Daisuke Takahashi (高橋 大輔, Takahashi Daisuke), born March 16, 1986 in Kurashiki, Okayama Prefecture, Japan) is a Japanese figure skater. He is the 2002 World Junior Champion, the three-time Japanese National Champion (2006-2008), the 2007 World silver medalist, the 2008 Four Continents Champion and was a member of the 2006 Olympic team. Takahashi is currently ranked first in the world.

Daisuke Takahashi, 2007 World Silver Medalist and 2007 Japanese National Champion, is most remembered for his powerful skating and difficult variations in his spinning positions and footwork sequences. He is one of the few men who performs a layback spin, a difficult move required in the ladies division. Daisuke first started skating at the age of 8 and his figure skating idols included Alexei Yagudin, Evgeni Plushenko and fellow countryman, who is now retired, Takeshi Honda.

Daisuke is currently a student at Kansai University in Japan. His rigorous training schedule takes place in both Osaka, Japan and Simsbury, Conneticut in the US. Some hobbies off the ice include reading, dancing and window shopping. His favorite foods include Chinese meat dumpling and deep-fried chicken. If one was to ever wonder why Daisuke's hair is always so eloquent and unique, that is because his mother is a hairstylist. Before he was born, Daisuke's parents, his father is an architect (just to put it out there), were hoping that he would be a girl since he has 3 older brothers. In contrast to figure skating, his brothers all take karate while Daisuke chose not to because he "hates pain". And that is excactly why he chose figure skating and it's suicidal falls that may happen in practice when attempting insane jumps.

Early Skating
Although clearly mentioned above, Daisuke started the sport of figure skating at the tender age of 8 years old. He first burst into the figure skating circuit in the year of 2002 when he was only 16 years old, winning the gold medal at the 2002 Junior World Championships. Before the Junior World Championships, Daisuke was already competing on the senior level in Japan and had finished 4th in the men's championships that same year.

Pretty soon, Japan began sending Daisuke to top ISU competitions such as the Four Continents, ISU Grand Prix events (senior), and finally the World Championships in 2004. However, the young phenom may have been experiencing too much too soon.

A Moment's Decline
Shifting gears from the junior level to senior may have caused Daisuke's brief decline in performing well during the next two seasons because of its more difficult requirements. There is a definite and clear difference between Junior Men and Senior Men; a more mature outlook upon skating and of course the higher degree of expectations in jumps, spins and footwork sequences. Daisuke had recieved much more intricate programs along with much more intricate jumps to boot. He had planned a quad-triple combination, the highest level of difficulty when referring to jumps, in both his short and long program. A confident and strong looking skater at first glance before his programs, Daisuke clearly showed nerves through his uncontrolled body movements although he showed great charisma.

That same year, Daisuke was sent along with Takeshi Honda to the 2005 World Championships to compete. A very important it was indeed; this was the year in which the placements by the competitors determined the number of spots their country would gain in the 2006 Olympic Winter Games. Unfortunately, during the qualification rounds for Worlds, Daisuke's teammate Takeshi injured his foot and was unable to continue on for the rest of the competition. That left Daisuke to compete on his own and to see what would happen to Japan's fate in the Olympics.

Skating a brilliant short program, Daisuke found himself in 7th place among the heavy gunners and his personal best included a quad-triple combo, huge triple axel and easy triple lutz. However, pressure may have mounted itself on Daisuke and he finished 18 in the free skate and 15 overall. Finishing in the top 15 meant only one spot for Team Japan at the 2006 Olympic Men's Figure Skating competition.

The Return of the Dai
Knowing that the Japanese Federation would be judging upon the results of important competitions prior to their nationals, Daisuke completely transformed into a new skater. His footwork and spins have already been known to the public eyes as amazing, but the confidence and personality he's brought completely elevated his package in skating as a whole. He began competing better and started landing his jumps more consistent in competitions. However, his goal to be the one to earn the one spot for Japan was challenged by the new kid and jumping bean- Nobunari Oda.

Soon the rivalry was sparked between the two on who was going to represent Japan at the 2006 Winter Games. At the Japanese Nationals, much of it was full of surprises and tears. Both had skated excellent although Nobunari had just been announced the clear champion of Japan. However, during a review implemented by the judging panel they noticed a big error on Daisuke's protocol and he earned more points that he was given. This gave Daisuke the edge over Nobunari and the awards ceremony was redone and Nobunari's title was taken away from him. In order to make things a little more "fair", the Japanese Federation decided to give Nobunari the spot at the 2006 Worlds Championships instead of Daisuke competing at both of the prestigous events. Daisuke was to represent Japan at the 2006 Winter Games in this bittersweet moment.

At the most important competition of his life, Daisuke ended up drawing first in the Men's Short Program event. He performed well, landing all his jumps although he seem to hold back a little. He held on to 5th place respectively and went on to compete in the final group. Daisuke seemed to always be choosing unlikable positions and he skated last in his group. Appearing nervous, Daisuke finished 9th in the free skate but 8th overall. He had returned but the nerves may have prevented him from being able to perform what he is capable of doing.

Shining Star
Wanting to improve and become the best he could be, Daisuke turned to Nikolai Morozov in training him to become consistent in his programs. It was evident that Nikolai has been a huge part in Daisuke's improvement because the competitions leading up to 2007 World Championships, Daisuke had never missed a jump in his short programs and he had been landing his quad toe consistently in his long.

Being known as the one after the Olympics of "not being able to do it when it counts", that statement was trashed after he had the skate of his lifetime in his home country. Proving to the audience and spectators around the world that he is a force to be reckon with. His tentative program was forgotten as he rose to the occasion in landing all his jumps of good quality and performing to his greatest. His footwork would have to be the most touching part as it was clearly seen that he had put his all into it.

Although finishing first in the long but second overall, Daisuke will always be known as the skater would had turned around his life through himself and his will. His elegant skating was not achieved in one day, it was long process that included difficult obstacles of falling and even having upset feelings. Daisuke represents what a true champion is.

Closing
Daisuke obviously has goals of becoming World and Olympic champion in the long run, but Daisuke is obviously one that thinks about the present and someone who lives and enjoy in the moment. With kindness, a positive attitude and humility, many great things have yet to come.

Although it didn't end the way he had hoped, Japan's Daisuke Takahashi had a successful season despite his fourth place finish at the World Figure Skating Championships in Göteborg, Sweden, last week.

Takahashi became the top favorite contender for Worlds after winning the Four Continents Championships in February. The 2008 Grand Prix Final silver medalist posted a massive World record score of 264.11 points, besting Evgeni Plushenko's 2006 Olympic gold medal score of 258.33 points. He skated brilliantly in both the short and free program.

"I landed two quads for the first time in an ISU competition," said Takahashi. "That's a big improvement for me. The spins, the steps, the jumps... everything went so smoothly and I felt comfortable on the ice."

Spectators and judges alike were impressed by his confident, high quality performances. The short program to a hip-hop version of Swan Lake quickly became a hit with audiences all over the world. This innovative program was indeed something special. Takahashi felt the music with each fiber of his body and wasn't afraid of interpreting it in an expressive, outgoing manner. He truly danced on the ice and that is what he loves the most about the program.

However, when coach and choreographer Nikolai Morozov first presented him with the idea, the athlete wasn't convinced right away. "I actually didn't like it and Nikolai practically to force me to do it," the 22-year-old admitted. He took Hip-Hop dance lessons in New York for three months, and then the program grew on him. People fell in love with his short at Skate America, his first Grand Prix event, and eventually Takahashi was pleased that he had overcome his dislike of the idea. His long program to Peter Tchaikovsky's Romeo and Juliet was less innovative, but when skated well as at Four Continents, it was a dynamic and powerful routine.

