Dupa toata nebunia din ultimele luni, a ramas doar Indy Car. Va reusi sa rivalizeze cu ceea ce a fost CART in anii '90? Personal nu cred, insa oricum vor avea nevoie de ani buni pentru a ajunge acolo. Calendarul pt 2008 este urmatorul

Ar fi pacat sa nu-l vedem pe Tracy, iar Forsythe este un numel cu greutate in cursele de monoposturi americane. Ar putea aparea si cursele din Edmonton, Elkhart Lake si Queensland din cate am inteles. Orice am spune acum, prin aceasta unificare s-a creat un mare haos. Personal ma bucur intr-un fel ca exista din nou o serie cu peste 20 de monoposturi pe grila, dar pe de alta parte nu cred ca spectacolul din anii 90 sa revina prea curand. CART-ul avea la sfarsitul anilor 90 nu mai putin de patru motoare (Honda, Ford, Toyota si Mercedes), trei sasiuri (Lola, Reynard si Swift - superb era modelul lui Michael Andretti), pe cand acum exista un singur sasiu si un singur motor :(

P.S. @ Pending, Se intampla sa ai un wallpaper cu monopostul lui Michael Andretti , numarul 6 black de la Newman/Haas ? Mi-ar produce o mare bucurie sa-l revad.

mă gândesc că 2 echipe din CC care au fiecare câte un pilot să fuzioneze și apară o singură echipă, 2 piloți și mai mulți bani ...
știu că au mai fost cazuri în CC în acest fel ...

m-am tot gândit ... să mâncăm colivă după CC sau să bem șampanie pentru IC ... prefer să beau un păhar mare de șampanie și să mănânc o linguriță mică de colivă ... Sigur că regret că s-a terminat cu CC, dar decât să mă uit la monotonul F1 mai bine urmăresc cu plăcere IC ...

Ai dreptate Mario. Daca ne gandim mai bine, CC-ul a cam murit din 2004 incoace putin cate putin, adica dupa plecarea lui Penske, Andretti si Ganassi totul a luat-o in jos, apoi a venit schimbarea cu Panozul, apropierea de Europa etc. Nu mai era acelasi spirit. Orice am spune, spiritul Indy e tot in State, pe ovale, pe circuitele stradale. Deci, un pahar de sampanie si pentru mine.

Forsythe Championship Racing Ceases Operations

Paul Tracy’s hopes of being a part of the newly unified IndyCar Series hit a roadblock Thursday when his Forsythe Championship Racing team announced it would not be making the transition from the Champ Car World Series.

“It simply comes down to finances,” said Neil Micklewright, VP of Operations for FCR. “We’ve been unable to find sponsorship, and so Forsythe Championship Racing is done.

“We will be taking part in the Long Beach Grand Prix to fulfill our legal obligation to the track. We’ll have at least three cars, maybe more.”

The Long Beach entries will be run by Forysthe Racing, the team’s Atlantic Series arm, which will continue operations. Canadian James Hinchcliffe and Mexican David Garza, who logged the fastest and second-fastest times, respectively, in a recent open test at Sebring International Raceway, will drive for the team in the 2008 Cooper Tires Presents The Atlantic Championship Powered by Mazda.

Tracy, who has driven for Forsythe in Champ Car since 2003 (when he won the series title with the team), was uncertain about his next move, but emphasized that the unified IndyCar Series remains his top priority.

“I’m in shock and I’m very, very disappointed,” related the Canadian star. “I haven’t spoken to Jerry since our meeting last December, but I think I can say we both left that meeting feeling renewed, invigorated and ready to go racing.

“Since that meeting, a lot has changed of course, but I thought that with that same kind of spirit in the team, we could have challenged for victory at the Indy 500. I believe I’m one of the best oval drivers in the country, and with the strong crew that we had in place, we could have been contenders.

“Right now, I need to quickly regroup, regain my composure and then start looking for another ride – and I mean in IndyCar. The team may be done, but I’m ready to go racing.”

Although Forsythe’s participation in a unified series had been the subject of much speculation since merger rumors first began, FCR’s Micklewright maintained that the rationale for the move was purely financial, and that the team still has hopes of regrouping for 2009.

“The way the team was coming together with new personnel and great investment by Jerry allowing our technical department to really do its stuff, I reckon we’d have been a real force in Champ Car in 2008,” he said. “With the IndyCar rules being so much more open, for things like damper investment, flanged wheels and wind tunnel time, we’d have been running around at the back unless we’d have spent a hell of a lot more money. Without sponsorship, that wasn’t going to happen.

“I’m going to try and keep a core group going so that we might try and run IndyCars in 2009 – I believe that is still a possibility. But again it’s dependent on sponsorship.”

ce ciudat este să mai ai doar o lună de zile până la startul noului sezon și să nu ai pe ce să "alergi" ...
cred că în acest sezon echipele din CC nu au nici o șansă la titlu ...

Echipele din CC, daca vor reusi sa se claseze in primele 10 spre sfarsitul sezonului va fi foarte bine. Singurul din pilot din Champ Car pe care il vad cu sanse sa fie printre primii ar fi Paul Tracy, dar cu conditia sa prinda o a treia masina la Ganassi sau Penske asa cum vrea el, iar asta e foarte putin probabil.

Iata un fapt interesant care spune multe...Cel mai bun timp reusit de un monopost IndyCar la Sebring a fost de 53.517 sec, performanta apartinandu-i lui Tony Kanaan. Prin comparatie, Franck Perrera reusea in primele, singurele si se ultimele teste de anul acesta din Champ Car un 49.806 sec, pe acelasi circuit de la Sebring. Deci Panozul bate de departe Dallara ! Cel putin asa reiese din aceasta comparatie. Nu am gasit nimic despre existenta unor conditii meteo potrivnice.

tot 3 sec si ceva a fost diferenta la un test pe homestead (nu pe oval) acum cateva luni.

Pana una alta o veche cunostiinta de-a nostra, Max Papis va concura la Indy..

A mai concurat prin American Le Mans Series. Dar oricum va fi o singura cursa, Indy 500, unde se poarta readucerea in prim-plan a veteranilor sau a pilotilor retrasi, vezi Michael Andretti.

nu mai tin minte cum se numea site-ul. Dar bine, si eu am unele indoieli, in primul rand ca era un site de care nu mai auzisem pana atunci, si in al doilea, parca e prea ..perfect calendarul asta, adica 50/50 cursele.... ar fi bine daca ar fi asa. Deci nu bag mana in foc pentru asta :o:

Walker Racing Withdraws IndyCar Program

Derrick Walker makes official announcement.


Indianapolis, IN (March 9, 2008) - Reluctantly, Walker Racing has been forced to withdraw its attempt to join the IndyCar Series for 2008. The racing partnership of "Team Australia" and the association with Australian businessman Craig Gore, drivers Will Power and Simon Pagenaud, has also come to an end.

Notwithstanding a commitment for 2008, it came down to the lack of funding. A lengthy search for new sponsorship partners drew a blank, so Walker Racing had to close the program officially on Friday.

"It's a great pity that the team has had to abandon our IndyCar program. So much work by so many has gone into the Team Australia program over the last three and a half years, but now it will remain unfinished business for us. I wish my co-partner well with his new venture and so to Will and Simon and all the employees, associates and fans who have given me the opportunity. Many thanks," said Walker Racing Owner, Derrick Walker.

Imi pare rau de Walker. Dupa Forsythe o alta echipa cu renume va lipsi...

Stoddart rules out IRL campaign

Paul Stoddart has decided not to enter his Minardi Team USA in the Indy Racing League this season.

He doesn't think the team, who ran Robert Doornbos to third in the Champ Car standings last season, could be competitive in their first year of IRL with the merger coming together so close to the start of the season.

When asked by autosport.com, he said: "I did enough tugging round at the back to know I don't want to do it again. I had a taste of victory last year and it was very nice, so I'll just take a sabbatical and see what happens.

"I think realistically 2010 is the first opportunity for Champ Car teams to become competitive, when the new car comes."

Stoddart believes the unification of open-wheel racing in North America was for the best, but doesn't think many Champ Car teams will make the switch for 2008.

"What happened was good for North American motorsport, it had to happen. But it wasn't beneficial for any of the Champ Car teams. In anything like this there are winners and losers and all the Champ Car teams were the losers.

"Newman/Haas will be there or thereabouts but I don’t think we'll see many other teams go across there. Not because they don’t want to, but with four weeks until the start of the season it's a pretty big ask to change your entire operating facility to a car you've never seem, on ovals you've never raced on, and to go out and be competitive."

But Stoddart will field cars in the one-off Champ Car event at Long Beach next month.

"We're going to have fun! I’m going to really enjoy that weekend and we're going all out to do the best job we can for the last ever Champ Car race.

"More above anything else, Champ Car stood for entertainment and fun. I will be sad afterwards as it's the end of an era, but it's overwhelmingly right for North American motorsport to reunify."

