Carolina Pislaru competed in the Italian Serie A last weekend. She competed for the team "Ardor Padova" and finished 7th with the team. She competed but did not do very well. VT: 11.95 (4.0) and FX: 10.65 (4.9). Nice that she has competed though, I did not her from her in a long time

http://www.federginnastica.it//materiale//articoli/allegato_4087.pdf

Thank you for sharing! Do you know how old she is? Seems that VT is a strong apparatus for her! Howcome she competed in Italy?!

She was born in 1994, so she is a first year senior. She is originally from Onesti IIRC. She was a member of the national junior team in 2007, but after that disappeared from any results. Some teams in the Italian competition have foreigners in their team. Some Romanians have competed in the Serie A before. But maybe Carolina moved to Italy with her familY? I thought she had retired because I never found her name again in results from nationals etc after 2007. And if Romanians compete in the Italian competition, they are usually from the national team.

O.o WOW that is interesting! I think she might have moved to Italy, that could be a good suggestion! I will do some research on that, but I find it quite odd that she moved when she was so close to being a senior, she must have found it tough! Also, maybe she is doing the same thing Marian or Flavius are doing (they also do gymnastics outside of the country), maybe thats a posibility! Do you have any videos of her?

Thank you very much for that Tessa! She seems like an amazing gymnast! I hope she does well where ever she goes! In the last line it says nominalization for clubs and maybe she just went to Italy for experience?! So who knows what can happen! It would be nice if she came back!:D

Everyone is busy nowadays!:( What can you do? Claudia is injured again...on the same foot as her previous injury so we will have to wait and see what the doctors say! I don't think the Romanians would want to force her because we want to see her for worlds as well! I can't wait for the montreal junior cup!! It is going to be so exciting! Larisa, Diana, Anamaria and Tatiana are going!

Anytime! Unfortunately the federation isn't really interested in such things! The website hasn't been updates in a long time! I think that they expect us to go on sports websites and things like that...

The official website no longer exists. We don't know the reason, it simply disappeared a few months ago.

Multumesc..... thanks for working on the translation of the interview. It's a great interview - it makes Forminte seem like such a fun coach ,maybe the results we all wish for haven't been like Belu but this guy seems like fun... compared to that guy in the Secret of Deva video who was calling the gymnast Toma, a lazy sod. Yes I agree with claud that they should make more interviews and documentaries like this.

Congratulations to the girls from Gymnix but I am curious as to where Beatrice Margarit was. Didn't she compete at this meet?????????

EDIT: opps... It was Tatiana Geampouriu that competed (sorry spelt name wrong).. I was confused over names. Sorry... xoxo

Definately! Forminte does seem like a father, more than Belu and Bitang! I hope he does show this and that he won't give up on the girls! Tatiana was indeed the one who competed! Beatrice is a floor specialist and a beam specialist, but Tatiana is more of a vault and uneven bars specialist (sort of). I hope that both of those girls will make it far in their careers! It was an interesting meet, the girls had some problems with the time zone and everything, and I think that Larisa did actually have a small injury! I do hope she adds the full twist back and her triple twist as well! On floor, apparently, she had a slip and lately, she has had a few problems with that element as I remember reading an article about her at the TopGym2009, and she was having trouble with that in worm-ups....but I hope that she keeps it up and does better at the Europeans:)

Thank you so much for this information! But howcome she is not in Romania?? I was really hopping she could go to at least one meet and maybe have a chance to go to the Europeans! Of course that Dana Andrei is in Romania...she's a member of the national team. She just went to Italy to participate in that competition. Some other girls did this the last year, I don't remember exactly which ones. Many of the boys went to Germany to compete in their national championship and I think they are still going from time to time.

Yes more foreigners compete in the Italian competition. In the French as well. Melissa Scherpenisse from Holland also competed I saw. It is a good experience for them, and a chance to compete in a different environment. I do believe there is a modified code, so I do not know what the scores really mean.

BTW Claire on gymworld said that Corina Ungureanu will also compete this weekend in the dual meet GBR-ROM. She may even try out for the team for Europeans. That would be really cool. I really wonder in what shape she is.

Thank you very much for all the info! I was just scared that the girls would be representing Italy and not Romania, but I think it is indeed a good experience! But I don't understand why the scores are sooo small!

Really?? She will be competing with Romania? I haven't seen Corina in a very long time, but I think it is good and bad news. Good because she is actually taking action and doing something with her life and bad because we need people like Cerasela Patrascu on the team!

I hope that Romania will compete in the UK because it does seem like a good competition! Corina, no doubt, still has a Romanian passport! I would be quite sad if she would be representing the UK, no offense here! Everybody would be shocked if she pulled it off. The main problem with Corina is that she has taken many many years of break! So it is quite hard to come back. We will see what happens...

Buna Friends

Ce mai faci? Sorry friends, I have been so busy with work and teaching my classes and I have to now organize for a convention I am attending in Florida in August a big team from New Zealand who are coming over to compete (dance) at the convention so I have been busier than ever to be on this forum but I promise to make more effort my friends to stay in touch.

Tess: OHHHHH, I LOVE Dana Andrei. Are there any videos that exist of here competing at this competition? I am pleased she went to compete since no one from Romania (seniors) has been competiting recently and I was having withdrawl symptons - although the Juniors have been very busy with competitions which is great experience for these little ones.

Mikkey: I heard about some competition that Romania was in this weekend in the UK and with France???? Is the competition being held next weekend and who is going??

Claud: I like Corina and I am happy she is trying to come back to gymnastics but I think that someone like Cerasela needs to be back competing. If Forminte is not going to use Cerasela in any of the team lineup, I will be very UNHAPPY......