Worlds was Takahashi's competition to loose as all his main competitors had shown weakness during the season: Brian Joubert of France was recovering from illness, Switzerland's Stéphane Lambiel was unpredictable as always, USA's Johnny Weir had started strongly in the Grand Prix but then seemed to tire at the Grand Prix Final, Tomas Verner of the Czech Republic could be top or flop, and nobody believed in Canada's Jeffrey Buttle as he usually skated well in the short only to falter in the free. USA's Evan Lysacek didn't even come to Worlds as he withdrew citing injury.

As we all know, the result was rather unexpected when Buttle proved all naysayers wrong and won, Joubert came back strong from a faulty short program, and Weir was more consistent than in the past. Verner bombed in the free and Lambiel's performances were lackluster. And Takahashi? "I don't feel pressure," he said before the competition started. "Actually, I like to be the favorite."

The Japanese arrived on Saturday with Morozov and Miki Ando. The Men's event began on the following Friday. The week prior to Worlds, they had trained in the Netherlands. On Sunday, March 16, Takahashi celebrated his 22nd birthday in Sweden, but he postponed all parties until after the competition and practiced as usual. In the end, however, the Japanese didn't make the podium.

Takahashi was ranked third in the short after stumbling on a triple Axel. In the long, he nailed his opening quadruple toeloop, but then underrotated and fell on the second quad and later stumbled out of his second triple Axel. His worst mistake came when he did a triple Lutz-double toeloop combination towards the end. As he had already repeated the quad and the Axel (they counted as "plus sequence") and did a triple flip-triple toe combination, the Lutz-toeloop was considered his fourth combination and received no value.

In hindsight, had Takahashi executed a solo triple Lutz instead of the combination, he would have had the bronze medal. The difference to Weir was only 1.73 points. What happened? "I think I was too nervous after all," Takahashi later confessed. "I have to study the rules better. This mistake I regret the most. I would have won in the Grand Prix Final if I had done a double toe more or a triple Salchow (he had doubled). So I thought I'd need another combination."

In this case, it was the wrong decision. "I have to…", his English failed him, he put his hand on his heart, and switched to Japanese. "I need to become stronger inside," the interpreter translated.

As a matter of fact, Takahashi has become a lot stronger over the past years. Skating fans have known the lively skater since 2002 when he became World Junior Champion. He was regarded as a great talent ever since, but it took a while until the Japanese was able to control his nerves better and had success in the senior ranks. After medalling at the 2005 Four Continent Championships and the 2005-06 Grand Prix Final, he celebrated his breakthrough at the 2007 World Championships in Japan where he won silver. A major feat considering he had placed 11th and 15th in 2004 and 2005, respectively. He was 8th at the 2006 Olympic Winter Games.

"Dai", his hairstyle wild, speeds over the ice, full of energy and completely engulfed by what he is doing. Even the exhibition practice is a working unit for Takahashi, but it's a work he loves to do. Skating was fun for him when he started. His parents took him, the youngest of four sons, to the ice rink when he was eight. "I just enjoyed it and I didn't have any ambitions in the sport. My parents wanted me to practice sports, but I didn't really want it. They suggested skating as there was an ice rink nearby where we lived."

Once Takahashi began, he liked skating immediately and never stopped. He felt most of all inspired by dancers when he was younger. "I liked Grishuk and Platov and Anissina and Peizerat," he said. "My other idols were Brian Boitano and Scott Hamilton, but I preferred ice dancing." However, he didn't think of going into dance himself. There is no tradition of this discipline in Japan and with his 1.65 meters he simply would be too short. However, his love for dance lives on in his expressive programs and the way he moves over the ice.

It's probably not a coincidence that Takahashi is training with Nikolai Morozov (in Hackensack, New Jersey), who was a competitive ice dancer before he started coaching. Takahashi is also working with his long-time coach Utako Nagamitsu in Japan, and is traveling back and forth between the USA and Japan each month. In his home country, he trains at the Kansai University of Osaka which has a special ice rink for elite skaters.

Daisuke, whose name is pronounced [Dai-ske], is also studying sports history and sports psychology at the university. When he is in Hackensack, the athlete trains together not only with Miki Ando, but also with the new World Junior Champion, American Adam Rippon, and Japan-born Daisuke (Dice) Murakami. The boys get along well and are cooking together. "I'm cooking spaghetti and curry," Takahashi revealed. "When I'm in the USA, it's just for skating. I love Japan and I'm missing the Japanese lifestyle and my friends when I'm in the USA. At least I'm living now near New York, near Manhattan, and it's more interesting as it was before," he explained.

No wonder, as the Japanese Champion thrives on city life, he likes to go shopping ("clothes most of all"), to meet his friends, and to go to karaoke. When he first came to the USA for training, the athlete didn't speak much English, but he still had no major problems of communicating with Morozov as many figure skating terms are the same in Japanese and English. "Nikolai was scolding me a lot in the beginning and I was a little afraid," Takahashi laughed as he remembered the past. "I did stupid mistakes like falling in the footwork and in the warm-up, and the coach didn't appreciate that."

By now, the skater had become much more consistent as he proved during the past two seasons. He hit two quad toes for the first time in one program when he won 2008 Japanese Nationals.

As much as Takahashi liked his Hip Hop program, he intends to do two new programs for next season. "I always want to change," he explained. "I want to be different each time and I want to develop. What I love most about skating is to draw attention. Figure skating is the only sport where all spectators are watching just the one person on the ice. That is a very individual feeling. In all other sports, there are always two or more people on the field of play. Figure skating is athletic, but it's also artistic and it has music. I like this whole package."

When asked about what he doesn't like, Takahashi at first didn't know how to answer. "Probably the spins," he said finally. "I never liked them, but it's better now." He views himself as "not so strong mentally, but competitive". After he won silver at Worlds last year, the gold was his big goal for this year, but he missed it. Now there is next season to come and then, of course, the big goal. "My long term goal is to win the gold medal at the Olympic Games in Vancouver."

Right after Worlds, Takahashi was scheduled to perform in some shows and in the Japan Open. Then he is looking forward to a vacation in Japan before going back to work to put together two new programs for next season. Asked what he would take to an isolated island he laughed. "Actually, I wouldn't want to take anything, because I'd want to use the situation there to grow stronger. Maybe I wouldn't manage, but I'd try in any case," he answered, true to his fighting spirit. He is always ready to risk something and he never is afraid of failure.

Cam asa e, Rocsana:P Si mai anul trecut ma enerva rau de tot :D

Spectators and judges alike were impressed by his confident, high quality performances. The short program to a hip-hop version of Swan Lake quickly became a hit with audiences all over the world. This innovative program was indeed something special. Takahashi felt the music with each fiber of his body and wasn't afraid of interpreting it in an expressive, outgoing manner. He truly danced on the ice and that is what he loves the most about the program.

Switzerland's Stéphane Lambiel was unpredictable as always

2006/2007 ISU Grand Prix Final - Day 2 Press Conference Quotes (Men)
While Daisuke Takahashi had to leave early, Nobunari Oda entertained the media with attempts to speak Russian.
Men

Before the press conference started, the Master of Ceremonies (MC) announced that, due to illness, Daisuke Takahashi would not be staying long. When Takahashi took his seat, he did indeed look very pale.

Daisuke Takahashi (JPN), 2nd Place

Q: Can you evaluate your performance here today for us?
A: I hadn't been feeling very well for the last two days. Since practice this morning I really wasn't myself and during the six minute warm-up I began to feel sick. While I was skating, I thought about giving up, but somehow I was able to continue. I was able to land all my jumps in the first half of the programme, but I'm disappointed that I wasn't able to do the same in the second half.

Takahashi then excuses himself from the press conference to a round of applause from the assembled media.

Nobunari Oda (JPN), 3rd Place

Q: Can you evaluate your performance here today for us?
A: Yesterday was the first time I have skated badly in a long while and unfortunately, I wasn't able to come and have fun with all of you at the press conference. I think my performance today was much better compared to yesterday's Short Programme (SP). I think I was too relaxed yesterday and I think being be a bit nervous today helped me.