în așteptarea ICS, am urmărit azi F1 doar de dragul lui Seba Bourdais ... a terminat pe locul 8 (1 punct), dar în momentul când motorul său s-a spart era pe locul 4 în fața lui Alonso și Kovalainen și cel mai important ... ERA MAI RAPID DECÂT CEI 2 ...

Foarte bun Seba, dupa cel mai bun campion care vine din America in F1 dupa Jacques Villeneuve incoace. Pacat de ghinionul din final, dar a aratat un mare potential si e bina ca a trecut de emotiile debutului :ok:

A avut si noroc si ghinion. Noroc, pentru ca unii piloti din fata lui au condus ca niste amatori, iar cu toate perioadele de neutralizare cursa a semanat cu una din CC. Ghinion, evident cedarea motorului. Important pentru el e sa fie constant si sa ia puncte. Va fi greu sa-l bata pe Vettel, care dupa parerea mea este cel mai talentat dintre tinerii din F1, insa vom vedea. Oricum sunt convins ca-si freaca palmile de multumire ca e la TR in F1, si nu la NHL in IRL.

Enrique Bernoldi will get to work straight away for Conquest Racing.

The former Formula One driver will join Franck Perera for testing on the Sebring International Raceway circuit March 19-20, the team announced.

Bernoldi will drive the No. 36 Dallara/Honda/Firestone, beginning in the GAINSCO Auto Insurance Indy 300 at Homestead-Miami Speedway. Perera was named last month to drive the No. 34 car for the team that is transferring from the Champ Car World Series.

"I am very happy to be joining Conquest Racing," said Bernoldi, 29, from Brazil. "I think we have an interesting season ahead of us. At the beginning, we will have to learn a lot because it is a new car for the team and for me and especially to race on ovals, which I never did. But it will be interesting. I'm very motivated and I think we will do a good job.

"Having (team co-owner) Eric (Bachelart) here helps as well because as an ex-driver he understands more what the driver needs. It is a very positive relationship with him and everybody on the team. I look forward to testing the car this week, and even if it is a little late being one week away from the first race, everybody's target is to learn quickly and be competitive through the season."

Bernoldi made 28 starts over two seasons for the Arrows Formula One team. In 2003, he recorded two victories and five podium finishes in the Formula Nissan World Series. He finished third in the championship in 2004, with two wins and seven podiums. He returned to F1 in 2004 as a test driver with BAR.

"Enrique is a great addition to the Conquest Racing team and his vast experience in motor racing will be beneficial to us as we make the transition to the IndyCar Series," Bachelart said. "We're delighted to have him join the team. He has adapted well and was competitive in all the forms of racing he has done and I am certain that he will be up to speed quickly, as will Franck, with the Dallara."

Recently, Bernoldi competed in the StockCar Brasil series and participated in the Argentinean TC2000.

"I think Enrique and Franck will make a great duo," added Anthony Blumberg of Opes Prime, co-owner of Conquest Racing. "When you add these two exceptionally talented drivers to the team that Eric has put in place, I feel Conquest Racing will surprise a few people this year in the 'new' IndyCar Series."

Dupa ce semnase cu Rocketsports pentru a alerga in Champ Car, Bernoldi trece la Conquest Racing. Acest lucru pune punct unor zvonuri ca Paul Tracy ar fi fost pe punctul de a ajunge la echipa lui Eric Bachelart.

Avem asadar 3 foste echipe din Champ Car cu cate 2 masini confirmate:

Maine si poimaine cele 3 echipe, vor testa la Sebring, unde vor fi prezenti, probabil cei de la Dale Coyne Racing.

]INDYCAR: Newman/Haas/Lanigan Pulls Out of Sebring Test

Wilson will have to wait a bit longer to try out an IndyCar Dallara.

Newman/Haas/Lanigan Racing was among the first of the former Champ Car teams to confirm that it would be making the transition to the IndyCar Series following last month’s announcement that the two groups would run a unified schedule this season, but its drivers Justin Wilson and Graham Rahal will not be among the teams testing at Sebring International Raceway this week. The team, which has partnered with Rahal Letterman Racing during the transition period, took delivery of two IndyCar Series Dallara-Hondas on March 3, but now says a shortage of available parts will prevent it from running until next week’s open tests at Homestead-Miami Speedway on March 24-25.

“Despite the best efforts of Dallara and the IndyCar Series, we still don’t have all the parts necessary to be ready in time to test in Sebring,” said NHLR General Manager Brian Lisles. “It is a big disappointment for the team and an enormous setback, because we will be losing valuable track time that will be difficult to recover. The team continues to work hard to complete the cars in time for the Homestead test March 24-25.”

“Obviously I am disappointed that I won’t be testing at Sebring,” said Wilson. “I was looking forward to trying out the Dallara for the first time and making some progress on our 2008 season. The circumstances have come about that we won’t be able to make it and I know the team will use the extra time wisely. They said right from the start that they will not put out a car that is not up to their usual high standard of preparation. It is reassuring for me to know that I will have a reliable car especially given the commitment necessary to compete on some of these high-speed tracks.”

Commented teammate Graham Rahal, “It is disappointing to not be testing in Sebring this week but we all understand that this team has been used to sending the car out on the racetrack without any doubts in their mind that their preparation was 100-percent perfect. We have found ourselves in a position where this would not be the case and instead we felt that it would be best to focus our efforts on the Homestead test and race. This will give us more time to prepare for the busy upcoming schedule.”

Misto asa. Devine tot mai penibila si imbecila situatia. Una din cele mai titrate echipe din motorsportul american, nu are PIESE pentru a efectua un test.

Pai daca nici Newman Haas nu se poate integra corespunzator in Indy Car deja incep sa regret sezonul saracut de Champ Car ce se prefigura la orizont. Nu se poate asa ceva. Mai sunt 2 saptamani pana la prima cursa si baietii din CCWS nu au pus inca piciorul intr-un sasiu Dallara :( Pentru Tony George :rosu:

Ei bine, dintre cei 5 piloti prezenti la Sebring Will Power, pentru KV Racing a fost cel mai rapid cu un timp de 52.9685, urmat de Bruno Junqueira pentru Dale Coyne cu 53.2339. Power si Bruno ar fi fost mai rapizi decat toti pilotii din IRL in prima lor zi de teste de acum cateva saptamani, iar timpii combinati ar arata in felul urmator:

Desigur, nu inseamna prea mult asta, avand in vedere ca Sebring este un circuit pe care si pilotii si echipele din CC il cunosc foarte bine, testand acolo de ani de zile. Ovalurile sunt cele care vor face diferenta si vom vedea asta weekendul viitor. Dale Coyne Racing Ready to Contend in 2008 IndyCar Series



PLAINFIELD, Ill. – March 19, 2008 – Marking its 25th year of Indy car racing, Dale Coyne Racing announced Wednesday that the team will field two cars in the 2008 IndyCar® Series. The team will participate in all races on the 2008 IndyCar Series schedule and the Champ Car farewell on April 20 in Long Beach.



Bruno Junqueira, the 2002 Indy 500 pole sitter, will drive the No. 18 Dallara. He returns to Dale Coyne Racing after a stellar 2007 Champ Car season, finishing seventh. “This season brings new challenges – a new series, new car, new tracks – but at the end of the day, everybody is starting from scratch,” says the likeable Brazilian. “I love the ovals and really look forward to getting back to Indy. Dale and I both have some unfinished business to do there.”



IndyCar rookie, Brazilian Mario Moraes, will drive the No. 19 Dallara. In 2004, Moraes began driving F3 cars, showing great promise in his young career. He spent 2007 as a competitor in the British F3 International Series. Moraes showed well during testing at the recent Champ Car Spring Training at Sebring. About the upcoming season, Moraes expresses, “This is quite a challenge for me, but I am excited to learn with Dale’s experience with rookies and with Bruno who I know can help me a lot.”



“I have done this a long time, first driving, then qualifying several rookies at the Indy 500 over the years,” reflects team owner Dale Coyne. “I cannot tell you how much going back to Indy means to me. To go back and truly be competitive is a great dream and challenge.”



Coyne indicates that the team has been working long hours, having less than two weeks to prepare both cars for the opening test at Sebring today. The team will be testing today and tomorrow at Sebring International Raceway before moving to Homestead for its first oval test on March 24 and 25. The first race of the year, the Gainsco Auto Insurance Indy 300, is March 29 at Homestead-Miami Speedway.

P.S. Eurosport 2 avea contract pentru Champ Car. Stie cineva cum vom putea urmari noul Indy in 2008? Stiu ca in sezonul trecut postul Sport Klub transmitea cursele IRL.

Paul Tracy s-a resemnat cu ramanerea in afara grilei din IndyCar, anuntand ca singura certitudine pentru 2008 este prezenta la finala ChampCar de la Long Beach.


"My options right now are pretty limited," Tracy told Indianapolis radio station 1070 The Fan.

"I've got to sort my contract situation out with Forsythe and we haven't been able to achieve that yet.