When are the next competition for Juniors?? Good luck to all girls who are competiting.. I hope they do well

Hope to hear from you all soon. Martina - have fun at Cottbus - party like a ROCKSTAR:)

Well there is a schedule of competitions Romania will attend on fangymnastics.com! I agree, good to see Corina back, but we desperately need people like Cerasela! We need UB and VT specialists, and from what I saw of the Russian nationals, Romania is in trouble! Haha I will be angry as well if Cera doesn't go...I know she can do well! Ok...so Cottbus...:) First of all the whole weekend went really well. By now I know the town quite a bit. Our hotel is just across the train station which is very convenient. The tram stops are closeby as well, and the hotel has some great service. They give you cards to use public transport for free during your stay - plus they have free internet! :) There also were some gymnasts staying in our hotel. I know the Polish and Russian teams were there. We actually saw the Russian girls right when we arrived. They are so small. :) We actually saw them again just when we were leaving. We were in the train station and they walked in and went to the drugstore. Maybe they needed something to style up for the banquett. :) They came there with open hair - really cute.
I did not really talk to the athletes specifically this time, but Adela Sajn said hi to me when we met in the the hallway after the competitions on Saturday.

Tess - no unfortunately I won`t be able to go to Europeans both time and money wise....:(
Well I think Solovyeva probably is considered for Europeans. I saw she is listed for the meet in Jesolo, Italy as well which makes me think that they are wanting to test her. In Cottbus she looked good on beam and also bars (she just messed up her dismount in finals). On floor she was short on a lot of her tumbling, but if she would hit it all that would make a good routine as well. I have no idea how her vault is, but I can imagine they would possibly use her for beam.

Tess_AN
20th March 2010, 02:14
Thank you Martina. While Solovyeva competed in Cottbus, the other Russian gymnasts had the National Championship. They look very strong! They easily can make two competitive teams for seniors. And one more junior team even stronger than both seniors'.

That's all because I've been so incredibly busy between kids and work... I hope to come back fully to my passion when they grow up a bit!
And I'll try to attend any gymnastics meet this summer.
Good luck to the Romanian girls today in GB (a special place in my heart for Cerasela, if she makes a successful comeback, she would be one of the very few Romanians who have been able to keep on after such a serious injury, I'm so curious about her dismounts)... I wish I was there of course.
I hope they show upgrades, beautiful and elegant gymnastics and of course I wish for the Romanian past trademark: consistency!

So you've been to Jesolo? How did you find the (Italian) girls?

Btw, I don't know if I asked you, are you planning to go to Rotterdam?

MartinaE

No, I have not been to Jesolo myself, but my friend from Switzerland was there who is a part of Gymnastics United also.
Unfortunately I won`t be able to go to Europeans either. I don`t have enough money to afford this besides the other things I have planned for this year and I used up almost all of my holidays for other stuff to come already as well.

Are you going to Europeans?

BTW Dana Andrei and Carolina Pislaru competed again in the Italian Serie A 1,5 weeks ago. results can be found in the site of the Italian fed (see my last post).

Oh that is awesome you will get to go to Worlds!! I am sure you will have a fantastic time there.

I would love to go to Berlin for Europeans next year. It is only 1,5 train hours away from where I live. So I hope I will be able to go. And of course I would love to meet you if there is any chance! :)

Thank you for the news about Dana and Carolina. I do not understand why Dana Andrei is competing in Italy and why she is not with the team as a possible candidate for Euros...

Regarding Sandra - the news come from http://translate.google.com/translate?js=y&prev=_t&hl=en&ie=UTF-8&layout=1&eotf=1&u=http%3A%2F%2Fsport.hotnews.ro%2Fstiri-alte_sporturi-7082695-interviu-nicolae-forminte-este-posibil-sanda-izbasa-nu-mai-faca-niciodata-gimnastica.htm&sl=ro&tl=en
It looks as an interview with Forminte and I would agree with your translation: "Sandra Izbasa might be retiring"... or maybe ... it is nothing official. It is not said by Sandra. Forminte did not say that Sandra said that... it could be anything.

About Ana Porgras, http://www.prosport.ro/alte-sporturi/gimnastica/ana-strange-din-dinti-5787723 - google translator does a crapy job... so here it is a very short summary:
At the end of last year, immediately after the World Championship in London, Anna suffered an injury to the beam during a workout. A missing element, a nasty fall, which left a few cracked ribs.
Now she is injured again. It is an overstretch ?!? on her leg. It is painful she said. She is wearing a Kinesio a bandage that protects and helps recovery at the same time.
She said she is working at 60% of her potential right now, so at Euro she will have the same routines as she had at Worlds last year.

Thanks Tess. That explains why Ana was not top at the recents friendly matches. Good luck to her at europeans. I also do not understand about Dana Andrei. maybe Forminte thinks she is not yet as good as the others that competed in GBR and FRA but that the competition will be good for her and that is why she competes in Italy? About Sandra: I guess whe have to wait what happens.

There are few things I don’t agree on the current management of WAG Romanian National Team, but I am not in the position to judge Forminte.

I would have liked to see Dana Andrei competing in the team along the others. I would have liked to see/hear all the girls are treated equal and get the attention and support they need and deserve. I would have liked to see new skills and improved routes from last year worlds (except injured cases). I would like to get news about Loredana Sabau. I would have liked to get more news about Romanian from Romanian media. I would have liked to see Romanian competing in Jesolo against Russia, USA and Italy, overall I would have liked to see more competitions for Romanian squad. About Sandra, I would have liked to hear/read an interview where she talked about herself....
I would have liked… too many wishes.

In a positive note, I like Cerasela returns! I hope she will do the Euro team with a DTY and good bars (including a good dismount). Am I asking for too much?

Romanian internationals:
So far for the TV schedule I found:
TVR2 (only for Romanian viewers then, poor of us!) seems to be the only channel broadcasting the event.

