Nalbandián volvió a ser Rey David para Argentina. Con su último punto en Moscú, ganando a Youzhny por 7-6 (7/5), 6-4 y 6-3, metió a la albiceleste (2-3) en semifinales. Y les hubiera tocado rendir visita a Espa?a, que hubiese tenido una gran oportunidad de meterse otra vez en la final. La Federación Espa?ola, incluso, había ofrecido ya una lista de posibles sedes. Madrid, El Puerto de Santa María, Sevilla y A Coru?a, con un canon de 600.000 euros, iban a pujar por acogerla.