Q: This question was asked at the Ladies press conference yesterday, but I was wondering why do you think that Japanese and Asian skaters are doing so well at the moment?
A: Japan has a tradition of producing wonderful figure skaters and I think that has stimulated a lot of the current generators. I think that Japanese people are very serious, if I do say so myself (Laughs), and are hard-working. I think that may be the reason why you are seeing all of these talented skaters right now.

Q (from a Japanese journalist): Since you are studying Russian at the moment, could you say a few words in Russian for everybody here?
A: (Laughs) §Á §å§é§å §â§å§ã§ã§Ü§Ú§Û §ñ§Ù§í§Ü. (I am studying Russian)

The local media burst into applause.

Afterwards, Oda was interviewed by a Russian radio station.

Q: Congratulations on 3rd place. Why are you learning Russian?
A: Because there are so many great Russian figure skaters. There are also some famous coaches in Russia and I thought I would need it for the future.

Q: Which coaches in particular?
A: Tatiana Tarasova, etc.

Q: Who is coach at the moment?
A: My mother.

Q: Isn't it difficult having your mother as a coach? What kind of a relationship do you have with her as a coach?
A: It's hard. Because we are so close things can get very emotional.

Q: What about at home?
A: I often get scolded.

Q: You said before that Japanese skaters practice diligently. Do you think that if you train for long enough, you can become a world class skater?
A: Yes, you can. Da, da!

Q: Have you had some time to do sightseeing in St. Petersburg?
A: Yes. I went to the Hermitage.

Q: Thank you for taking the time to talk to us.
A: Spasibo!

Takahashi Daisuke held a conference and announced he split up with Morozov
http://www.yomiuri.co.jp/sports/news...OYT1T00484.htm

In English:

Figure skater Daisuke Takahashi, also a grad student at Kansai University, attended a press conference held at Shin-Yokohama Skating Center on May 6th, announcing that he would leave Mr. Nicolai Morozov.

After the World Championships in March where he finished 4th Takahashi heard Morozov would be coaching Nobunari Oda, also a Kansai Univ student, starting from the next season. A week ago Takahashi decided and told Morozov(*1) that he would not be able to work together with Morozov any more. Asked why he made this decision, he explained that Oda is one of his chief rivals and thus he would not feel comfortable sharing the same coach. Since Morozov has also been his choreographer, he will be searching for a new choreographer as he continues to train at the university rink

The beginning of the end pt Daisuke?

Don't you think? it seems that becomes direction of continuance! Simply, with the conditionality certain it is like, but…
So, it is delightful truly, is!
Feeling of everyone was transmitted, it is with the shank. If you say that the impossibility became possible, perhaps, exaggerated is, but if you do not abandon, you realized that what can be caused.Because so, this had one one feeling of everyone, with the shank.

Un interviu de la 4CC(sursa -Daisuke Takahashi Fan Forum):

Q1) In men single event, you won with world recording in total score 264.41.
- Thank you. (Smile radiantly) Korean fan’s cheering helped me a lot.

Q2) This season’s short program is getting so much good reaction. There’s many fans open their eyes after watching your short program. It seems Swan Lake hip-hop version gives a good influence.
- It’s also my pleasure that many fans enjoy it. Choreographer Nikolai Morozov takes charge of selecting music. He also chose Swan Lake hip-hop version. I didn’t hate hip-hop, but at first, I thought I dislike doing because of a feeling of unfamiliar. However I decided to believe and follow my coach. I hadn’t ever thought it gains so much good reaction like this as a result at all.

Q3) I heard you went to dance school in New York, USA.
- After deciding my short program, I went to New York and attended hip-hop dance school. A sense of rhythm learned at that time helped me a lot for this choreography. From now on, I’m going to choose the music according to Morozov’s recommend.

Q4) You said you will choose the music according to Morozov’s recommend. I’m wondering what kind of music he will choose after Swan Lake hip-hop version.
- Well, it’s difficult to answer definitely because I can’t know his thinking what kind of music he will select. Like you, I’m in a situation of just watching (laughing)

Q5) There’s much reputation that your figure skating style, and an attitude for the figure skater changed after you met Morozov coach.
- This year, it’s third years after I have been together with him. During this time, it’s true that I changed extremely even in my opinion. Of course my skating ability also developed a lot.

Q6) I want to know concretely what Morozov affected you.
- Before I met Morozov, I didn’t realize for myself why I have to do a skating, what I have to pursue and what I’m lacking. But after I met him, my viewpoint of watching skating is changed. He not only helped me to grow up in skating technical aspect, but also required me to exert myself in presentation and made me get a good result. I can’t skip a mental aspect, either.

Q7) You mean he affected you in mental aspect?
- My former self wasn’t a skater who is full of confidence. Morozov emphasized that it is important to get a confidence for myself. Technique is also important but first of all, it seems he affected me a lot in confidence. He advised me a lot about how much it helps in doing events that believing in myself and a thinking of I’m a best skater.

Q8 ) As well as Miki Ando, you’re satisfied with Morozov’s training. What kind of coach he is?

- He isn’t a style that say ‘Do like this, do like that’. He teaches a skater with a body in order to thinking and practicing for oneself. He gives times so as to a skater could know first what was lacking in last training and fill with oneself. If I idle my time away sometimes, he gets angry at times. Each time I try to reform my mind myself and regain concentration. Now we’re became familiar with each other. Do well times or bad times, the thing that there’s a coach who always looking after me makes feel relieve in many respects.

Q9) You made a world record in this competition. What did you heard from Morozov?
- With ‘You have done fine’, I just heard an advise that ‘Let’s try like this in next competition.’ Morozov teaches me to don’t satisfied with now and look at higher place.

Q10) I heard you learned a combative sport in order to build up mental power.
- (With his eyes wide open) Combative sport? I didn’t learn it. I had never learned or practiced in apart so as to build up mental power. Where did you hear that? (When I told him I heard from Japanese reporters, he swing his hand mischievously) Indeed, I have never done like that at all.

Q11) What kind of image or tempo of music do you like?
- At first, I prefer old music which has very gloomy feelings. But nowadays I became loving bright music, too. I think it would be fight I like all kind of music.

Q12) You’re famous for peculiar costume. I heard you’re superior to fashion sense in daily life, too. How much your opinion is reflected in?
- There’s an expert designer out of Morozov’s acquaintance. He makes my costume. Morozov puts on 5-10 designs given by designer and consults with me, then decides the costume. There’s never case that my opinion is reflecting from the first.

Q13) Your hairstyle is unique the same. Do you also consult it with Morozov?
- According to program’s contents, hairstyle is change, too. Different from other things, T change hairstyle freely. (Utako Nagamitsu said, “For Takahashi, hairstyle is himself. If hairstyle is strange, he doesn’t go out at home.)

Q14) In Japanese media and interview, you said Korean fans’ cheering gave you a moving force that could be better in the play. Please evaluate Korean fans’ cheering.
- Would I express it was extremely intense? I felt (Korea is) immensely passionate country. Though there wasn’t much audience in the arena, the shouting and cheering was so amazing as to have an illusion that exorbitantly abundant audiences are watching. I was surprised but truly, I was glad and thankful. Together, I’m happy that I received a good estimation from judges and was able to recompense to fans’ shouting of encouragement.

Q15) Do you have a plan to participate in ice show or something that held in Korea?
- Of course. I want to meet with Korean fans frequently if I have an opportunity. Korean foods are very delicious. There were no extra times I can travel this time, but I want to visit again Korea in the near time in order to sightseeing. Of course there’s many fans cheering me in Korea and I heard that my fan club has formed. (Hearing the news that fan club was formed) I thought I’ll have to come here again for certain.

Q16) How many have you ever visited Korea this time?
- This is a second times. I visited Korea in 2005 in order to participate in Four Continents also. There were a lot of mountains (When I said that’s Gangneung, he smiled) Ah, it was Gangneung. I remember Gangneung was little far that here (Goyang).