Nothing on Friday 9/4
Saturday 10/4 : 15h00 -18h00 (live Romanian time)
Sunday 11/4 : 15h40 - 18h20 (live Romanian time)

Just seen your question MartinaE about the meet I intend to go to during summer. So far no exact idea, I would say any meet in priority with Romanians WAG competing (I think I read somewhere that there would maybe be a meet with Romanians in Holland at the beginning of August). So possibly maybe....? :)
The Youth Olympics would be great but too expensive for me at this point...

Also thank you very much Serena2010 for your birthday wishes.

About Forminte, I can't judge his work with the girls harshly. Even if he's not as successful as B&B (they were anyway very lucky to retire before the changing of code who was disadvantaging the Romanians on bars), one can not deny his achievements (like the 2008 Euro gold and the Olympic bronze).
I think girls made tremendous progress under his leadership on bars (except for Petrovschi and Sofronie, the other routines prior to 2006 were really blah or painful to watch), the girls have now the best choreographed BB routines internationally, artistry seems to be back under the features of girls like Porgras, Voicu, Haidu, Racea, ... His weak points remain vault for me an that the general consistency tradition seems to have taken a step back (though I remember that under Forminte, Romanians have been the most consistent girls during the whole 2008 season just at the moment when it counted).
Also I wonder if under B&B a girl like Cerasela would even have the chance to go on the team (I remember the whole 2002 fiasco with almost all the girls sent back home because of "getting fat and not motivated")
I'm thrilled with Cerasela's return, I hope she can take a big team event this year (and selfishly I wish to see her compete live again at a meet in summer)... but I do think that you're maybe asking for too much at the moment with the DTY and a D dismount on bars Tess! ;)
About Dana Andrei, I'm not worried about her... yet. After all, Anamaria Tamarjan did compete downgraded routines in 2008 at the Italian Serie A too and she ended up being a key member at the Olympics! We don't know anything about Dana yet. Of course, I would have wished to see her compete with the other girls but I don't want to speculate about her status on the team now.

For our foreign friends: it would be nice to ask here for translations or anything else you would like to know and you cannot understand from the main forum (and with link to the main discussion/news/text in Romanian, if possible). This way we keep everything a bit more organized and easy to trace back.

Hi All,

I was on a holiday, so I could not respond. Naoual did not retire, she is injured. Before Europeans she had a leg injury. I think it was a quite severe stress fracture and she needed to wear a cast for 12 weeks if I remember correctly, though that seems quite long. I really hope she will be ready in time for Worlds. She and Celine van Gerner are our most promising gymnasts. And Wyomi Masela should be further on her way back then she was at Euros.

Marrit Ewald and Anne Tritten did retire and Lichelle Wong will not compete for Holland but will only focus on NCAA and her studies at UCLA.
Lisa van den Burg (94) broke her ankle during training camp for Europeans.
I think this is all of the Dutch news.

Cata answered in the Romanian section. I think, there are no news about Loredana Sabau. Regarding Ana T., no one confirmed it, but we think she may be at Deva, because it is "school exams time", I mean, Ana T. finishes High School this year.

In Romania, finishing High School means to pass a set of exams written and oral on some subject matters such as: Math, Literature, one language (English or something else), Social Studies (History) and/or Sciences (Geography or something else).

If you remember, we talked here 2 yrs ago about Steliana coming to Romanian Nationals one day late (missing the team competition) because of these exams. Also there were discussions about Sandra's exams last year.

No video's, but here is my report.

There are some combacks and injuries. To start with the comebacks:

Anneke LŁcke (world team member 1999) competed again! Unfortunately she injured her foot at podiumtraining friday so she could not do floor. But she did vault and was 5th in the final. She did a full tsukahara tucked and a handspring front, but she can do harder vaults. I spoke to her after the competition. She said she always kept contact with her former coach and her coach asked her if she ever thought about coming back. Anneke always said: once I have lost weight. Well she did, she lost 20 kilos, looks absolutely fantastic and is already doing full-inns and other hard stuff. For now she only does floor and vault. For bars she is a bit too tall (1.68) and she said she always hated beam anyway, but you never know.

Suzanne Harmes competes beam and floor after almost a year without competing. She started serious training again in februari. She lacked difficulty (no double sommersaults in floor) but she looks good. She wants to try one more time for worlds in her home country. She withdrew from event finals with a back injury. No idea how bad it is.

Fieke Willems miraculy competed. 3,5 months ago she injured her ankle very severely during training on bars. Her foot was almost completely off her leg. The docters were affraid they had to take her foot off, but because she was in the hospital so quickly after the accident, a surgery could spare her foot. But they were affraid she could never walk again normally, let allone do gymnastics. Fieke, who graduated med school and is a docter herself now, never gave up and the revalidation went surprisingly fast. She could not believe it herself. She started to walk in a swimming pool and each week she could do a little bit more. When she started training again she was affraid for bars (of course) but slowly she learned swinging again. She competed bars at nationals, nailing her routine (though it looked laboured, but who cares?) and qualified for finals. She also competed vault (easy ones). I only could have respect for her. She did not want to leave gymnastics with an injury. Nationals were probably her last competition. If she will be selected for the pre selection for worlds she will continue, but I doubt she will be selected. She said her bars routine at nationals was otherwise a nice good bye.

TessaW
22nd June 2010, 19:41
Lieke Wevers has been injured all year. No idea how bad it is. Sanne Wevers was also injured but I think she did not compete out of precaution. She is already in de pre selection for worlds so she did not have to take the risk. Noaual Ouazzani is still injured. Her cast should be off by now, but I have no idea how she is doing. Lisa van den Burg (EYOF team last year) had a broken ankle but has recently got the green light to train again (and she graduated for high school!)

Then the good news:

Mayra Kroonen was fantastic. She nailed every routine in the AA. Vault was sky-high (front fike and 1/1 yourchenko). Bars was good. yeager, gienger, 1,5 somi off. On beam she rocked her layout! The rest was also nice, but I hope she can upgrade her 1,5 twist dismount. Floor she watered down because she was very tired. She had exams for her university after the world cups she did and did not train that much because of it. I hate her music (with very high vocals) but that is a question of taste of course.
IN EF Mayra won another 3 titles: VT, UB and BB (tie with Marlies Rijken) and took silver on floor.