"I could get in a car right now and do it, but it's not going to happen by (Homestead) next week. As of right now, the only time I know I'm going to be in a car is at Long Beach, and from there I don't know. I'd like to be in an IndyCar, I'd like to be in a good car and to have the opportunity to run at Indy.

"I'm under contract to Forsythe and obviously I can't go out and start talking to other teams while I'm under contract. I've yet to even be able to get hold of (team owner) Gerry (Forsythe) or (team boss) Neil (Micklewright) to get an answer on that. So that's where we stand."

Tracy is keen to secure a drive with one of the current top IndyCar teams, but knows that this is now unlikely.

"The three top teams right now - Andretti-Green, Ganassi and Penske - are full, so of my first three choices there's probably a 95 percent chance they're not going to happen," he said.

"As of right now, I haven't really had any talks with any other teams. Obviously there is interest, but it's going to take budget and sponsorship. These cars aren't cheap to run."

He revealed that he has a potential Grand-Am outing with former Champ Car rival Alex Tagliani lined up, and is keen to find a drive for the NASCAR Nationwide Series' Montreal event, should he be forced to sit out the IndyCar season.

"Alex Tagliani has got some things happening with a Grand-Am car and he'd like me to team up with him and do some races," Tracy said.

"Right now, I don't have any options in an IndyCar, but there are some options to do some stuff in Grand-Am and hopefully do some Nationwide races, like the race in Canada.

"With my contract I can race other stuff, but I'd like to go IndyCar racing, and I can't get an answer out of my team.

Ei bine, primul care a avut neplacuta placere de a lovi zidul de beton a fost Graham Rahal, din fericirie insa a scapat nevatamat. Masina insa nu, si cei de la NHL au ceva probleme. Sa ne aducem aminte ca au ratat testul de la Sebring din cauza lipsei de componente pt masina. Se vad nevoiti sa repare un sasiu care din oricum nu era nou si din cate am auzit nu era in cea mai buna conditie. Incetul cu incetul toti refugiatii din CC vor avea aceasta problema.

Inseamna ca CC-ul era cu un picior in groapa dpdv financiar daca Forsythe & Kalkhoven au acceptat ca echipele din CC sa primeasca sasiuri de mana a doua din IRL si cu intarziere. Inseamna ca Tony George a avut toate atu-urile in negociere, altfel mi s-ar fi parut normal ca proprietarii CC sa obtina un tratament egal pentru echipele pe care le reprezinta.

Forsythe nu a acceptat nimic, a fost prins la colt. Nu uita, erau 4 proprietari ai CC-ului. Forsythe, Kalkhoven, Pettit, si Gentilozzi. Forsythe nu e in IRL, nici Gentilozzi, iar Pettit era P-ul din PKV Racing, devenit K(alkhoven)V(asser) Racing. din 8-9 echipe au sarit gardul 3, a patra este HVM, redenumita astfel dupa plecarea lui Stoddart cu al sau Minardi. Chiar crezi ca Forsythe nu are bani sa alerge in IRL? Din 2003 nu a mai avut un sponsor in CC, Indeck fiind compania lui, deci motivul cu lipsa sponsorilor pica. Asadar ramane simpla lipsa de interes si dispretul pentru TG. Cred ca este mai mult decat evident cine pe cine a 'lucrat' aici.

Au primit masini de mana a doua pentru ca nu exista prea multe astfel de hidosenii noi. Cei de la Dallara probabil ar fi trebuit anuntati din timp de aceasta cascadorie. Bine ca nu le-au dat Panoz-urile vechi din IRL ca se bateau intre ei pt ultimele 5 locuri.

Da, CC era cu un picior in groapa si cu celalalt in aer, dar la fel era si IRL. Nu stateau deloc bine la capitolul piloti, iar Honda se pregatea se pare sa-i lase balta. Cine le-ar fi furnizat motoare? Toyota? A plecat de mult. Chevy? La fel, si lista continua. Singura optiune ar fi fost? Cosworth, adica Kalkhoven si Forsythe. Daca mai bagau bani in CC inca un an 2 situatia ar fi fost invers, insa KK s-a plictisit si a aruncat la gunoi 4 ani de munca si multe milioane. Tot sper sa aflam de la monsieur Forsythe ce s-a intamplat exact, insa la cat il stiu de vorbaret sunt mai mari sanse sa castige Moraes Indy 500 anul acesta.

Graham Rahal Withdrawn from Homestead

Newman/Haas/Lanigan Racing has announced that the team has been forced to withdraw its No. 06 Dallara-Honda to be driven by Graham Rahal at this Saturday’s GAINSCO Auto Insurance Indy 300 at Homestead-Miami Speedway, due to accident damage sustained in Tuesday’s test.

Rahal’s car sustained extensive damage when the 19-year-old rookie driver crashed here on Tuesday night during the final day of a two-day test for teams transitioning over from the Champ Car World Series.

“In spite of the best efforts of the IndyCar Series and series suppliers, the team was unable to overcome the shortage of some key parts and the time needed to prepare for Friday’s first practice,” the team said in a press release. “The team is now focused on rebuilding the crashed car for a test at Sebring International Raceway on Tuesday, April 1 and the Honda Indy Grand Prix of St. Petersburg, April 4-6.”

“It’s disappointing that we’re not going to be racing in the season-opener and I feel bad about it,” said Rahal. “It will be tough not to be out there, but at the same time we need to take it slowly and not rush putting the car back together. Even if we had everything available, there aren’t enough hours before the first practice on Friday to get the car put back together.

“The guys have worked awfully hard to be in the position to run here and it’s not the time to pull all-nighters. At this point we are going to focus on the St. Pete race. I’m just going experience this weekend from a different perspective and pay attention to what is going on with Justin (Wilson). I’ll probably watch some of the race from the Spotters Stand to get another perspective. We’ll have to start all over for the race in Kansas which will now be my first oval race.”

Dar totusi ma intreb de ce Graham nu a fost sustinut mai bine de tatal sau Bobby, co-propietar al echipei Rahal Letterman.

Sustinut din ce punct de vedere? Banuiesc ca te referi la un posibil imprimut cu piese sau sasiu. Nu cred ca poate, Bobby avand anumite contracte cu sponsorii. De ex acestia pot pune conditia ca pilotul lor sa aibe tot timplu o masina de rezerva. Sau sa fi fost luat la el in echipa? Din nou, contractele au fost semnate cu mult inainte ca aceasta 'fuziune' sa aibe loc. Si oricum Bobby l-a lasat pe Graham sa se duca in Champ Car Atlantic si mai tarziu in CC, asadar nu cred ca era prea incantat de ideea ca fiul sau sa se invarta pe ovaluri, de unde are prea putine sanse sa ajunga in F1, unde doreste sa ajunga.

Dupa ce am vazut si eu cursa imi pot da cu parerea. In primul rand ghinion fantastic pentru Kanaan care l-a lovit pe deja rasucitul Viso cu 8 ture ramase in timp ce era lider. Cei din CC au mers cum m-am asteptat, foarte precaut, dandu-se la o parte din fata liderilor. Nu stim ce ar fi facut Wilson si Power daca nu se loveau la un restart. Moraes, sincer nu as vrea sa fiu in pielea lui, mi s-a parut depasit de situatie in unele momente, dar are timp sa invete, foarte bine ca a terminat cursa. Servia a parut extrem de sigur pe el, ceea ce era de asteptat la experienta sa. Am fost placut impresionat de Perera care a condus foarte bine, avand in vedere ca nici macar nu a vizionat o cursa pe oval pana acum.

Urmeaza saptamana aceasta cursa de la St. Petersburg, circuit stradal care a facut parte din calendarul CC in 2003, deci ma astept sa vedem o prestatie mai buna din partea noilor veniti...

IndyCar schimba sistemul de calificari, adoptand o formula asemanatoare cu cea din F1.


The IndyCar Series will introduce a Formula One-style knock-out qualifying format for road and street courses this season, beginning at St Petersburg this weekend.

The series will continue to use single-car qualifying on ovals, but will run two group sessions for 20 minutes each on Saturday afternoons, with the fastest six cars from each progressing to the next stage. The rest of the cars will line up according to their times in the group sessions.

The remaining 12 cars will enter a 15-minute session with the quicker half advancing to the Fast Six Shootout, while seventh to 12th will fill those positions on the grid in order of their times from that session.

The final six cars will then have a 10-minute session to compete for pole position.

A da era sa uit. Calificarile s-au desfasurat intr-un sistem asemanator cu cel din F1, lucuru care sa va intampla pe toate circuitele stradale si clasice. Power a avut de departe cel mai rapid timp al weekend-ului, insa nu l-a repetat in ultima mansa. Junqueira a fost si el f rapid, dar a gresit la sfaritul sesiunii provancand un steag galben, si astfel si-a pierdut cel mai rapid timp. Ar fi grozav sa avem maine pe cineva din CC pe podium.