Q17) In a few years, your jump consistency have raised greatly. I think there was something more different training ways or determination than others.
- I felt extremely in convenience by the lack of 2006 Torino Olympics’ result. Over 2 years from then to this year, I exert myself in order to raise my jump consistency. Now I’m almost in step of acquire. Jump is important to success, but it’s also as much important to reduce mistakes. When there rising a critical mind ‘What I have to do well’ and if this consciousness became a target, it seems to change first from the attitude that came into the training.

Q18) Your sit-spin have improved conspicuously.
- I have had a thinking from before that I’m lacking in spins. Even now, speeds slow down at sit-spin sometimes, so I try to beware of it. But I don’t intend to do training just in order to improve special technique. Considering an overall balance and harmony, I concentrate my effort on all of technical training. I think a way of training like this making me get a good result. From this season, the rule became more severe, so I have to do work harder.

Q19) You’re already promoted to world rank by steady quad toeloop. Nevertheless, I’m surprised that I heard you’re practicing a high-difficult quad jump, quad flip.
- It’s over praise. I practice it at off-season at times, but in all respects, there’s no time to split up in quad jump during the season. Of course quad jump is very difficult technique.

Q20) A thing that I can’t exclude out of your strong point is steps. When I see your steps in short program, skates you put on make me feel light like your skates are made of a paper. On the contrary, in your powerful steps, I feel a power like you put on military shoes. I think you have a great pride.
- A pride. I’m not in that extent. There’s many skaters show a wonderful steps. I love steps, but like I said in front, it’s not an extent that feels a pride or self-confidence. I think it’s just my specialty.

Q21) Your nickname is ‘Prince of passionate steps’, aren’t you?
- (Laughing highly for a long time) That’s a nickname which is given by television of their free will. I dislike that nickname personally.

Q22) Then, what’s your favorite nickname?
- I don’t have like that. I don’t need it, either. (Laugh)

Q23) If a skater superb in jump and steps like you, it seems there isn’t a target particularly.
- (Shaking his head and with a firm voice) It’s just recent times I became do well at jumps. From now on, I have to endeavor to do jumps with no mistakes and be able to assure for myself. I want to do like that at any cost. About spins, I have a lot of lacking things as yet. Because of the points aren’t so high. It’s okay but then in practice times, when I get in the field, there’re still remaining some problems.

Q24) In 2005, following Takeshi Honda, you won secondly in Four Continents in Japanese men’s single. From then on, you’ve been acting to represent for Japanese men single. It seems you have too many things on your hand. (Takeshi Honda won at 1999 1st Four continents) [In 2005 Daisuke took 3rd, not 1st.]
- I have no feeling of burden. I’m thinking like it’s glad that I became represent for Japan following a nice senior.

Q25) In Asian figure skating, men single made slow development compare to ladies single. There weren’t many Asian male skater participate in international competitions, either. In the past, you had many international competitions participating alone for Asian male skater. Didn’t you feel lonely or like that then?
- In former times, I felt somewhat like that feeling, like a lonely. I had no confidence at then, either. Nowadays, also in Japan, many potential young skaters are training hard. I think it’s the best thing if they grow up and become a rival with me.

Q26) If your quad set in stability force, it seems your rivals get increase. What do you think?
- First, rather that care about the being of rivals, my target is doing a best performance I can convince myself in World Championships. I took a silver medal last year, so I have a think about wish for put a medal in my neck continually. I’m strained because many skaters will come in various countries including Europe. Especially I have such a jinx to Stephane Lambiel. This time, I’m thinking that I’ll concentrate on my own performance in order to overcome that jinx.

Q27) How is your mind going into the World Championships in Sweden on March?
- Even if it’ll not be an overwhelming gap of scores like in Four Continents, I want to make complete victory which doesn’t lose in both short and free program. A establishment of definite target like that motivate to make me strive for training.

Q28) You’re major in literature in Kansai University. Is there a reason to select a literature for your major?
- Exactly speaking, I’m studying a physical exercise science, not a literature. There’s no special physical science part in Kansai University. It’s including of literature part.

Q29) Like Korea, figure skating is booming lately in Japan. Many junior skaters putting on skate follow the example of you.
- Nice juniors are coming out. I’m in a mind that hoping them to work hard in order to carry on the present po****rity of figure skating.

Q30) To figure skaters, jumps are like a throw coins choose a heaven or hell. I wonder your feeling when success or failed.
- I have an unsatisfied feeling at times when I failed in jumps however, while I’m immersed in the performance at the height, I have no time to feel like be disappoint or be angry with myself. I get to think just about how to continue my performance in order to good result.

Q31) They saying that when you failed at jumps and fall over the ice, you send your eyes to audience. Then if the audience didn’t meet his or hers eyes with you, I heard it makes you sad. Is it true?
- (Laughing for a long time again) No. Who on earth goes on say such a thing. (With a blend smile when I said I also heard from Japanese reporters) During the performance, there’s a time to send my eyes in an appeal point. If audience didn’t take contact eyes then, I’m a bit…

Q32) It means you’re sad.
- (In a quite tone) Yes.

Q33) You’re known for your daily training hours are long.
- I skate three hours in a day. Other training hours like weight training and choreography are about 2-3 hours. It’s important to training how effectively in given times rather than training hours.

Q34) How do you spend your time mostly when you have no training?
- I think it’s the same with other university students. Like going shopping and meeting friends. But I can’t arrange rest hours for long because I have to set in regular training hours.

Q35) I want to hear you about your dream.
- First of all, my target is winning at 2010 Vanquber Winter Olympics. For now, I don’t thinking about anything except for that.

Q36) What is figure skating for you.
- A stage and the object I can express myself best is just a figure skating. Figure skating inculcated me with self-confidence and extended a potential in order to go a various way. I’ll put on skate continually in the future.

http://web.icenetwork.com/news/article.jsp?ymd=20080723&content_id=49632&vkey=ice_news

Takahashi, however, thought differently. He announced his split with Morozov in May and has been training this summer at the Detroit Skating Club, working on new programs with Pasquale Camerlengo.

This is ice network article about Suguri Humie&Oda Nobunari.
Article said he is working with Camerlengo

Camerlengo is a former ice-dancer and is married to Anjelika Krylova, an ex-dancer as well. He's done a LOT choreo, mostly for European and North American ice dancers (Wester/ Barantsev, Delobel/ Schoenfelder, Lefebvre/ Markov, Routhier/ Saucke-Lacelle, Bosley/ Corona, Pechalat/ Bourzat, Kenji Miyamoto / the partner, etc).

He's currently coaching Faiella/ Scali.

It has been some time!

It has been some time. How have you all been?
Thank you who came to PIW, DOI and FOI to cheer me and gave me presents, letters and flowers!
And thank you for emails!

I skated this year's SP at DOI and FOI. How did it look to you?
This music, I told Miyamoto Kenji-san that I would like to try coba-san's music without mentioning the name of it(I forgot the name. lol.) and then what Kenji-sensei brought for me was this "eye"!! I was truly surprised.
It was like "Wow! That's it!!!".
But it didn't sound good at first when we heard it on a rink. We thought about another option "Piano Lesson". When we listened again it wasn't bad so we picked "eye" in the end. The process of its making was really fun!
We two could create it pleasantly arguing over one thing or another.
There appear some steps which must be altered. We will enjoy doing it again arguing over one thing or another. (lol)
In fact I've loooonged to do this music since I heard it for the first time when I was a senior in high school. At age 22, I finally got to it.