Second was Wyomi Masela, who trew away her chance to win in the last round because of a fall from beam. She is upgrading again. Did the 1,5 yourchenko for the first time in competition since europeans last year. She nailed it in the AA (ala Nastia Liukin in Beijing). There should be room for a double in the future. Unfortunately she has some problems with her first tumbling pass on floor, She went OOB both days.

Third was Joy Goedkoop, who did her first AA this season coming back from injury. She also fell from beam and on vault. She did well considering she has been injured since worlds last year.

4th was a tie between Marlies Rijken en Dianne Teunisse. Marlies is still my favorite, but kind of a headcase. Her VT (Y1/1) was strangely her best routine. Simply beautuful and stuck. Her stalder- and ellegrip work on bars is fantastic. ANd her lines too. Beam was wobbly, but she nailed her arabian. Her DM is scary. It is a double back, but she takes of pretty far before the end of the beam. So it looks like she will crash with her head against the end of the beam. It never happens, but I always hold my breath. Her floor is lovely. Balletic style, nice dance. double arabian and she finally stayed on her feet after her 2,5 twist DM. She usually runs out of gas at the end of her routine and falls. She won beam (tie with Mayra) and floor (yes!!!) in EF's, so it seems she is getting more consitent. Also a bronze on bars IIRC.

Surprise for me was Dianne Teunisse. She has been injured for almost her entire carreer. This was only the second time she competed AA at a national championship. 2 years ago she switched clubs and is now training at Pro Patria with Frank Louter (with Rijken, Van den Burg, Ouazzani, Kroonen, Willems, Tess Moonen and many others). She injured again at the French championships (she was invited to compete for a club). Elbow injury, but she has a fast recovery. VT she has a Y1/1. Bars is her best apparatus. Nice form, sky high yeager, but she rushes through her routine. double front DM. She made beam finals, nice form, great toe point. needs to work on her difficulty. Same for floor.

Jocelynn Kraan returned from a long injury and a though time in her personal life. Her mom has breastcancer. She is doing better now, but it must have been very difficult for Jocelynn and her family. She still lacks a bit of difficulty. Form is nice and she has a very nice floor. She is a nice dancer.

Yvette Moshage is a lovely gymnast. Picture perfect technique on all apparatus. You can really put a ruler next to her body. So straight. VT a 1/1Y. Bars great, but a bit slow. New double layout DM, but piked down at the end. Fell in the AA, landed it in EF. Beam and floor also nice. She now only wears a small knee bandage (she tore her ACL at topgym 2008) in stead of the heavy brace at Europeans.

Roos Engelbrecht is quite a new name. She also trains at Pro Patria since this year. She had a nice carreer, winning the national title in the 5th, 3rd and 1st devision 3 years in a row (junior category). Last year she switched to elite and she is doing quite well. Needs more difficulty, but she is working on that. Made beam final.

Sanne de Smet is a first year senior. Lovely form, reminds me of her teammate Sanne Wevers. The same great pirouettes on beam. Lacks difficulty still. Made beamfinal but unfortunately fell.

Samantha van Dijken: nice gymnast, but low difficulty

Vera van Pol is a shadow of her junior years. Has been injured. Only did beam and floor. No double double anymore and her leaps etc are still not good.

Juniors and youth later on

Thanks a lot Tessa! The team looks as Romanian although, as an army after a war! I can not believe how many injuries!
A couple of years ago I was hoping that Holland will get on the podium of this home for them WC and Romanian will be on the top... With all those injuries the only wish I have is to see the girls from both teams healthy.

Nice and motivational story of Fieke Willems. She is a really fighter! In October I would like to see her and congratulate such a determination.

I think that Wyomi Masela's fx issue can be fixed and it looks that she secured already for spot in the WC team.

Are there any other competitions for the Dutch team before WC? How they do the training camp?

Once again, thank you. :floricica:

TessaW
23rd June 2010, 14:36
Yes, many injuries... And because there are not so many elite gymnasts in the Netherlands, like in for instance USA or China, every one that is injured will be missed. The same as in Romania. 3 weeks ago Noaoul was still with 2 legs in a cast and on crutches, so no WC for her I think. One may hope but it is not realistic I think. About WC preparation: right now there are 5 gymnasts in the prť-selection. The ones that were on the Euro team: Mayra Kroonen, Wyomi Masela, Yvette Moshage, Sanne Wevers and Celine van Gerner. Nationals were the last 'open qualification' for the others to meet certain score-requirements. No-one met them. But the national team coordinator can add some gymnasts to the pre-selection. He will, because we need at least 6 gymnasts in Rotterdam. They probably will add Joy Goedkoop, Marlies Rijken, Suzanne Harmes and maybe Dianne Teunisse. Then we have the injured gymnastst that did not compete. For Naoual this season seems to be over. Hope she can come back strong and motivated for 2011. Lisa van den Burg was in the Euro's pre-selection, but injured her ankle during a test trainingcamp. If she shows to be fit again she may be added, based on the fact she was also in the pre-euro team. My guess though, not a rule. But I think we can use every healthy gymnast in the process...
Tomorrow the pre-team will be named, with a maximum of 14 gymnasts (it will be less)

About the juniors at nationals

The absolute best was Tess Moonen. She qualified for the Youth Olympics in Singapore. Let's see what she can do there against Didi Bulimar. I give Tess a good chance to medal again on beam! She is a lovely gymnast. Good form, poised, easy style. High front pike vault and straight yourchenko. An upgrade with a twist will be the next step. Bars is also nice, shaposhnikova, high yeager, double pike off. Beam is great, the only weak point is her DM: front full. Being a junior she still gets the 0.5 credit for a c-dismount, but next year she needs a D (same as bars and floor). My guess is they are working on that very hard. Floor is her weakest event. She needs to upgrade her tumbling.

