Simon Greul upset second-seeded Gaston Gaudio of Argentina 6-0, 6-2 Tuesday in the first round of the Lyon Grand Prix. Greul, ranked 79th, won only his 11th match on the ATP pro circuit. The 25-year-old reached the fourth round at the Miami Masters, where he lost to Andy Roddick in three sets. Dirk Norman of Belgium advanced into the second round with a 6-4, 7-5 win over Olivier Patience of France.