Friends was great fun, wasn't it!!!
I was on a lot of times at this FOI. I was fulfil even though I felt like I had no rest from start to finish! The opening was fun and I enjoyed The Phantom of The Opera played by the original Friends (members). I felt great especially at the slsp which I could skated with the music of that time. It was like I hogged all the credit. Shi~chan, I'm sorry & thank you! Love!!(lol)
The finale was the hardest ever in my life. I haven't done such finale for a long time so I was tensed up even at the rehearsals. Shae-Lynn said "Go Daisuke!!!" "Go Kenji!!!". All of them worked dripping with sweat but they looked happy and hustled.
I sort of think I'd like to do such show tunes.
Really enjoyed.
It was so hard when I was in but after it was over I feel lonely.

(picture of FOI)

Hey.
Recently I want to be a tennis player.

(picture of Dai-chan playing tennis)
(picture of sky)

I'm in US now. The hotel has tennis courts and I play tennis almost everyday.(lol)
I'm fairly serious.(lol)
I'm not good at sports which use balls but I like sports which use rackets very much.
Well, especially badminton.
I love it pretty much.

So, I'd like to update soon.

.....maybe,(lol)
Well everybody!!
See you laterrr.

From July 5th, 2008 news, Daisuke participated in "Friends on Ice" at Yokohama, Japan. He performed "eye" choreographed by Kenji Miyamoto who was a Ice Dancer. Daisuke asked Kenji to choreograph the short program by unknown song which was his favorite song from "coba" for 3 or 4 years and Kenji found the song as "eye" what Daisuke's looking for and choreographed.

Daisuke mentioned about SP "eye", "It's very hard to do continuous Straight Line Step and Circular Step, but they are difference type. Please look into my Circular Step which is very sexy and cute for each movements that I think.
About a new Free Skating program, Daisuke will have plan to go to US and his new choreographer will make a Free Skating for him. He will do 2 quads in Free Skating program for getting a gold medal at Worlds. For new season, "I'd like to do 2 quads in FS and 1 quad in SP." he added "I also want to perform new quad. I heard the Sit spins technical points will be so heard to get high level. So I will improve my spins for getting Level 4."
After the split with Nikolai Morozov, he does not make a decision for a new coach yet. Daisuke said "After it turned out, I don't know exactly what things goes on without a coach, but I only know that I'll keep a good shape for Worlds."

I started skating at 8 years old, because a skating rink was built in my neighborhood.

I really wanted to go gymnastics, but the place was far away and it would have been hard to be dropped off and picked up there, so I couldn't do it.
The skating rink Sunpia was about five minutes away from my house, so I went there. When I was little, I practiced jumps there at night with my dad, and it was scary.

National Team Camp starts today!

It’s hot everyday, isn’t it?
I am sensitive to heat, and it lets me down.
I drink too much water and I find my body is swollen every morning.

Well.

I’d like to write about Prince Ice World Fukuoka.
First of all, thank you for people who came to the show down to Fukuoka.
I performed a new program.
(Sorry for people who expected “Eye”. (sweat mark))

What I did was one minute shorter version of long program of this season.
Music is “Ocean wave”, played by piano only.
Mr. Pasquale Camerlengo did choreography this year.
He brought this music and it did not click right away when I heard it first, but the more I listened to it, the more I liked it. Right now I love this music pretty much.

How do you like my performance? Please let me know, those who came to the shows.

I’d like to talk about choreography.
I went to Detroit this time.
Detroit is the place where I trained when I was senior of high school. I had never imagined I came back here again. (LOL)

Well, the rink is not the same and I skated at Detroit Skating Club this time.

I was there for about 2 weeks. I had fun everyday. People at the rink were so great and they were so friendly to me!

Johnathan (Skater) invited me to dance, so I went there with Yuka Sato-san. Style was “Modern Dance”. Being anatomically inflexible, I could not dance it at all (LOL). But I enjoyed it so much!!

Yuka-san took me to play around together pretty much. The longer I stay with her, the more I love her personality! LOL. She is so interesting person!

In the final week of my stay there, there was a skating competition “Skate Detroit”. It was a local competition but scale was pretty big and many skaters and coaches were there.

Michelle Leigh, Jennifer Robinson, Carol Heiss Jenkins, etc.. I met lots of people and that brought back some good memories.

That’s all about off ice things.

As I wrote above, I asked Mr. Pasquale Camerlengo for choreography. During previous visit to US, he made a show number for me. I had very good feeling with it and our feeling clicked, so I decided to ask him this year.

(I asked him a show number previously for try-out)

He is easy to get along with, he always does his best, and I respect him so much. It seems that he likes Japan, and I found he acts like Japanese time to time. (LOL) He is so funny and often told jokes during session. But once he started dancing, I could not stop staring at him for his amorous charm!

Actually, we made 2 long programs.

One of them is Ocean Wave as I mentioned above.
The other one is…

Secret.

I’m not sure which programs I perform this year. I might do both of them. I will try my best to live up to your expectations.

One more thing!

I think these 2 programs will show you different aspects of Daisuke Takahashi.

Well, I'd like to show them so I’ll do my best!

Well, for next 4 days starting today, I will attend National team camp at Chukyo Univ.

I will work hard!

Everybody!
Take care of yourself not to be suffered from the summer heat.

From Daisuke

http://sg.news.yahoo.com/ap/20081104/tsp-fig-takahashi-withdraws-6e81073.html

TOKYO - Japanese figure skater Daisuke Takahashi has pulled out of this week's Cup of China because of a knee injury, the Japan Skating Federation said Tuesday.
Takahashi, the 2007 world silver medalist, injured his right knee in practice on Friday and will be forced to sit out the Nov. 6-9 Cup of China, which would have been his first Grand Prix event of the season.

Takahashi finished eighth at the 2006 Winter Olympics in Turin, Italy. He became the first Japanese man to win a silver medal at the world championships when Tokyo hosted the event in 2007.

The 22-year-old is also scheduled to compete in the Nov. 27-30 NHK Trophy, the sixth event in the Grand Prix series, in Tokyo.

The former world silver medalist sustained the injury while attempting a triple axel in practice at the end of last month and sat out his first Grand Prix event of the season at the Cup of China to have a detailed examination on the knee.

Takahashi was also scheduled to compete in the NHK Trophy, the sixth event in the Grand Prix series, in Tokyo starting Nov. 26 but is expected to be replaced by Yasuharu Nanri.

Takahashi, who is expected to be in medal contention in Vancouver, finished eighth at the 2006 Turin Olympic Games and became the first Japanese man to win a sliver medal at the worlds when Tokyo hosted the 2007 event.

He could only manage fourth place at the worlds in Sweden in March. The injury also means Japan will be without its top men's figure skater at the world championships in Los Angeles in March next year where it will be competing for Olympic berths.

Figure skater Takahashi to miss season with injured knee
Tuesday 18th November, 03:06 AM JST

TOKYO —
Men’s figure skater Daisuke Takahashi will sit out this season in order to undergo surgery on his right knee, several skating sources said Monday. Takahashi, 22, will have an operation to repair ligament damage as well as his right meniscus, forcing him to miss the season prior to the 2010 Winter Olympics in Vancouver.

The former world silver medalist sustained the injury while attempting a triple axel in practice at the end of last month and sat out his first Grand Prix event of the season at the Cup of China to have a detailed examination on the knee. Takahashi was also scheduled to compete in the NHK Trophy, the sixth event in the Grand Prix series, in Tokyo starting Nov 26 but is expected to be replaced by Yasuharu Nanri.

http://sg.news.yahoo.com/ap/20081118/tsp-fig-takahashi-surgery-6e81073.html

I've decided to have surgery," Takahashi wrote. "I will sit out this season and it will take time to return to my best condition. It's very disappointing but just as an athlete needs courage to make progress, he also needs courage to know when to take time off."
Takahashi, Japan's top hope for a medal in men's figure skating at the 2010 Vancouver Olympics, will have an operation to repair ligament damage as well as his right meniscus.

Takahashi injured his right knee in practice last month and sat out the Cup of China.

The 22-year-old finished eighth at the 2006 Turin Olympics. He became the first Japanese man to win a silver medal at the world championships when Tokyo hosted the event in 2007.

