Gracias a un gol del argentino David Distéfano (m.24), un doblete de su compatriota Ángel Vildozo (m.27 y m.67) y de Juan Toloza (m.85), el equipo local le hizo una goleada jamás recibida por el Liga de Quito en la Sudamericana. Los goles para el conjunto ecuatoriano fueron marcados por Hernán Barcos (m.35) y Carlos Luna (m.61).
