasting, social media and digital rights across the 4-year agreement and at all MLSE properties and media sites. MLSE will stock, promote and sell official THFC merchandise at all their retail outlets and support the THFC Official Canadian Supporter's Club.

Additionally, the Club can also announce that we shall play Toronto FC in the second game of our 2014 summer tour on July 23, in-between fixtures against Seattle Sounders on July 19 and Chicago Fire on July 26.