Daisuke left the hospital on Dec 24

Daisuke was discharged from hospital in Kyoto city on Dec. 24, revealed a perspective training at full range is to resume on May, next year.
He is going to continue getting rehabilitation by going to hospital, and expects to start skating next Feburary to March,
said "I think I will be able to make the competitions early next season."
Today, he has come to the state of no need for crutches, now he is able to walk by himself.
He spoke his mind with a smile "I'm glad I'm free from hospital. Cheers like "We'll wait for you" from the related persons and fans
encouraged me most" being handed a bouquet from nurses.

Si un interviu :

Q: How do you feel to be discharged from hospital?
D: I'm glad to be out of hospital and be free.

Q: How is your knee going?
D: The rehab is going well. But only one month has passed so what to do from now would be important.

Q: Did you see any competitions this season?
A: I watched competitions of others after a long time. However I felt a bit impatience with the fact that newcomers or upcomers got medals, I can concentrate on skating once again. I feel I just have to do it.

Q: For the future?
A: Only skating, it will be another 3-4 months (after the surgery). The full-training will start after a half year.

Q: You still remain as a cantidate for Worlds.
A: Definitely I won't be able to go. I'm sorry that I won't be able to contribute to gain Olympic spot. I hope them good luck and that they can gain many.

Q: Toward Olympics.
A: Gold medal is my goal. Nothing has changed on that. I want to compete with neutral mind (without thinking) as a challenger or a rookie

He had a transplanting surgery on Nov 26. Generally a(one) tendon is transplanted (on this surgery), but considering a heavy
knee load on landing, he had two tendon transplanted.
For the first time after his injury, he officially appeared in front of the press and explained the reason he had a surgery.
"I will have the least time (to prepare), but I will be able to be recovered until Olympics even if I get the surgey.
I wanted to target medals with my 100% ability." then he expressed his feeling.
"By not having been able to skate, I found it blessing that I could skate ordinarily. Now I really want to skate."

While Oda won his national title in Figure Skating, his rival Takahashi is working hard on rehab. Takahashi injured his right knee while practicing triple axcel at the end of October and underwent surgery. With Vancourver Olympics coming up in 2010, it was a nightmare for the Japanese ace. But on the 24th in front of the press, he said "in a way the injury was a good thing" with a determined expression on his face. There were some changes in his perspectives.

"Please look at this." Takahashi showed his legs before cameras. When compared, the right calf musle is smaller then the left and the right knee had braces. His landing (right) leg's thigh and calf muscles used to be much bigger than the left. "The left leg also got smaller, but this size... the muscles are gone and they look totally different it's almost not like my legs."

However, not all are negative after all. The time at hopital brought some change in his thinking (and feelings).

"Before injury, I was always trying to choose what to do, like, maybe I'd better do this or do that." He was confused and felt lost at times while he was trying to improve everything. But after the injury, "I have just one thing to do (to make a comeback), and feel more focused."

Also, as he watched Mao Asada, Nobunari Oda, Takahiko Kozuka and the likes compete on TV, he felt his passion (wanting to compete) became stronger. "I realized I was blessed to be able to just skate. Now I have this feeling that I really want to skate more."

The operation - which was his first ever in his life - before Olympics was risky. But Takahashi decided to take it calmly. "I would still be able to train in time - though it's not so much time. I need my 100% to win the Olympic title, and I want to be at 100% and shoot for a medal." His knee still hurts when stretched completely or bent deeply, but during his hospitalization he continued on 7 & 1/2 hours of rehab a day.

His full-out training will probably start in May 2009. He said "As a challenger for a medal, I will treasure each competition." He'll continue on his road to Olympic Gold, step by step

Takahashi to resume training: coach

OSAKA (Kyodo) Figure skater Daisuke Takahashi, who had right knee surgery in November, is expected to be back on the ice for basic training in March, his coach, Utako Nagamitsu, said Saturday.

"He's got a chance to rebuild muscles he had for figure skating use only," Nagamitsu said.

Our goal is to compete at the Olympics, so I hope that he regains physical strength without rushing so that he won't get injured again," Nagamitsu added.

I am sorry I haven't updated a message for a long time.

Yesterday, this year, my first skating! Soooo strained.

But I was able to skate better than I had thought, unexpectedly(laugh).

For the time being, I'm going to do on-ice training little by little, not everyday, and usual rehabilitation.

Your letters and messages are giving me energy. Thank you very much.

Daisuke Takahashi resumed the jump training.
At May 23rd (JST)
http://hochi.yomiuri.co.jp/sports/winter/news/20090523-OHT1T00014.htm
It was found at May 22nd that Daisuke Takahashi (23, Kansai Graduate School) who had a surgical operation of right knee in last November and didn't participate in the competition in last season, resumed the jump training from this week.

Takahashi injured the right knee during the training at October 31st last year and had a surgical operation with the injury of the anterior cruciate ligament and the meniscal at November 26th. After leaving hospital in the end of last year, he was applied to the rehabilitation and muscle training and resumed a training on the ice from the beginning of April. According to the person concerned, he seems to be beginning the training of landing from the basic single jump.

After this, he is going to participate to the exhibition which is held in Kansai University at June 14th with Nobunari Oda (22, Kansai University) of his junior in school and other skaters. He aims to return to the competition in this autumn and proceeds with the preparation of the program for Vancouver Olympics which it leaves less than 9 months till the event.

Vancouver, to the dream stage.

Don't run away. Don't rush. Keep the head forward.

Now in Detroit, U.S.A., he is practicing his FP with his choreographer. He will use "La Strada" which was made last year. Italian film director, Fedelico Fellini's masterpiece and its music was composed by Nino Rota. Takahahi is enthusiastically working with the program, in which they increase difficulties of the elements compared to last year. "I will put new expression into it, like I did the hip-hop two years ago. I still feel embarassed, though."

It was last October when he was injured on the landing of 3A. Coming back on the ice was April and he could only do skating (= no jumps. I don't know about spins.) until the biginning of May. But eventually this resulted in giving him more confidence in steps. His hip joint and ankles have got more flexibility by rehab and he can do spins with new positions. He has started jump practice since the middle of May and now he jumps 3-3s and 3As.
He joined Ex-Olympian Takeshi Honda, who has become his jump coach this season, in the U.S. (In fact Takeshi has worked with Dai-chan for years after he retired from competitive skating, though.)

For the silver medalist at 07 Worlds, the road to come back from injury was the days confronting himself. The rehab since last Novenmver after the surgery was harder than he had imagined. From 9am. to 7pm. he had to repeat treadmill exercise. "My mood rose and fell so hard that I wondered 'Am I sick?'." Takahashi said.
He talked cheerfully but at the next moment he completely neglected someone. He got easily angry over little things, though he knew it was bad. He was often disgusted with himself. For two weeks at the end of the last February, he hadn't appeared in the rehab hospital.
"I just hated it. The two weeks was the time for me to realize that goofing off is no good." He once ran away for a night during university. "I thought I have overcome such weakness of mine."

To be continued...

Brian vorbeste despre Daisuke:
http://www.lanouvellerepublique.fr/dossiers/sport/index.php?res=3&spo=Z&num=1369813

Q: You will see old friends like Takahashi returning from injury, Plushenko and Lambiel coming back from their retirement. How do you feel about them? Is there any effects these returns to the competitions?

A: I watched a video of Plushenko on the web. (Ironically) To tell the truth, I hope he keeps his programs, but there's no real transitions and I'm doubtful about his quad. If you can see the video three times, you know what I mean. When we meet him at Tallinn at European Championships, I'm not scared of him. Lamiel? I don't know yet.
Takahashi? It's different for me. Because he is animated by getting a different motivation. It will be harder for me.

Q: And the others?

A:I think Tomas Verner will be the most dangerous competitor for me even if his performance is inconsistent and unstable. But he will fix it until the Bompard.

