SUGABABES and STÉPHANE LAMBIEL

The ice will be on fire for the duet starring the Sugababes and ice prince Stéphane Lambiel, the top acts of Art on Ice 2009. The most successful girl group in the new millennium and the two-time world champion guarantee hot performances in Zurich and Lausanne. Art on Ice 2009 also offers more tranquil sounds: the second top billing goes Daniel Powter who will also be in Zurich and Lausanne. Other figure skating stars include Sarah Meier, Shizuka Arakawa and the outstanding pairs Isabelle Delobel & Olivier Schoenfelder, Jamie Salé & David Pelletier and Aljona Savchenko & Robin Szolkowy.

The three Sugababes and showman Stéphane Lambiel are sure to be a truly explosive mix that will get the audience to their feet. The 2008 gala program was already bolder than ever, due in part to the engagement of the Art on Ice Dance Crew by star choreographer Marvin A. Smith, who will again be involved in 2009. And now yet another highlight is going to be thrown into the mix? Oliver Höner, the Artistic Director of Art on Ice: “Yes and no. Art on Ice needs to and must evolve from year to year. In the process we must dare to take some risks without compromising the Art on Ice brand.” So you’re planning a program to attract both younger and older crowds? Höner: “Exactly, a show with louder and softer tones, a show with sex appeal, but with tearjerker moments as well.” Canadian singer and pianist Daniel Powter will lead the mellower part of the show. Oliver Höner is proud that Art on Ice succeeded in getting two world-class music acts like the Sugababes and Powter.

World class on the stage – but also on the ice. Sarah Meier, the two-time European silver medalist, will of course be part of the ensemble, and from Japan comes Olympic winner Shizuka Arakawa. In addition, three outstanding figure skating pairs will be showing off their talents. Representing France are ice dancing world and European winners Isabelle Delobel & Olivier Schoenfelder, from Germany world and European winning pair skaters Aljona Savchenko & Robin Szolkowy and from Canada Jamie Salé & David Pelletier, the Olympic gold medalist in 2002 and the world champion in 2001.

In the past few years Art on Ice has gone on to become the most successful and beautiful ice gala in the world. Over 60,000 spectators saw in the show in 2008. Art on Ice’s formula for success is the harmonic fusion of elite sport and live concert, top performances on the ice as well as on the stage.