Acum am citit o scurta cronica pe site-ul oficial, ca de vazut n-am reusit sa vad :( Superba evolutia pilotilor din CC si extraordinara victoria lui Graham Rahal la cei 19 ani si 93 de zile. Cel mai tanar pilot din istoria curselor americane de monoposturi (Open Wheel). Podiumul a fost completat de mult mai experimentatii Helio Castroneves si Tony Kanaan, in timp ce in topul cinci au urcat alti doi piloti din fostul CC, Ernesto Viso si Enrique Bernoldi. Cum ar fi aratat oare cursa si cu Paul Tracy pe acolo? Sa speram ca-si va gasi si el un volan pana la urma.

Asa da campionat! Pacat insa ca nu este transmis in Romania, doar in scurtele rezumate de pe Sport Klub.

Deci:

Graham a castigat la debutul sau in Indy Racing League. A plecat de pe 9, a urcat pana pe 3, a picat pe 23 sau 24 dupa un contact cu Will Power, a revenit si a castigat, devenind cel mai tanar pilot din istoria curselor de monoposturi din State la 19 ani si 93 de zile. Recordul anterior era tot din IRL, detinut de Marco Andretti la 19 ani si 167 de zile, in 2006. Nelson Philippe ramane cel mai tanar invingator in Champ Car la 20 de ani.

Cum a reusit Rahal sa mearga vreo 30 si ceva de tururi pe un singur set de pneuri e incredibil, combustibilul fiind si el o problema la final. Cand in ultimul (sau penultimul) tur Ryan Hunter Reay, care alerga pe pozitia a treia a ramas in pana, am stiut ca Graham va ajunge la final, deoarece a oprit cu 4 ture dupa RHR. A fost frumos sa ii vad pe cei de la NHL castigand. Dupa 4 ani in care au maturat tot in CC, credeam ca vor avea parte de o seceta teribila. Daca nu ma insel, este victoria cu numarul 106 pentru echipa infiintata in 1982 de Paul Newman si Carl Haas.

Will Power m-a dezamagit, a parut extrem de nesigur pe el, facand cateva greseli la care nu ma asteptam. Justin Wilson a mers ceas, conducand cele mai multe tururi, dar o tactica gresita l-a facut sa termine doar pe 9. Oriol Servia, ca de obicei a rulat curat, cum ne-am si astepta de la el. Locul 7, meritat. Surprizele au venit din partea lui Ernesto Viso, si Enrique Bernoldi. Viso, chiar ar fi putut castiga cursa, in ciuda unui pit stop tarziu pe care a fost nevoit sa-l faca.

6 piloti ale noilor echipelor in primii 9.

Cursa mi-a adus aminte de marile curse ale CART-ului de pe vremuri, insa mi-e teama ca mai e drum lung pana acolo. Etapele de pe ovale vor continua deocamdata sa fie parade dominate de cele 3 mari: Penske, Ganassi si AGR.

Pentru vechile echipe din IRL, urmeaza etapa de la Motegi, iar cei din CC, vor porni pentru ultima oara batranele motoare Cosworth la Long Beach pe 20 aprilie, pentru "Champ Car's Last Hurrah".

Ploaia a dat peste cap planurile organizatorilor etapei a treia a sezonului de la Motegi, cursa Indy Japan 300 fiind amanata pentru duminica dimineata. Este pentru a doua oara in istoria intrecerii nipone cand o cursa este amanata, prima data acest lucru intamplandu-se in 2000. Atunci a castigat Michael Andretti. Sa fie acum randul lui Marco ?

Fiul fostului campion mondial de F1 Jody va pilota unicul monopost al echipei Luczo Dragon Racing al carei co-propietar este nimeni altul decat Jay Penske, fiul mult mai cunoscutului Roger Penske, un nume de legenda in motorsportul american. Cu doua victorii in cariera in IRL, Schekter va lua trei starturi in acest sezon, printre care si la Indianapolis.

Te contrazic prietene Ducus. Daca tie nu-ti plac cursele astea nu inseamna ca nu exista sau ca trebuie sa se desfiinteze. Era o vreme cand CART-ul batea de departe F1 la spectacol, vorbesc de anii 90. Ca nu transmite nimeni in Romania asta iar nu inseamna ca nu ne putem uita, noi pasionatii.

Deci ce facem pana la urma, inchidem threadul si ne culcam? :D

Portland si Laguna, sunt circuite de mare traditie, dar cred ca prioritate ar trebui sa aibe Cleveland, Road America si Michigan, insa cel din urma doar dupa ce schimba aerodinamica monoposturilor..

edit: Aici nu am luat in considerare Surfer's Paradise, care zic eu, este cel mai bun circuit stradal din lume. Cursa ar trebui sa se desfasoare in toamna, dupa Chicagoland, necontand pentru campionat, insa nu vad nimic pe site.

Au ratat calificarea Roger Yasukawa, Max Papis, si Mario Dominguez. Mi-a parut foarte pentru Dominguez si PCM, care au riscat totul in ultimulele momente ale calificarii renuntand la aproape toata apasarea aerodinamica de pe spate, totul termindandu-se pana la urma cu un accident destul de urat. Timpul sau pana atunci fiind mai mult decat suficient pentru a se califica.

Dupa cum aveti placerea de a vedea lipseste Paul Tracy...

Asadar avem echipele Ganassi, Penske si AGR in fata. As merge pe mana lui Tony Kanaan, dar si oamenii lui Chip Ganassi sunt puternici. Buna clasarea lui Graham Rahal, primul reprezentant al valului CCWS. Pacat insa pentru Dominguez si Papis, chiar as fi vrut sa-l revad in actiune pe italian. Cat despre Tracy...speranta moare ultima, dar daca nu a intrat la Indianapolis am indoieli ca o va mai face in acest sezon. :(

Am vazut cursa LIVE...a fost foarte frumoasa. Iata mai jos cronica:


Un neo-zeelandez invingator la Indianapolis

A 92-a editie a celebrei curse Indy 500 alergata pe circuitul oval din Indianapolis a fost castigata in premiera de pilotul neo-zeelandez Scott Dixon, podiumul cursei fiind intregit de Vitor Meira si Marco Andretti.

Plecat din prima pozitie a grilei de start, Dixon s-a aflat la conducerea cursei mare parte din timp, reusind sa transeze in favoarea sa duelurile cu Dan Wheldon, Tony Kanaan, Marco Andretti sau Vitor Meira. Cu o evolutie constanta de la inceput si pana la sfarsitul celor 200 de mile programate pe ovalul din Indianapolis, Dixon a adus a treia victorie in Indy 500 pentru echipa condusa de Chip Ganassi.

Aflati pe primele doua locuri la start, pilotii echipei Target Ganassi au dictat ritmul in prima jumatate a cursei, Wheldon si Dixon conducand intrecerea de o maniera categorica.

Brazilianul Tony Kannan de la Andretti Green Racing a urcat la conducere la intrarea in a doua jumatate a celor 500 de mile, cu tanarul sau coechipier Marco Andretii urcand pe locul trei. Aventura lui Kanaan in editia din 2008 a cursei de la Indianapolis a luat sfarsit in turul 107, cand a fost acrosat in plin de Sarah Fisher, ambii fiind nevoiti sa abandoneze.

Dupa locul secund obtinut in 2006 cand a alergat in premiera in templul vitezei din Statele Unite, Marco Andretti a bifat al treilea start la Indianapolis urcand la conducere in turul 122, cu Dixon si sud-africanul Tomas Scheckter pe urmele sale.

Accidentul petrecut pe linia boxelor intre Ryan Briscoe si Danica Patrick a dus la o ultima neutralizare care s-a dovedit decisiva in economia cursei. Ultimele 29 de tururi s-au alergat cu gazul deschis la maxim, pentru victorie duelandu-se Scott Dixon, Vitor Meira, Helio Catroneves si Marco Andretti.

In cele din urma Dixon a trecut invingator linia de sosire cu un avans de 1.7 secunde in fata lui Meira, ultima treapta a podiumului revenindu-i lui Marco Andretti. Fost dublu invingator in Indy 500, Helio Castroneves a ocupat in final locul patru, cu americanii Ed Carpenter si Ryan Hunter-Reay completand topul sase.

Mi-a parut rau de Tomas Scheckter. Daca nu abandona cred ca avea sanse reale la podium. Bun locul doi al lui Meira, surprinzator chiar, si de remarcat forcingul de final al lui Helio, care dupa ce a stat in pluton trei sferturi din cursa a incercat marea cu degetul pe final.

Cam exagerata zic eu Danica. A fost pana la urma un incident de cursa si nimic mai mult. Briscoe a accelerat prea tare la iesirea din standuri si a pierdut spatele. Mi s-a parut un pic de circ acolo...