I found the Q&As at NHK Trophy press interview.
http://sportsnavi.yahoo.co.jp/winter/skate/figure/text/200910010007-spnavi.html

Here are the some of Dai-chan's Q&As.

Q: How would you like to perform this season's program in NHK Trophy?
D: SP is "eye", the program which I skated in an ice show last year but it became a different one after I changed the stepd and the contents. It's very cool. (stylish? fashionable? in Japanese おしゃれ ) For FP I use the music called "La Strada". The program includes various emotions so I'd like to perform differently in each scene. I always want to finish in perfection.

Q: You were plagued by injury last season and will come back in the Olympic year. Aiming for the Olympics, what is the position of NHK Trophy for you?
D: I have very low ISU point and it will effect on the starting order in SP. So I have to get points there. At least I want to win a medal and make a good start in NHK Trophy.

Q: How much have you recovered compared to before injury?
D: I have recovered 100%. The sharpness of my body is better than before. As for step, I acquire speed and scale more day by day. My jumps are becoming stable now and I can land even though I'm tired. I think I'm doing fine.

Q: What is the success rate for a quad so far?
D: Honestly speaking, I can't practice it recently because of the trouble of my skating boots, that happend when I was getting better feeling with it. I'd like to increase the success rate until NHK Trophy.

Q: In NHK Trophy the top contenders will gather. Can you see the distance between you and the world after a year absence?
D: There are skaters who have grown rapidly since last season so I don't know well about the current situation. I'd like to forget about my previous career and fight with the spirit of a challenger or a new man. I just want to concentrate on doing my best without thinking other things.

Q: What would you like to have if god gave you who practiced hard for the Olympic season, a gift?
D: Gold in Olympics. That's all.

Conform declaratiei sale Daisuke va participa la campetitii pana in 2011:

Q: Do you have any plan after Olympic Games? How long are you going to compete?
Daisuke "It depends on my result of Vancouver Winter Olympics, however, I have a plan to compete until Worlds 2011 in Nagano Japan."

Takahashi performed a playful routine to "La Strada" and landed a triple toe, triple Axel-double toe and three more triples. But there were also some errors. He put his hand down on the second Axel, stumbled badly on a downgraded triple Lutz and stepped out of a triple flip. He also had only a Level 1 and 2 on two spins. Takahashi scored 142.62 points and totaled 225.25.
"Today's performance was not so good," the Japanese skater admitted. "But I found out what I have to do from tomorrow. My next competition is the NHK Trophy [in Japan], and I have a lot of homework to do. I need to work on my stamina, I was lacking that today in my spins and steps."

Takahashi seals golden comeback
VANTAA, Finland (Kyodo) Daisuke Takahashi marked his comeback from a lengthy injury layoff with a commanding victory at the Finlandia Trophy on Saturday.

Holding a lead of more than 13 points after Friday's short program, the former world silver medalist placed second in the free skate with 141.02 points, but finished well clear of Russian Sergei Voronov with a winning total of 224.25.

"I won the event but am not really satisfied with the way I skated," said Takahashi, who missed the whole of last season after major surgery to repair torn ligaments in his right knee.

"I showed a lack of power on my steps and spins. Skating in this event was a good way to find out what I need to work on in order to accomplish my goal of winning the gold medal at the (2010 Vancouver) Olympics."

Figure skating: Takahashi keeps Japan's gold hopes alive Feb 16, 2010

Vancouver (AFP) - Daisuke Takahashi boosted Japan's bid for their first medal in Olympic men's figure skating as he virtually tied with titleholder Yevgeny Plushenko and world champion Evan Lysacek in Tuesday's short programme.

Takahashi, the 2007 world silver medallist, is sitting third just 0.60 points behind Russia's Plushenko with American Lysacek a fractional 0.05 ahead of the Japanese skater going into Thursday's free skating final.

"It was my best performance of the season," said Takahashi, who scored 90.25 points after Plushenko topped the leaderboard with 90.85.

"The audience was really good, there were lots of fans and Japanese flags and that really helped. I am glad because I haven't scored so high in a long while."

The 23-year-old claimed his fourth national title in December, underlining his comeback from knee injury which forced him to miss the 2008-2009 season.

"I'm not that much behind Plushenko on points. It is great that I don't feel under pressure going into the free skate," the Japanese added.

Takahashi's score bettered his personal best of 89.95 in competitions sanctioned by the International Skating Union (ISU), although he scored higher points in domestic events.

Nobunari Oda, 22, the runner-up to Lysacek at the Grand Prix Final in December, is within striking distance of the podium as he sits fourth with 84.85 points.

Another Japanese, 20-year-old Takahiko Kozuka, placed eighth with 79.59.

"My biggest task in free skating is to finish without a mistake and keep up the levels of my spins and steps," said Takahashi, who finished eighth on his Olympic debut in Turin in 2006.

Takahashi skated a clean short programme, opening with a triple axel and a triple lutz-triple toeloop combination.

Skating to the music of Eye by Coba, he hit level four in a flying sit spin, a straight line step sequence and change-foot spins. He punched the air at the end to a roaring crowd including Japanese waving scores of red-sun national flags.

Unlike Plushenko, neither the Japanese trio nor Lysacek attempted the high-scoring but technically demanding quadruple jump.

But the Japanese have repeatedly said that a quadruple could help them to the Olympic podium.

"Since the Nagano Olympics so many people are trying the quad jump. I think it's necessary for something like the Olympics," said Takahashi.

"To be successful I think I would like to include the quad jump in my performance. I think it's important for the future of figure skating."

Oda, who won two Grand Prix events in Paris and Beijing this season, said: "I intend to work it in my free programme after seeing how I do it tomorrow."

Kozuka, the 2008 Grand Prix Final runner-up, said: "I have nailed the (quadruple) jump at my will in training every day. I believe my coach (Nobuo Sato) will let me challenge that."

The Japanese men are hoping to emulate the success of their female compatriots in the Olympics.

Shizuka Arakawa won the women's title in Turin to lift Asia's first Olympic figure skating gold medal. In 1992, Midori Ito won the women's silver.

“I was going to retire after these Olympics but I have decided to go on until next year’s world championships in Tokyo,” he told Japanese reporters after taking bronze in Vancouver.

“I haven’t won a world gold championship gold medal so I’ve made that my target,” added the 23-year-old. “I’m not thinking of the next Olympics.”

Q:How are you feeling now?
D: I want to praise myself who won a medal. But I'm not satisfied with my performance so I have mixed feeling of joy and regret.

Q:How did you spend the time last night?
D:After visiting around TV stations, I talked with people from JSF, Takahiko and Coach Nagamitsu. Then I met my friends who came here to root for me and went to bed.

Q:Who do you want to show the medal?
A:I'd like to show it to all the people who have rooted for me and express my hearty thanks. Especially my parents. I haven't talked with them even on the phone. I want to take this medal to my home soon. possible.

Q:ow was the second Olympics?
A:I was near Arakawa-san in the last Olympics and I felt the atomosphere that she enjoyed the Olympics. I thought I would enjoy the Olympics, too. I have practiced to the point that I could say the practice was complete and that's why I could enjoy it.

Q:What do you think about 4 years later?
A:I don't think anything so far. Honestly speaking I had considered to quit after the Olympics. But we have World Championships in Tokyo next year and I definitely want to keep competing unil then. It's nice if I could win a gold.

About the quad, he says, "I'm not thinking of removing the quad at all, even in the future. I've successfully done the quad up until now, and it's natural for an athlete to aim for progress. I haven't won a World Championship yet, so that's another goal of mine." Then the ending narration talks about his journey continuing in order to surpass his past and current self.

Multam fain, Andreea!

un interviu cu Daisuke dupa olimpiada:

- What do you think of the score?