beam AA http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=s2fknKNLLnI
fx AA http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=KqK_2vqELo4
in Ef's she won bars and beam

Surprise of the year is Lisa Top (96). Last year she medalled in youth category on vault. In the summer she switched clubs to Heerenveen. She trains with Celine van Gerner, Jocelynn Kraan, Joy Goedkoop and junior Saskia Meekma. She cleaned up her form and learned new elements like full in on floor. At her old club there were not many elites. Now she lives in a host family during the week and goes home friday night. Sunday morning she goes back.
She was 2nd AA, won VT and floor. On vault she has a high front half and front piked. She is working on upgrades. On bars is is still a bit messy, and has to work hard, but is also a lot better than last year. On beam she is much more consistent. Nice work, already pretty dificult. 1,5 DM, but used to be a double. Maybe she is working on a 2,5? Floor is her best event, with full in, double pike, 2,5 twist and double front twist. definately one to watch, if injuries stay away!

Third was Tessa Gerrits, who was also in the junior euro team. She also surprised me. Her form is great, beautiful toe-point. She trains at Turning Spirit Amsterdam, who have a nice crop of juniors coming up. She is always smiling, I like her beam routine best, She stuck her FTY!

4th: Ayla Wilbrink (also in junior euro team). Powerful girl. Has a DLO from bars, but last year she did one with a full twist! Hopefully she can get is back. FTY and nice floor. Beam is clearly her weakest event. Trains at Bosan TON with the Wevers sisters, Wyomi Masela, Sanne de Smet and Yvette Moshage.

5th: Melissa Scherpenisse, teammate of Ayla. A couple of years ago she won the little gymnasts nationals, but her progress seems to stock a bit. She transfered to Bosan TON 2 years ago and needs to learn new techniques. She is struggling with bars the entire season. I cannot remember one single routine that she finished without falling. Sadly she fell from bars in warm ups for event finals and broke her elbow. Poor girl. Hope she recovers soon. Best events are VT and FX. She certaintly has the potential, but it has not come out fully yet. Maybe next year will be better.

6th: NoŽl van Klaveren, my sentimental favourite. Very small but powerfull girl. Will already be senior next year, unbelievable. She comes from a small club, where she cannot train a lot. Only 12 hours a week. Since a couple of months she is also training at Turning Spirit Amsterdam, to be able to make more hours. She has great skills, esp on floor (triple twist, double pike) but lacks a bit of consistency due to limited trainingtime. She was injured (hand and hamstring) but is on her way back. Now she is training more, I think we will hear much more fromher, if you see what she can do with only 12 hours of training. Best event is floor.

7th: Serena Vlijt. Beautiful gymnast from Bosan TON. Had a horrible accident last year at nationals. With beam DM she crashed on her head. Still does only a front somi of the beam, maybe she is still scared. Has a DLO dm from bars though, so seems also on her way back.

8th: Nikki Olijve, teammate of Serena. She announced her retirement after nationals. A wrist injury that even after 4 months of rest was not getting better. she has grown a lot since last year. Not a little girl anymore but a beautiful young woman. She chooses for her health now and want to go to a dance academy. She came back just for nationals, to leave gymnastics with a good feeling. She was 5th in BB and FX finals and feels satisfied. Good for her.

9th Saskia Meekma (heerenveen). Had a terrible accident 2 years ago with a crash from bars. I still remember her scream. Her elbow was completely broken. On her way back. beam is er best event, but she lacks difficulty elsewhere. Her coaches take it slowly with her, but in the future with a bit more time she can be a very good gymnast. Not a surprise that beam is her best event. She was adopted from Romania when she was little. She is from Turgu Mures and her official name is Szasz Imola Meekma.

10 Julia Bombach (hazenkamp nijmegen). Quite tall for a gymnast

11 Elise Bats (Bosan TON). Has not the difficulty of her teammates, but is a nice one to watch.
12 Shirley de Boer. From the former club of Lisa Top. Had been injured all year, on her way back.
13 Elze Geurts, very tall, and does not have the difficulty or form to be the best. But nice she tries!
14. Maartje Ruikes. Very small gymnast. Lovely to watch. did not compete floor, hope she is not injured. Beam is her best event and FX is very funny. She should grow a bit to get some more power. Then she can be very good.
15 Tessa Alberts. (Pro patria). Only competed beam due to an elbow injury. she can hardly use her arm but maneges to have already nice difficulty and form. needs a bit more stability, Took the bronze medal on beam.

Thank you for all the news related to the Dutch Nationals, Tess:) I cannot believe how many accidents and injuries happened to the Dutch gymnsts, both seniors and juniors...I am so sorry to find out about all these injuries...
However, I admire a lot the courage of Fieke Willems...she came back to gymnastics after such a terrible accident...Good luck to her!!! And good luck to all these girls after all the injuries they had and still have, Cannot wait to see them at the Worlds in october!!!

Thanks a lot, Tessa, for your detailed report. I wished I had been there this year too.
Because of the distance, however, I couldn't come...

I am happy with everything you told us about (cannot wait to see some movies) and of course that you mentioned Maartje Ruikes, my little favourite:) hope that she'll resist till seniorship.

I am really sorry for all the injuries, but I am glad that they seem to do a better job here in fixing them than in Romania...(our all-time big disappointment...). It delights me to see gymnasts coming back after so many injuries and at such ages...I would also like to see that more in Romania, although actually the "miracle" almost happened, if we take into account Corina (almost30!)

Can't wait to see the Dutch team do well in October! I'll surely cheer for them:)

Romanian Nationals are scheduled for Sept. 18.
I would like them to change the date of Nationals - let's say 1-2 weeks before and go for the meet.

In one of the first interviews after B&B returned, Belu mentioned that the training will be in both Deva and Izvorani (Bucharest) as well as international champs outside. I did not see and I did not hear about any schedule.

