En el primer partido, y tras casi cuatro horas, el chileno Nicolás Massú se impuso al austríaco Jurgen Melzer en cuatro sets por 4-6, 6-4, 6-4 y 6-3, mientras que en el segundo turno, Paul Capdeville se demoró tres horas y media para derrotar a Stefan Koubek por 6-4, 6-4, 3-6, 1-6 y 6-4.