Au fost cateva lucruri care m-au deranjat. In primul rand enorm de lungi perioadele de neutralizare. 15 (cred) ture pentru a lua de pe circuit oglinda lui Bruno (da domnule comentator a fost o oglinda nu un obiect de racire). Danica ca de obicei s-a purtat ca o mofturoasa. Briscoe trebuia sa o vada pe ea, dar ea nu a putut vedea un mecanic acum cateva saptamani cand l-a luat cu tot cu fulgi. Acelasi comentator a exagerat spunand ca printeas are tot dreptul sa arunce cu casca catre Briscoe. Si Kanaan ar fi trebuit atunci sa o ia la pumni pe Fisher, probabil. Deasemnea m-a pufnit rasul cand comentatorul a spus ca Paul di Resta a catigat Indy. N-avea de unde sa stie ca era vorba de Dario Resta in 1916.

Am vrut sa castige Dixon, dar imi pare rau de Scheckter si Meira. Ar fi meritat amandoi o victorie.

Apropo de comentator Pending, am remarcat si eu mai multe erori dar una a tot fost repetata aproape obsedant. Reiau cu aproximatie din memorie: "Marco s-a clasat in 2006 pe locul doi fiind invins de tatal sau Michael". Istoria ne spune altceva, ca Michael Andretti nu a castigat niciodata Indy 500 si ca in 2006 intr-adevar Marco a terminat pe doi, dar in fata tatalui sau, care a incheiat podiumul. :rosu:

Si am mai sesizat cum o lua in brate pe 'printesa', ca pe Duno sa o faca cu ou si cu otet :rosu:

Una peste alta o cursa frumoasa, pilotii KV Oriol Servia si Will Power fiind cei mai bine clasati reprezentanti ai fostul CCWS.

Nu stiam de acest Dario Resta, dar nici nu l-am crezut nicio secunda pe comentator cand a zis de Paul di Resta, ca totusi din 96 incoace (de cand urmaresc eu fenomenul) nu am gasit nici urma de el in IRL sau la Indianapolis :D

Am citit ca Tony Kanaan l-ar fi acuzat destul de virulent pe Marco Andretti pentru incidentul cu Sarah Fisher. Marco a recunoscut ca a intrat cam tare la interior. Eu am vazut pe reluare doar cand Kanaan luase o directie ciudata spre zidul de beton, dar nu cred ca manevra lui Marco sa-l intimideze in asa hal.

Ce spui, pe Milwaukee Mile pilotii din CCWS vor avea o sansa?

La victorie nu cred. Ramane de vazut daca vor avea rezultate mai bune, cativa in primii 10 de ex. Este un oval mic unde traficul va fi o problema, deci va fi envoie de experienta pe astfel de circuite. Servia si Junqueira vor fi probabil cei mai buni.

Ryan Briscoe a obtinut prima sa victorie in Indy Cardupa ce a reusit sa-l tina in spate pe Dixon. Cursa s-a terminat sub steag galben dupa ce Marco Andretti a fost (din nou) prea optimist la o depasire asupra lui Carpenter implicandu-l si pe Meira.

Servia pe 6 dupa ce a avut probleme la inceput, iar Justin pe 7 dupa ce a plecat de pe 22. Continui sa fiu impresionat de Viso, care face ce face si termina cursele din ce in ce mai bine.

Intr-adevar circuitul de la Fort Worth este unul fabulos, un Super Speedway adevarat. Imi amintesc ca atunci Michael Andretti a luat cuvantul din partea pilotilor explicand decizia de a renunta la aceasta cursa.

Foarte bune clasarile lui Power si Servia, doi piloti cu mare talent si experienta, care la anul sunt convins ca vor reusi sa se dueleze de la egal la egal cu 'veteranii' IRL. Personal ma asteptam la mai mult din partea lui Justin Wilson.

TMS a fost construit pentru Nascar. Este mult prea inclinat si prea rapid pentru "open-wheelers". Nu se pune problema ca cineva sa lesine, masinile din IRL au fost intotdeauna mai lente ca cele din Champ Car. Brack a obtinut pole-ul in 2001 cu o viteza medie de 375 km\h. Daca se tinea acea cursa si lesina cineva in timpul cursei ar fi fost rau de tot. In materie de superspeedways Indy, Michigan si Fontana sunt de departe cele mai potrivite. Faptul ca ultimele doua lipsesc arata starea in care se afla momentan acest sport.

Despre Paul Tracy acum: PT a testat pentru o echipa din Nascar Craftsman Truck Series. Intr-un interviu recent a mai zis odata ca nu are de gand sa concureze pentru o echipa....mai slaba. Se pare ca au existat asemenea oferte. In aceste conditii nu cred ca-l vom vedea prea curand in IRL.

Marco Andretti, Graham Rahal si AJ Foyt IV reprezinta trei familii cu greutate in motorsportul american. Iata mai jos o interesanta poveste a celor trei:


Andretti, in his third season in the IndyCar Series, is the son of Michael Andretti, the winningest driver in CART history, and the grandson of Mario Andretti, the 1978 world champion. Marco drives for the Andretti Green Racing team co-owned by his father.

Foyt is the grandson of four-time Indianapolis 500 winner A.J. Foyt. In his fifth season in the IndyCar Series, Foyt spent the first three driving for his grandfather's team before moving to Vision Racing.

Rahal is a rookie in the IndyCar Series, driving for Newman/Haas/Lanigan Racing. His father, 1986 Indianapolis 500 winner Bobby Rahal, co-owns a competing team in the series, Rahal Letterman Racing.

All have grown up with added scrutiny due to their famous last names, but each relishes the opportunity to make their own mark in history.

"I think we all kind of feel the same amount of pressure," said Foyt, who has 10 top-10 finishes in his career. "We all have a lot to live up to. I think it's a little bit less pressure now that I'm driving for another team."

Rahal eased some of that pressure with his first career victory in April at St. Petersburg.

"After St. Pete, it takes quite a lot of pressure off," said Rahal, 19, who became the youngest race winner in IndyCar Series history. "Because a lot of people say, 'You're with a great team, but maybe you got out there because of your name.' And until you win, I think the question is always there. The question will always remain, though. Until I'm more successful than dad, I don't think I'll ever stop hearing about it. The problem is dad was obviously very successful, so it's going to be pretty tough to do that."

Any pressure comes from external sources. As a family, the Rahals don't always talk about racing.

"When we're home, we try to be the type that it's just a family and not talk too much about racing," Rahal said. "If we do go to lunch or something, racing might be the topic for a while but usually something else comes up to get off on a different tangent.

"Golf has always been a huge part of my life. As a kid, with dad, it still is, it's something we enjoy doing together and we do quite a lot."

As Father's Day approaches, these young drivers are thankful for their heritage and the racing lifestyle they can share with their fathers and grandfathers every race weekend.

într-o primă fază a intrat la "boxe" - a greșit locul :D ... a parcat în locul altui pilot :D
în a 2 fază ... mecanicii lui nu au fost gata cu schimbul "nasului" și l-au mai trimis un tur la plimbare ... :D ... probabil mecanicii au vrut să-l ajute pe Briscoe să-și învețe bine locul unde trebuie să vină la "boxe" ... :D

toate estea după ce era să primească bătaie de la donșoara Patrick pt că a scos-o din cursă :D

"I am getting more confident on the short ovals and the Motorola team had a great test this week, so we are going to use that momentum going into this weekend in Iowa," Patrick said of the 0.894-mile track that will host the Iowa Corn Indy 250 presented by Pioneer on June 22.

The co-owner of one of the top teams in NASCAR's Craftsman Truck Series has hired Paul Tracy to run later this season but the 2003 CART champion still can't get a ride in an Indy car.

However, Derrick Walker is trying to make it happen (with a little help from Tony George) for next month's inaugural IRL show at Edmonton.

"Paul wants to do it, Tony wants to do it and I want to do it so now we're trying to make it happen," said Walker, whose longtime open wheel operation has been idle since the Champ Car finale at Long Beach last April.

"I've got a couple people in Canada up there pitching for us with about a dozen companies so hopefully we can come up with something in the next week or so."

George, responding by email Wednesday night from Las Vegas, said he had a car available and would be willing to help get Canada's favorite son into it.

"I definitely want to run Edmonton but right now it seems like there's more interest from NASCAR than the IRL, so I'm hoping Derrick can put something together," said Tracy, who will drive the Germain Racing Toyota on Sept. 20 at Las Vegas.

"I think I could help sell tickets and promote that race."

Edmonton promoter Jim Haskins is all for it.

"It would be great for our event and Paul deserves to be in a unified series, as does Tags (Alex Tagliani)," said Haskins. "They've both been good ambassadors for our races in the past.

Tracy's lone appearance this year was also at Long Beach, driving in what appears to be his final race for Gerald Forsythe. The 39-year-old veteran has a contract with Forsythe, who declined to move his team to the IRL following last winter's unification.

A few weeks ago, P.T. tested Todd Bodine's truck at Chicagoland Speedway and impressed Bob Germain enough to get a one-off deal.

"Paul did a nice job so we got a little bit if support and decided it would be fun to run him in his hometown," said Germain, who along with his two brothers owns 19 car dealerships in Ohio and Florida.

"He's our style, very aggressive, and he and Todd are a lot alike."

Tracy, who had a few rides in the old Busch series with mixed results, looks at his truck debut as something bigger.