By the way, if you did not know yet, the latest and biggest news: Romanian Gymnastics Federation re-open their web site: www.romgym.ro It looks better than the old one and I hope they'll have the English version of it soon. And one more hope... I hope they keep it up to date. ;)

Hi guys,

some notes from podium training. , It was hard to follow evryone as the teams worked simultaniously on all 4 pieces. Also, there will be many, many typo’s, hard to watch and type at the same time.

Sub 3
ROM, POL, ISR, BRA.

ROM bars all 7 are in the arena, Looks like they have nog decided yet who will be alternate. Wearing blue and black leos. Izbasa constantly chalking up for the others.
Haidu: stalder, late turn, gienger legs apart, dead hang, nice full in DM.
Dragoi: nice full turn and toe on fulk turn, ugly gienger, full in DM. Second turn: same but with yeager, stuck DM.
Racea (knee bandage): nice 1,5 turn, but struggles to go on atfter, empty swing, double front. 2nd turn: breaks after 1,5 turn. Fall, and again struggles with the 1,5 turn. 3rd time: now she connects yeager to 1,5 turn, but lets go after the yeager
Porgras: late 1,5 turn, connect yeager, legs apart at DLO. 2nd time: very late 1,5 turn. Great DLO.
Chelaru: dead hang but cleaned up her form when she swings. Good DLO. 2nd time: starts on hig bar, ugly gienger betrween te bars, yeager, flice nicely to low bar in good handstand, too much speed on DM, steps back.

Patrascu wears leg warrmers and does not seem to go on bars. Looks at the team from a ltle distance. Helps Izbasa with preparing bars and sprnboard.

IN the end Patrascu gets a go. After al the others already packed their backs, loud cheers for her from her teammates. Very energetic swing, high shaposnikova. Stops after that.

BRA BB
Hypolito: ugly sheepjump, ff-ff LO (piked a bit), stops after second attempt. nice change split leap with head back
Barbosa: ff-ff LO (piked a bit, fall),
- the same gymnast constantly low on double tuck DM, almost touched head to the end of the beam

POL VT
- handsprin fron with full twist (tuck)
Pihan: high front pike

ISR FX

Rot 2:
ROM BB]
Izbasa: pike fron 2 fet, tuck frnt, too mcuh speed spin leg up, breaks combo free walkover, ff, LOSO ,sitch leap half tun wobble, free carthweel, 2 leaps split, very short on triple DM, again short, but better
Racea: front tuck,. Breaks combo to back pike, split quarter, split half, arial cartweel-side sommi, split lweap turn, low double tuck.
Porgras: high LO. Little wobbles after free cartweel-side somi. Rock solid the second time.
Dragoi: wobble after double spn, fal on 2,5 DM short. Better turn nextt ime. Same fault on DM, short, lands with legs a bit crossed and falls sidewards.
Haidu; fall on full. Again when she does full routine, free walkobve, back tuck, wobble. Split leap half, ful turn, splot leap quarter wobble, leaps, olnly 1 somi dm.
Chealaru: breaks combo, fall on full back when she does her full routine. And again, but now to the other side. High combo. Fron tuick, frony pike to 2 feet. 2 split kleap, only one somi dm

Patrascu: fall on front somi, wobble afther

ISR VT
High 1,5 Y maksyuta.
Y full for rabinovitz

POL UB

BRA FX. Funny how they present to the ‘judges’ . The other teams just start their training
Hypolito: double tuck end

Barbosaa: high piked fulln, 1,5-full twist, douple pike

3rd rotation

ROM FX (dragoi stays off the podium, later patrascu joins her)
Chelaru warms up DLO

Racea: triple, fall out of turn leg high, stuck double tuck, i,5-lay out, trple spin nice, fall on 2,5, like she was tired. Needs to do it again: good.
Haidu: trilpe, 1 step, short full in hand down, turn leg high, 1,5-double twits stuck, double tuck.
Izbasa: 2 turn with leg high, high fuill in, messy legs, 1,5 –triple stuck and all the way around, 2,5 – 1,5 but lands 1,5 OOB. Again but with full at the end: stays in bounds.
CHelaru: low DLO big step, whip triple, full in step, double tuck (seems out of place with all the other difficult tumbling)
Isbasa does her last pass again: great.
Porgras: double turn leg high, stuck ful in, 2,5-tuck front, memmel, double tuck, double pike. CAnt help to smile at this routine. It is lovely. Applause from the audiance.
ChelaruL DLO again, short hands down, she does it again: better

ISR UB
Maksyuta: comanceai, ful turn, high yeager,
One teammate of her limps from vault to bars. Helps to prepare the bars. And after that goes on bars as well, limps after again

BRA VT
- front tuck
- y 1
Barbosa; 1 Y
Hypolito: half on, front tuck off

POL BB
Pihan: stuck double front off (cowboyed though)

Rotation 4:

ROM VT (Everyone except Dragoi)
Izbasa: high Y1, high Y1,5, idem, DTY stuck, DTY, high 5 with coach and belu.
Porgras: Y1, stuck Y1, Y1,
Patrascu: Y1, high Y1, Y1
Haidu: High Y1, bounces out, nice DTY, low DTY big step to side, DTY piked down but ,. stays on her feet and inside the lines, gets a talk from female coach, and a hug afterwards
Racea Y1, high Y1, DTY fall to side, stuck DTY, bend legs.
Chelaru DTY, DTY, timers for second vault, fall on pike front, better second time, front tuck with half twist, messy legs,

They looked good. After training Sandra was laughing with Belu. Sandra and Cera were helping all over the place on bars and when Diana had to do her DLO on floor again because in the routine with music it did not go that well, everyone shouted hai, hai, hai Didi. Also with Amelia who had to repeat her 2,5 twist a couple of times. Gabi was chatting with all the girls waiting for their turn on vault. SAndra was really pleased with her DTY, she got high fives from everyone. Raluca seemed a bit down after vaultm, het DTY is still iffy. The last time it was good though. The female coach (dont remember the name) took her apart and talked to her, head between her hands, in a motherly way. After that she got a small hug.

