En la temporada 83-84 el Celta militaba en Segunda y en su plantilla había un solo extranjero, el argentino Bulleri. Desde entonces el club fue abriéndose al mercado internacional, llegando a acumular hasta 18 futbolistas foráneos (99-00). Pero la entrada en la Ley Concursal conllevó un golpe de timón. Ahora apuesta por la cantera, hasta llegar a este a?o sólo con un extranjero: Papadopoulos.