"I figure it's an audition for 2009 with those guys, because I think Todd wants to go to the Nationwide series," said Tracy.

Currently, Germain runs Mike Wallace in the Nationwide series, plus Justin Marks and Bodine in the trucks (along with Chrissie Wallace, Mike's daughter, in selected events), and may be looking to expand.

"We're going to run Chrissie full-time in the trucks next year and we've got another year for sure with Mike (sponsored by Geico)," said Germain. "I know Todd would like to run the Nationwide series and we've got about a dozen different possibilities we'll be looking at.

"And running Paul full-time in the trucks is one of those."

"I've decided to keep the team at our headquarters in California to re-evaluate and strengthen our program," he said. "We are committed to the IndyCar Series through 2009 and this has always been our building year.

Faptul ca nu s-au calificat la Indy a adus mari probleme financiare echipei. Cu ce echipament au avut era aproape imposibil sa se claseze in primii 20. Imi pare rau si pentru PCM si pentru Mario.

Personal ma asteptam ca sponsorii mexicani sa-si doreasca mai mult o reprezentare in IndyCar, tinand cont de performantele obtinute in anii 90 de un Adrian Fernandez sau Michel Jourdain Jr in CART. Cand spun performante ma refer evident la clasari bune, Fernandez reusind chiar si cateva victorii. Daca nu ma insel Fernandez chiar a fost ownerul unei echipe in IRL prin 2003-2004, era ceva in copropietate, apoi s-a retras.

Din cursele de monoposturi ma refeream. Pai ar putea organiza la Mexico City sau chiar Puebla, unde au alergat si cei din WTCC acum 1-2 sezoane. Oricum, cred ca pentru la anul vom avea un calendar mult schimbat si de ce nu, ar putea sa apara si o cursa mexicana. Acum depinde si de interesele financiare ale lui Tony George in zona.

Pana sa ne gandim la o cursa mexicana insa cred ca mai degraba ar reveni Portland sau Laguna Seca, doua circuite de mare traditie si cu un desen extraordinar.

Clar Long Beach, Toronto, Edmonton si Surfers vor intra. Se mai 'negociaza' cu cei din Cleveland. Din pacate nu prea cred ca Portland si Laguna vor reveni. Si nici Road America, ceea ce e mare pacat.

Victorie pentru Dan Wheldon la Iowa, pilotul echipei Target Ganassi reusind sa se impuna in fata tinerilor Hideki Mutoh si Marco Andretti, ambii de la echipa Andretti Green Racing. Iata ce a declarat la final invingatorul:


"We saved fuel for a little bit at the end," Wheldon explained. "The team knew I was having trouble on restarts, so they really worked hard at giving me time to heat my tyres up. That certainly worked. The more laps I did (on a set of tyres), the better it was for me.

"When they told me to stay out, I looked up and said, 'Thank you, God.' I was just incredibly loose. I don't know why it was so bad, but you could see from the next few restarts on tyres that were not slightly worn, it was great. The car was very comfortable."

"It looked to be a pretty big accident just from the debris," Wheldon said. "I knew if I saved as much fuel as I could at that point that we would be OK. Actually the team told me that, but they wanted to make sure we had some spare fuel. I don't think they wanted to cut it too close."

Sa speram ca pentru spectacol si concurenta va mai intra cel putin un motorist. Ma gandesc in primul rand la Cosworth si de ce nu chiar Audi sau BMW. Imi amintesc ca in anii 90 Mercedes-Benz oferea unul dintre cele mai puternice motoare de pe grila CART-ului.

Britanicul Jay Howard, campionul Indy Lights, va reveni in cadrul echipei Roth Racing pentru ultimele curse ale sezonului, dupa ce a fost inlocuit la Indianapolis si urmatoarele intreceri de veteranul american John Andretti.


"To say I'm happy to get back in the car is an understatement," said Howard. "It's hard to describe the feeling when I'm on the sidelines watching.

"I'm only looking forward now and I'm going to go out and do what I do best and try to get a good result for the team."

"My background is on what I would call permanent tracks," he said. "I'd never seen a street course or an oval before 2006, so it's going to be a bit more like being at home for me."

Ramas fara sponsori si masina in Nascar, scotianul Dario Franchitti ar putea reveni in IndyCar, lucru care personal m-ar bucura :)


In an interview with XM Satellite Radio in the US, Sabates said the decision to continue pursuing a stock car career in the Nationwide Series, or to return to the IndyCar Series, rests with Franchitti himself.

"Chip pretty much told him if he wanted to go to back to Indy that, because it doesn't cost nearly as much money there as it does here (in NASCAR), and over there Chip is the Rick Hendrick of here, so he can get a sponsor for an IndyCar very easily," said Sabates.

"So he's got his choice. If he wants to drive the Nationwide car to get some more experience and maybe we'll get a sponsor for next year, or whether he wants to go back to the IRL, is up to Dario - he has a contract and we intend to honour it."

Sabates also said that the team had run Franchitti in the Sprint Cup this season from their own resources and blamed losing former sponsor Coors at the end of last year for the difficult situation they found themselves in this season.

Unificarea IRL-CCWS se pare ca a produs un adevarat boom pe piata americana de profil, existand o crestere semnificativa a audientelor TV, a spectatorilor prezenti la curse si a banilor veniti din partea sponsorilor. Iata mai jos un interesant material despre semnificatiile formarii noului IndyCar, dar si parerea majoritatii pilotilor implicati. Daca retorica generala este ca in 2008 avem de-a face un sezon de tranzitie, pentru 2009 se pare ca vom urmari unul dintre cele mai tari sezoane din istoria curselor americane de monoposturi.


1. Unification produces strong first half of season commercially: The IndyCar Series opens the second-half its 2008 season this weekend at Watkins Glen International, and after four months and nine races, the unification of open-wheel racing under the IndyCar Series banner is a success both on and off the track.

By all accounts and measurements, the on-track product featuring an average 26 cars per week has been a success and could reach 29 at select races later in the season.

Off-track the IndyCar Series continues to show business momentum.

"We could not be happier with what we have seen over the first half of the unified IndyCar Series season," said Terry Angstadt, president of the commercial division of the Indy Racing League, the sanctioning body for the IndyCar Series and Firestone Indy Lights. "Key areas like attendance, ratings and sponsorship are all pointed in the right direction, and we anticipate further growth and momentum headed into the second half of the season."

With attendance, league officials are impressed with what they have seen everywhere the schedule has stopped to date in 2008. Tracks have reported increased attendance numbers, and the in-market and at-track "vibe" has been noticeable. Reports from tracks on the second-half of the schedule have been even more positive.

Since unification, the series has introduced a number of new sponsors including DIRECTV and Coca-Cola, and this weekend at Watkins Glen the league will formalize a new partnership with IZOD. Efforts to secure category sponsorships and entitlement of the IndyCar Series are in full swing. The league's sales efforts have increased dramatically and now include an individual whose sole responsibility is working directly with teams to assist in their efforts.

IndyCar Series races have shown ratings increases in six of nine races to date, and ratings are up across the board on ABC (+4 percent), ESPN (+61 percent) and ESPN2 (+42 percent). Overall viewership is up 17 percent season to date compared to 2007.

Merchandise sales are way up with at-track sales increasing by 70 percent compared to 2007.

"Unification has been wonderful for the sport, and there's a real buzz around the IndyCar Series," said Angstadt. "Our focus now is to continue to work hard and build a broader sponsorship base for the teams, venues, media and the league."

JUSTIN WILSON: "It's great. We've got everyone back together and we've got everyone working in the same direction. It's great to race every weekend, especially if you have a bad weekend you don't get a chance to dwell on it."

ED CARPENTER: "I think it's awesome. Everywhere we go, it's super competitive and there is a lot of good racing. It's a better series for everyone now."

WILL POWER: "I think what's good about this is you've got the best teams and best drivers all in one series."

BUDDY RICE: "It's been great. You can see by the number of people showing up that's it great for the sport, the teams and the sponsors. I'm glad to be a part of it."

HIDEKI MUTOH: "The good news is there is very high competition. It's the highest championship in America, so that's good."

MARTY ROTH: "I love the unification." I'm a Canadian and we don't have to explain the differences between Champ Car and the IndyCar Series anymore. I love it."

Transitioning from Champ Car World Series to the IndyCar Series:

ORIOL SERVIA: "Every race we are just trying our best. Some races come out better than others. I'm quite happy. We are still trying very hard to catch up with the other guys."

MARIO MORAES: "It's quite tough for me. I'm working out a lot."



BRUNO JUNQUEIRA: "It's been good and difficult. It has been a big challenge for us. We're getting better every race."

Thoughts on the season up to now and any "surprises" of the season:

WILL POWER: "This year our strengths are on the road courses, but we're catching up on the ovals. We seem to be running more competitively. I think the second half of the season will be good for us."

ED CARPENTER: "Graham Rahal is obviously going to be a very good driver. Hideki Mutoh is coming out strong as a rookie, but he's with a great team."