Belu was there all the time, but he did not come on the podium. He talked to the girls a lot though.

I saw the first part of the training. It was pretty cold in the hall. The team entered wearing thick wintercoats. Amelia, Ana and Diana kept wearing gloves during the warm up. They wore red training leos with black and gold. They looked nice in it. Romania first went on bars. Ana was doing the combo 1,5 pirouette to yeager much better than I have seen her do in competitions. She finished the turn almost in handstand. Amelia did her dismount combo many times: 1,5 pirouette to double front. It looked good! Gabriela looked good too. Only her gienger is so slow, and she looses all her rythm with it. Perfect full in dismounts. Cerasela did not do as many repetitions as the others. Love her high tkatchev. Good double front DM. Sandra helped preparing the bars all the time and the girls encouraged each other during the routines and applauded when it went well.

Beam: Raluca has problems with the back full. Only twice she stayed on the beam, out of the 10 times she tried. The rest of the routine was pretty stable. All of them were stable. Only a few wobbles, but especially Ana, Sandra and Cerasela did their jobs almost effortless time after time. Ana fell once on a leap, but I have not seen her wobble the entire practice. Did 5 ff-ff LO without a problem. Gabi fell also once and wobbled a few times after her double spin. Sandra only did double twists dismounts, the rest I did not see do any dismounts but I had to leave 5 minuted before the end of the beamrotation.

I saw the practice today. Amelia was there, but just did a couple of swings on bars. Then she disappeared for a while and returned, but she remained seeted on the chairs and did not do anything anymore. I noticed a piece of tape on her upperback during the first part of training. It is the same place as where she iced yesterday.

About practice:
Cerasela was doing bar routine after barroutine on one barsset, the rest of the team was on the other (inlcuding Amelia for the start, that is why I though Cera would be the alternate. But then Amelia disappeared and came back not training again). They looked good on bars, but Gabi was struggling to get through her routine. Raluca, Ana and Diana did well.

Beam: All six did beam. Raluca struggled again with the full. Ana nailed every set. Gabi had some problems with a front somi and her double twist dismount.

Floor: Only 4 girls did floor. Gabi and Cera did not. Maybe they will only do 4 routines in competution? It is a risk, but all 4 should be able to score good. They all did well in their tumbles. Ana: full in. Diana: DLO, ful in, nailed her whip-tripple twist. Sandra: full in, triple twist. Raluca; triple twist, full in.

Vault: Diana did a DTY, the rest did only single ones. Raluca piked hers down a lot. The coaches make her look at Sandra how she does is. Sandra got a lot of height. In podiumtraining both of them dit a DTY, today they did not.
Gabi did not vault.

but this is dangerouse... what if one of the first 4 girls has an under 10, or 11 routine? if healthy, they should try to step in...

That a horrible scenario, it would mean 2-3 falls in one exercise..
But if that happens, Gabi or Cera may perform their routines even if they did not practise them at the last training session.

And I still don't know if it is that risky, I think the qualification into the team final is safe enough even with an 11 score.

Thanks monalexa and ancaqwe! Unfortunately the videos don't all load on the Sandra Izbasa page (those that do are the ones currently available on youtube), but I'm slowly going through the "aparitii TV" pages and finding links....hopefully I'll recover them all! Thanks again!

Haha, reading what I wrote 3 years ago about NoŽl van Klaveren. Boy has she come a long way!
The only others that still compete are Lisa Top (returning form elbow injury, Melissa Scherpenisse, Julia Bombach and Maartje Ruikes.

Tess Moonen retired, she had a lot of psychological problems due to mental abuse and neglected injuries from her former coach.
Tessa Gerrits had many injuries and retired last year.
Ayla Wilbrink retired after the test event last year, to concentrate on her school.
Serena Vlijt retired after nationals, iird 2 years ago.
Saskia Meekma retired last year. She had a terrible fall from UB when she was young and never really came over her fear for the apparatus. She was not allowed to train at the National trainingcenter in Heerenveen anymore after last year because she was nog making enough progress. Now she is doing sports acrobatics and her coach says she has a great future ahead of her!
Elise Bats retired two months ago after many injuries.
Shirley de Boer transferred to a lower level.
Elze Geurts too I think.
Tessa Alberts transferred to sailing, she made the junior europeans last year, She also had simular experiences as Tess Moonen.

Tessa, welcome back here, in the English thread!:)

It's so sad hearing do many bad news about those gymnasts, especially about Tess Moonen. Wasn't there a possibility that she would change the couch? It's so sad, she had an entire career ahead of her! I just hope Celine van Gerner will be ok, I like her a lot.

She did change coaches/clubs. Last year around this time she went to Bato/Pax to train with Kate Sarisska (coach of Chantysha Netteb and formerly Natasja Blind). She was surprised by the positive atmosphere there. She was treated well and the coaches gave her compliment. But she did not believe them. She always thought negative about herself, because that was the only way she was treated. Those bad feelings came back twice as strong. She had escaped the 'prison', but because she was physically away now and she was treated well, she got time to think and reflect. And then all the stress and unhappiness from all those years (that she stuffed away far inside her all those years, also from her parents and even herself, she did not know she was actually unhappy, she played a role all those years also for herself) came up. She got nightmares, sleepless nights, heart beats, etc. She was at the verge of a mental breakdown. She talked to sport psychiatrists ans then she knew she just had to leave the sport.

She is slowly doing better now. Still has her issues (negative thinking about herself), but she will get ther. I interviewed her last month for a big national newspaper where she told her story. I was shocked, thought (and hoped) things like this did not happen anymore. That the similar story's of Verona vd Leur, Suzanne Harmes, Renske Endel and Gabriella Wammes were something of the past. That it had stopped. It hadn't. It happened until last year at least and Tess fears for the girls that are still training at her old club.