I was rather shocked because the score of FP was so low. I'm dissatisfied with the underrotaion call on 3F-3T. I think I messed the landing but the rotaion was enough. As for "!" on lutz, I couldn't help it. Because I jumped them at the place where they looked like so from the judges. I couldn't put them in other places.

I'm glad to get No.1 PCS in FP. At first I acted intentionally but I just burst my emotion naturally at the end. It was fun. However PCS is wobbly. It varies depending on the audience reaction, my emotion and the performance. TES is important.

- You tried the quad.

I was sure I could have skate perfectly if I hadn't tried it
But it was not my ideal style, to play safe and win a medal. In a big game I want to fight with my maximum ability. I could jump it twice before the injury and when I moved to senior it was the era that there was no chance unless people jumped quads both SP and FP. Probably it affects me strongly.

It would be another story if I were in the level of Plushenko but for us whether to put the quad or not makes big difference in the strain of practice and the pressure before competition. The quad definitely isn't a kind of jump which you can do in any condition. The future of the quad jump depends on skaters. People say it's about the rule but who does it is a skater. While skaters compete with pursuing their own ideal, the quad will become neccesary if all stakers start to do it. But if they don't think it neccesary the quad jumps will decrease.

- You thought of the retirement after this game before.

I thought so until I resumed skating after the injury. My body started to move after Japanese National Championships in Dec. and I started to think "It would be a waste if I quit."

The competition I could enjoyed this season is only once, this olympic games. I think I'm the real thing if I can win in the worlds. To be honest I want to have a rest, but I will go to fight.

Vancouver's tears turn into a smile! Takahashi wins first gold for Japanese men

Says he thinks he only performed about 60-70% here compared to the Olympics, and almost thought of withdrawing since he had so much trouble getting motivated after the Olympics. For next season, he wants to do one quad in the SP and two in the LP. "I had my sights set more on next year's World Championships rather than this year's. This time there were skaters who didn't come and those who were tired from the Olympics. I want to see how well I can perform in a competition where everyone is fully focused. I want to aim for the gold medal next year too."

:ok:

In mai Daisuke va trebui sa faca o operatie pentru a scoate...ce inseamna "bolt" in engleza?

"I wanted to do it after Worlds next year, but if the bolt adheres then it can't be removed. I think I'll recover more quickly if it's removed earlier."

In sezonul urmator isi doreste sa is inbunatateasca quad flip-ul si ar vrea sa incerce diferite stiluri de muzica :
Shae-Lynn Bourne, Kurt Browning, and David Wilson, printre altii.

In urmatorul sezon vrea sa:
to do something that he's never done before for his programs.

In legatura cu 4F: Se gandea daca sa sara 3F or 4F si in ultima clipa s-a decis sa fie 4F pentru ca:
because if he did a triple but then made mistakes on the other jumps he would've regretted it.

A mai fost intrebat daca crede ca in sfarsit si-a transformat "Inima de sticla" intr-una de otel, raspunsul sau a fost ca inca o are de sticla, mai trebuie sa lucreze la increderea in sine.

La intrebarea: ce are de gand sa faca in continuare a spus:
relax and take a long vacation.

Goal for next season: to defend his World title! If he can do that then he'll think he's actually become strong

:cheer: Ganbate kudasai, Daisuke-sama! :cheer:

Alte articole si interviuri dupa Torino 2010

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=mT676kiDMFk

Q: How would you rate your season (out of 100 points)?
Mao said 100 first, and then Daisuke said "Everything ended well, so 100."

Q: How would you rate the exhibition?
Mao: 100!
Daisuke: I was just terrible!
Mao thinks it went pretty well, but Daisuke pointed out a mistake he made after the throw jump. The interviewer asks if they planned to skate together as a pair, and they said that the choreographer told them to do it since they were both going to appear together anyway. Then the guy asks them if they want to try it again sometime, to which Daisuke immediately says "Noooo" but Mao says "Yes!" So then Daisuke is like "Huh? Again?"

Q: Do you normally get along with the person sitting next to you?
Daisuke: Next to me...?
And the interviewer points to Mao, so he says yes. (ROFL, who else do you think is sitting next to you, Daisuke? ) Mao talks about when they trained in Canada together when she was in fourth grade, and says that she still has a lot of fun talking to Daisuke now. Daisuke says he's known Mao since she was little so she's like his little sister, but all of a sudden she grew up without him noticing so that's kind of shocking.

Q: Is there something you're into right now other than skating?
Daisuke: Lately I've been into buying manga. There's a convenience store near my house that sells One Piece figurines, and every time new ones come out I buy them all. So I'm sort of into collecting them.

Q: Do you want to escape from your skating-focused life for awhile? What do you want to do most in your private life right now?
Daisuke: I want to go on a trip without my skates. Anywhere is fine, just someplace where I can relax.

"Go swimming at the beach and take dance lessons."

Daisuke says that when they were at a training camp in Canada together a few years ago (when Mao was really young I think), Mao saw Daisuke practicing and asked, "Why aren't you doing full run-throughs?" (He didn't like to do full run-throughs back then.) And Daisuke replied, "I'd like to, but I don't have enough stamina." For Mao's story, she says, "I think all the skaters know already, but when Dai-chan drinks alcohol he becomes really high-tension."

"Oh, I ended up winning gold!"

In noul sezon vrea sa isi inbunatateasca sariturile cvadruple.

An article in Sanyo Shinbun on 7th. There is no new information though.
http://www.sanyo.oni.co.jp/feature/sports/other/2010/07/07/20100707112332.html

Q:Five months have passed. How have you been?
A:I'm working with getting the next season's programs choreographed while participating in various ice shows around the country. As for the free program, I went to U.S. in the end of May and the base of it was almost completed. The SP is classic music. Mr. Lambiel choreographed it in Switzerland.

Q:What kind of program are they?
A:I won't reveal the details of them until the season starts. I'd like people to see them with an open mind because both of the FP and SP are different from my past programs and have the elements of surprise. I'm especially fond of the FP though the movements are hard. I'm looking forward to seeing how they will be judged in competitions.

Q: I heard you would make another SP.
A: I asked a former world ice dance champion for a choreography and we will make a program soon. I will try both of the two SPs during the season and use the better one in the WC.

Q: The scoring rule will change drastically in the next season. What do you think of it?
A: Regarding jumps, it will benefit for skaters who try quads. From the point of view of the evolution of techniques, it will encourage us to challenge more difficult jumps. Regarding spin and step sequence, the number of the requirements for level4 will increase and it will require us to practice more.

Q: You jumped 2 quads in the FP before you injured in the fall 2008, how about next season?
A: Currently I plan a quad. Considering the possibility to put a quad flip, I'm trying it in ice shows, too.

Q: Please let me hear your determination for the coming WC.
A: The goal is to win second consecutive title. I will go into other competitions, taking them as pass points. I'd like to learn various things in each of them and peak at the season's last big competition.

In this video, he talked about his new programs.

(About Stephane Lambiel's choreography.)
There are many movements which I'm not good at, and installing such movements will expand the range of my performance. The way to use the body during steps and to capture the notes of the music which is different from me.

(About Shae-Lynn Bourne)
Her knees and ankles are very soft. She is good at the lower body movements and I'm not. The ways she captures the notes of the music and generates the atomosphere, are fabulous. She is my favorite performer.

(At the end of the video)
I hope I can show a different aspect of me.
The new season will start again. I'm spending days feeling anxiety and expctation but I will do my best so please support me.

1:00 His speech at the Marusen ceremony.
I can't think of four years later now. But I'd like to work year by year and hope four years will pass unawarely. I'd like to work hard in order to get more confidence year by year, confidence to win the gold in the olympics four years later.

1:23 After the Speech.
I'm a bit nervous so that I might have talked about what I didn't think at all.(laugh)
I think when I get confidence by woking year by year, I will be able to find the goal or what I want to do.
Well, I don't want to think of it, so it's like just to take a look on four years later without thinking.