RYAN BRISCOE: "I'm pretty happy. My goal has been from the start to be in the top five consistently. It's tough. It's so competitive; it's difficult to be in the top five every race. We recovered well from a couple of non-finishes early in the season. Now, we've got to keep the momentum going, keep racing at the front."

DANICA PATRICK: "It's been challenging, not as good as I expected. I think it would've looked a little bit better if I would have had the finishes at Kansas and Indy. I think they both would have both been top-fives."

VITOR MEIRA: "So far we have done very well. We came from a very difficult year last year. The Delphi National Guard car really stepped up this year, mostly from Indianapolis on."

MARCO ANDRETTI: "It's been up and down, but we've been able to be in the top five every time we've finished. Maybe a bit snake-bitten, but we've got to keep working."

A.J. FOYT IV: "The start of it was good and then we hit a couple rough spots. We're starting to turn it around with a top-five (finish) at Iowa."

TONY KANAAN: "There have been a lot of ups and downs this season, people trying to tear down our team, but we sat down and we're working well together. This is a good team effort."

MARTY ROTH: "I've had a horrible season, but that's the way it goes sometimes. Starting up a new team, you don't think it plays on you, you think you can clear your head and just drive, but it wears on you a little bit. We've been doing a lot of tapping the walls lately. Hopefully we've climbed over that hump."

Aiurea. Nici rating-urile nici numarul spectatorilor nu s-a marit. Nu puteai gasi pe site-ul oficial ceva negativ, nu? Vedem cum o sa fie Edmonton comparativ cu Champ Car anii trecuti. Sponsorii tot nu sar cu banii. Dovada cea mai clara e masina lui Graham. McDonald's trebuia sa sponsorizeze ambele masini NHL, dupa unificare au ramas numai cu Justin. E normal ca toata lumea sa zica numai lucruri bune despre partid. Uite-te la Paul Tracy care ani de zile a vorbit IRL-ul numai de rau si acum a ramas pe dinafara. Faptul ca o sa-l puna probabil intr-o masina pentru Edmonton e irelevant, doar nu se duc in Canada fara PT.

Pending, in ce am spus mai sus am pastrat sub titlu de rezerva cele aparute pe site-ul oficial, motiv pentru care am zis 'se pare'. Nu stau acolo, n-am participat la curse, deci nu ma pot pronunta. Dar de un lucru sunt sigur: daca IndyCar va deveni un campionat puternic in cativa ani, de talia CART-ului anilor 90 nu putem decat sa ne bucuram.

Da, speram ca va deveni. Insa pentru asta trebuie sa urmeze cativa pasi foarte simpli. Cel mai important este sa schimbe sasiurile si motoarele. Apoi sa renunte la unele circuite pe care le au in calendar. Richmond si Iowa sunt absolut groaznice pentru cursele de monoposturi. La fel si Texas, dar avand in vedere numarul de spectatori pe care il aduna an de an acolo, va ramane. Cleveland, Road America, Laguna sunt mai mult decat necesare. La fel si Michigan si Fontana. Si bineinteles sa nu se mai 'tranteasca' cursele (vezi Danica la Motegi)

Australianul Ryan Briscoe va pleca din pole position in cursa de la Watkins Glen, reusind pentru a doua oara in cariera sa ocupe prima pozitie in calificarile unei curse din IndyCar. Pilotul echipei Penske va fi urmat in prima linie de britanicul Justin Wilson, pe urmatoarele locuri clasandu-se Ryan Hunter-Reay, Scott Dixon, Oriol Servia, Tony Kanaan, Marco Andretti, Darren Manning, Dan Wheldon si Vitor Meira.

Graham Rahal, invingatorul de la St.Petersburg, a ocupat un modest loc 18, in timp ce Helio Castroneves, de trei ori clasat in pole la Watkins Glen, va pleca ultimul.

Cursa de la Watkins Glen se va desfasura duminica seara cu incepere de la ora 22:30 (ora Romaniei).

HUNTER-REAY CASTIGATOR LA WATKINS GLEN

Pilotul american Ryan Hunter-Reay si-a trecut in cont, duminica, cea dintai victorie in INDYCAR, castigand cu sansa intrecerea de la Watkins Glen. Unicul reprezentant al echipei Rahal/Letterman a profitat de acrosajul stupid dintre primii doi clasati, Scott Dixon si Ryan Briscoe, urcand la conducere in finalul intrecerii dupa ce majoritatea timpului a concurat pe pozitia a treia. In aceste conditii pe locul secund a incheiat englezul Darren Manning de la echipa lui AJ Foyt, podiumul fiind completat de brazilianul Tony Kanaan de la Andretti Green.

Clasari foarte bune pentru cei doi piloti Dale Coyne, Bruno Junqueira si Mario Moraes incheind pe locurile sase, si respectiv sapte. De notat si locul 13 obtinut de mexicanul Mario Dominguez, revenit in campionat alaturi de echipa Pacific Coast.


"For something to finally go our way is great," Hunter-Reay said. "It didn't land in our lap; we had to go out there and earn it. Then we just checked out at the end, which was the best. We put an exclamation on the end of that one. It was a beautiful deal."

"It was like a scene out of Days of Thunder," Hunter-Reay said. "I couldn't see where they were or where the opening was. I couldn't see any cars, just a dirt cloud. I picked left, and luckily it was open. I got through there, and then I immediately thought, 'This is the point where I get paid back for all the bad luck.'"

IRL continua sa fie o gluma proasta. Departe de ce a fost Champ Car, sa nu mai vorbim de CART. O groaza de piloti care nu au ce cauta la volanul unor astfel de masini. Danica Patrick, nemultumita de faptul ca a bagat in spital un membru al echipei Dale Coyne la Indy, s-a gandit sa-i mature pe cei de la Ganassi. Aproape ca a reusit. Milka Duno si Foyt 4 ne-au aratat ca poate fi o provocare ca conduci si sub Safety Car. Pe Dixon il iertam. In orice alt campionat din lumea asta Danica sau Andretti ar fi fost scosi pe tusa dupa tot ce au facut in ultimele curse. Ma pot consola doar cu rezultatul celor de la Dale Coyne.

Dar hei, bine ca exista un singur campionat, fie el si de amatori.

Greseli vor exista intotdeauna si oriunde. Pai numai daca ma gandesc la cate rasuciri pe pista am vazut la Silverstone ma apuca durerea de cap (doar la Massa am numarat vreo 4 sau 5) si e pilot cu pretentii la titlul mondial totusi.

E adevarat ca unii piloti din IndyCar sunt acolo pentru sponsorii pe care ii au in spate, cum se spunea pe timpuri in F1 de 'pilotii cu valiza', dar sa stii ca nici CCWS in ultimii ani daca nu era Bourdais, Tracy, Tagliani nu prea insemna nimic la ce nume aparusera si acolo. Sa avem totusi rabdare fiind un sezon de tranzitie. :ok:

Da, dar majoritatea pilotilor cu valiza din Champ Car erau piltoti telentati. Nelson Philipe si chiar Tristan Gommendy sau Jan Heylen de ex, iar cand greseau erau pusi la punct de Cotman. Vezi Dan Clarke la Zolder anul trecut. La fel si in F1, Marele Yuji Ide fiind ultimul exemplu. La SIlverstone a fost ploaie torentiala, nu se pune. Massa ar fi un campion, daca toate etapele s-ar desfasura pe uscat si cu tractiune controlata. Altfel este o gluma proasta si el. Greseli normal ca vor exista, dar nu 4 abandonuri sub Safety Car, hai sa fim seriosi. Cat despre Danica, este al patrulea sau al cincelea incident pe care il are la boxe in acest sezon. Daca nu se schimba ceva, IRL-ul nu va fi luat nicioadata in serios. Gandeste-te cati piloti in IRL au ajuns fie in GP2 fie in F1? Acum, cati din CC? Cat timp nu vor lua masuri Indy Racing League va ramane Irrelevant Racing League in lumea sporturilor cu motor. Tracy a zis ca vrea o masina competitiva si vrea sa fie platit. A cerut mai putin de jumatate decat primea la Forsythe. Trebuie sa ne gadim ca sunt foarte multe cheltuieli pe care si pilotul trebuie sa le suporte. De exemplu doar asigurarea medicala pentru un weekend de cursa ajunge pe la $12500. Desigur nu sunt o problema banii acestia pentru Tracy, dar de ce sa ii scoata din buzunarul lui? Nu e un pilot tanar care cauta sa se afirme. Mai mult decat atat, un eventual esec rasunator ar putea avea consecinte neplacute pentru ce a mai ramas din cariera lui PT.

Mai nou se pare ca si Alex Tagliani a primit ceva oferte de la unele echipe care cauta un pilot cu experienta.

Indy Lights de acum are la fel de multe in comun cu cel de atunci cum are IRL cu CART.

Paul Tracy va lua startul doar la Edmonton. Ce se va intampla dupa aceea nimeni nu stie. Ramane de vauzt ce vor decide sponsorul sau din aceasta cursa, si Tony George, care dupa cate am inteles din balbele sale din conferinta de presa, nu e prea convins de continuitate.