The abuse was not physical as in beating or something, but mental. Shouting all the time, yelling for over an hour to a certain gymnast, ignoring her, forbidding others to talk to her, etc. Also the injuries were downplayed. They never dared to complain about some pain. Put if something really went wrong, like breaking something where there were already stressfractures, then they got yelled at that they did not tell something earlier.

Wyomi Masela changed clubs after Nationals. She is now training in Amsterdam at the same club as NoŽl van Klaveren. NoŽl did nog have a very good national. She fell 3 times from UB, 2 from BB. FX and VT were good in the AA. Then in EF's, she fell on her DTY, leaving the title for Wyomi. NoŽl was very tired after euro''s and her high school final exams. She also had a little knee injury. She did not want to peak for nationals, but will for the qualifying meets for worlds.

NoŽls teammate Vera van Pol won surprisingly the AA title. She is 19, always was a big talent (double double as a junior) but bad bars and inconsistent. Since two years she trains in Amsterdam, she had to learn very different techniques and had to overcome lots of fear. She litterely started with handstands and giants again. Now she is steadily getting better, even though the AA total (53 or 54 something) was nog that high for a winner. Hope we see more of her.

Celine van Gerner took silver, after a break after the olympics. In septemer she tore her ankle ligaments, so she was forced to take a break. In december she doubted about retiring, but in february she decided to continue. She is now at 70% of her ability she said. She lost lots of skills, put on weight and lost her conditioning. Now she looks good, but not great yet.

Wyomi took bronze. NoŽl was fourth.

Julia Bombach impressed me, She is quite tall and always just below the top. She has a really cool and difficult barroutine, but is quite inconsistent. She cried when she fell in EF's. Even though, kudos for her to go on. She had many injuries but seems to love the sport very much. Her teammate Maartje Ruikes did OK-ish.

Chantysha Netteb only competed UB due to the knee injury she sustained at euros. She won the the title, which says something about te weak field, conidering it is Chantysha's worst event.

Lisa Top was absent due to an elbow injury from december. She was finally cleared a couple of weeks ago to start training again.

Sanne Wevers and Lieke Wevers were also injured. Lieke has some kind of a wrist injury.

Melissa Scherpenisse was feeling really dizzy in the morning, so could not compete.

Joy Goedkoop will have another injury in august, Yvette Moshage retired.

Daphne Slingerland (97) was thrilled with her bronze on beam. She started top gymnastics quite late (12 years old) and she needs to make up lots of ground. Slowly she is getting better.

Annabelle Schmidt returned to competition after 2 years absence due to 2 surgery's on her torn achilles tendon. Kudos to her for not giving up!

Some about the juniors:

Eythora Thorsdottir (98) won the AA, ofcourse. She is quite ahead of the field, and a beauty to watch. Sadly she is quite inconsistent, but she improved on UB a lot.
2nd was Dana de Groot (98 I think, or 99). She is from Flik Flak club, Vera van Pols former club. Her best event is floor. A very elegant gymnast. Reminds me a bit of Dorina Bogzogo. Lovely to watch on floor. Beam is OK (nice lines), bars is bad. Somehow gymnasts from Flik Flak all have quite bad bars.
3rd was Mara Titarsolej (99). A great little gymnast from De Hazenkamp club (former club of Fieke Willems, and now Maartje Ruikes and Julia Bombach). Hazenkamp has new coaches since a couple of years (after Boris Orlov and Esther Heijnen left after quite a scandal of mental abuse). Slowly they are getting back at the national top. Mara is a joy to watch.

These 3 our the EYOF team, probably the most elegant team we had in years. Definately worth a watch!

Other juniors are not quite there yet. Jin Yi Hoekstra (98) and Helene Houbraken (99) look promising though, but they just need more time.

Wow, thanks for the updates, Tessa.

I am so sad seeing that there are so many injuries with the Netherlands girls. I really enjoy Noel and it's sad to hear she has a knee ijury and her DTY is not that consistent. It was a wonderful vault at Euros and I was hoping for a World final for her.

And I am also sad to hear about Celine van Gerner. I liked her a lot in 2010, in Rotterdam and I was hoping she would be even better every time. Perhaps from now on.

NoŽl will be fine. She did not want to peak at nationals. Her DTY in the AA was beautiful. in EF she was just a tiny bit short. Her knee is OK now, it is not something bad. More like growing pains. She is growing quite a bit (only in hight so far). And she was verrrrry nervous for nationals. Remember she was a gymnast that had never even won a medal at nationals, other than here bronze when she was 10. Suddenly all eyes were on her. She put so much pressure on herself, even though she was not fully prepared due to her knee, and her school exams. I think many of the mistakes she made were because of this.

Her coaches are taking it easy with her, are just careful. She is training an Amanar though and an upgraded second vault. We will see if they will be ready for worlds, but I don't think so. Her long term goal is Rio, so they are not gonna hurry her.

Celine will be fine too. She really made a conscious choice to continue now (as opposed to 'just going on after the olympics because gymnastics is what I do'). She said that afer a short break she was immediately back in the gym. The bad injury was actually a blessiing in disguise, because she was forced to take a real break and she had te time to coop with her fysical and emotional exhaustion after the olympics. She said if she did not take that break, she probably would have been burnt out in one or 2 years.

In february, when she returned to the gym, she really made a choice for gymnnastics. Yes, she was not 100% at nationals, but it was only her first competition. She will be fine in the future. She has become a mature young woman, who really knows what she wants.

Same as with Wyomi BTW. She also made a choice for gymnastics. It took her almost a year, but the trainingstage in Canada convinced her that she wanted to commit for another olympic cycle. She also was not in perfect shape yet, but she showed already new upgrades, like a DLO on floor and from bars.