Forsythe Racing are close to finalising IRL IndyCar Series and American Le Mans Series programmes for 2009, according to team manager Ken Swieck.

The team have remained active in the Atlantic Series this year after deciding that they had insufficient funding to join the merged IndyCar Series from Champ Car, but recently revealed that they will join the Indy Lights championship next season.

Swieck was much in evident at this weekend's Mid-Ohio event in the IndyCar, ALMS and Lights paddocks, and made it clear that Forsythe's 2009 ambitions are not limited to the junior categories.

"We've got a Formula Atlantic deal this year and we're planning on going ahead with that, we announced the Indy Lights programme last week and we're looking at both ALMS and the IndyCar Series," he said.

"I'd say the ALMS and IndyCar programmes are about 95 percent done."

Swieck confirmed that Forsythe intended to contest both series rather than choosing one or the other.

Milka Duno cel putin n-are nicio treaba cu fenomenul curselor. Orice am spune si oricat am vrea sa ne tinem in frau sentimentele, aceste prezente in Indy, Legge in CCWS si acum in DTM, sau Vanina Ickx la Le Mans demonstreaza totusi ca lumea curselor nu este un taram foarte prielnic doamnelor si domnisoarelor.

Milka e clar ca nu are ce cauta acolo. cat despre Katherine... a castigat totusi 3 curse in Champ Car Atlantics. A fost cu 2 echipe slabe in CC. PKV, trebuie sa recunoastem a fost o echipa dezorganizata. Daca Servia nu putea face mare lucru ce putea face Katherine? La Dale Coyne toate resursele erau folosite pentru Bruno Junqueira, iar in DTM are un Audi vechi de 2 ani.

Danica Patrick pe de alta parte, nu a castigat nimic in cariera, (ok, ok a castigat la Motegi), si are o masina cu care ar trebui sa se lupte pentru titlu. Sa-l puna pe Junqueira, Power sau Servia acolo si AGR ar avea rezultate imediat. Problema e ca acestia nu au pozat in costume de baie.

Edit: Nu spun ca Danica nu are pic de talent, spun ca nu are ce cauta la nivelul la care este. Daca ar nu ar fi fost fata acum s-ar fi zbatut intr-un capionat regional de Nascar.

Will Power si Oriol Servia conduc dupa prima zi de antrenamente de la Edmonton. 6 fosti Piloti Champ Car in primii 10. Paul Tracy pe 8, a facut o treaba buna, zic eu avand in vedere ca nu cunoaste masina , si nu a mai condus din aprilie de la Long Beach. Intr-o comparatie directa, Panoz-urile au fost cu 3 secunde pe tur mai rapide anul tercut in prima zi, decat Dallara lui Power.

Intr-adevar experienta pilotilor din ChampCar isi spune inca o data cuvantul, dar sa nu uitam ca Helio Castroneves, Tony Kanaan sau chiar si Scott Dixon au concurat in ultimii ani ai CART-ului si astfel au destule referinte despre cursele stradale. Intr-adevar bun Tracy, dar pentru mine surpriza ramane Briscoe. Cred ca la el conteaza cursele adunate in ALMS.

Pilotii din CC au un plus pentru ca stiu circuitul. Briscoe nu uita ca a fost pilot de teste pentru Toyota in F1, deci el este ceea ce americanii numesc 'a real road racer'. Cred ca aici avem cea mai mare sansa de a vedea din nou un fost pilot CC castigand. Power, Servia si Wilson, care a triumfat aici in 2005 sunt favoriti. Tracy trebuie sa mearga bine, pentru a continua si pe viitor.

Echipele au probleme financiare extrem de mari. Daca Newman Haas nu sunt in stare sa gaseasca un sponsor serios pentru Graham Rahal inseamna ca e grav. Am citit undeva ca multe echipe de top sunt extrem de nemultumite de modul in care este condus campionatul. Echipele mici sunt nemultumite de echipamentele de mana doua pe care le au. Sponsorii sunt nemultumiti din cauza rating-urilor si numarului chiar mai mic de spectatori pe unele circuite. Asteptarile au fost prea mari, iar deciziile proaste. De la anul sunt mari sanse ca KV Racing sa se reduca la o singura masina (in cel mai bun caz). Aussie Vineyards vor renunta fara cursa de la Surfers. Iar un mare talent ca Will Power va ramane pe dinafara.

Gandeste-te ce probleme au echipele care abia puteau sta in picioare in Champ Car unde un monopost Panoz complet echipat costa undeva pe la 275 000 de dolari. O Dallara costa aproape 1 milion!!!! 1 mil pentru ce?? O masina mai lenta, mai urata si mai rudimentara. Iar un accident pe oval inseamna aproape intotdeauna inca un milion.

Plictisindu-ma si murind de cald am cautat pe net tot felul de articole in legatura cu Paul Tracy si 'debutul' sau de la Edmonton. Iata ce am gasit: Se pare ca fosta sa echipa, Forsythe Championship Racing a pariat ca PT se va face de ras. Acum ne cam dam seama cat de organizata a fost echipa lui Gerry Forsythe in ultimii ani.


Tracy's former team bets against him

Edmonton -- It only took one day back in the cockpit for Paul Tracy to get angry at someone, but, in his defence, he was clearly provoked.

Apparently, some of his former Forsythe Championship racing crew bet Tracy's new team that the 2003 Champ Car champion would be a bust in his Indy Racing League debut.

"They made bets against me that I wouldn't break the top-20 all weekend because they think the problem at Forsythe was me and not the team," said Tracy, who signed a one-race dead with Vision racing to compete in Edmonton this weekend.

"They bet some people on my team that we would be lost all weekend and not competitive. In practice, the cars they were running were in the 20s and we were in the top six or seven, so it was nice to rub some salt in their wounds."

Tracy earned his team members some extra bucks by putting his car seventh in Thursday's first practice session for today's Rexall Edmonton Indy. The veteran from Toronto struggled through his last Champ Car season with Forsythe and ended 2007 in 11th place in the points standing.

While the Forsythe did not join the IRL, the outfit is offering technical expertise to existing teams through a newly formed consulting business. Although he made his former team eat their words, the same can't be said of his aching body, which hasn't fared well so far.

"Obviously, it is going to be a grind and a test for everyone here," he said. "I am not in the best shape I've even been in, but I am not out of shape, either.

"I have some bumps and bruises and wear spots on the body that get calloused as you drive through a season, so I'm rubbing the skin through to the bone, but that's the nature of this track."

Tony Kannaan si-a prelungit contracul cu AGR pe inca 5 ani, refunzand oferta lui Chip Ganassi. E o miscare proasta, zici eu Se stie ca TK este nemultumit de cum merg cei de la AGR, unde Danica este superstarul, iar Marco fiul lui Michael, care va fi tot timpul favorizat, asta in conditiile in care Kanaan este un pilot mult mai talentat decat cei doi..

Justin Wilson a 'castigat' cursa de la Detroit. 'Castigat' pentru ca a Helio Castroneves a fost penalizat pe nedrept cu cateva ture inainte de final pentru ca l-ar fi blocat pe Justin. Nici vorba de asa ceva, si oricum, prima oara se da un avertisment. Imi place de Justin, e un tip grozav, la fel si echipa sa, merita sa castige, dar nu asa. A fost un cadou din partea oficialilor pentru Paul Newman. Un gest frumos, dar care nu isi are locul. Helio a pierdut probabil campionatul aici. Ce mai putem spune? Mie imi e dor de Champ Car.

Asta ar fi cam a doua decizie controversata (cel putin) intr-un sezon denumit 'de tranzitie'. Detroit imi aminteste de o cursa nebuna din anii 90, cred ca 97 sau 98 (nu mai retin exact). Cei doi echipieri de la Pac West Racing, Mauricio Gugelmin si Marc Blundell, au condus pana spre final si au abandonat dramatic, pe rand, in ultimele tururi. A fost o cursa memorabila, transmisa la vremea respectiva de Eurosport.

P.S. Si mie imi e doar de acel CART, curse adevarate, cele mai adevarate din tot motorsportul mondial.

In 1997. Big Mo si Blundell au ramas fara combustibil in ultimul tur. Blundell, chiar in ultimele 2 viraje. Marele Greg Moore avea sa castige acea cursa. Blundell s-a razbunat o saptamana mai tarziu si castigat la Portland prima sa victorie, prin ceea ce a ramas cel mai strans finish din istoria CART-ului.

Anii 90 din CART au fost cei mai frumosi din intregul motorsport si nu sunt singurul care spune asta. Perioada din 1993-2001 nu va fi egalata de nici un campionat. Erau peste Formula 1 ca audienta si po****ritate. Campionul in exercitiu din F1, Mansell, a facut trecerea, Ayrton Senna a fost la un pas sa o faca, Nelson Piquet a incercat. Mai erau Emerson Fittipaldi, Mario Andretti si alti fosti piloti care au reusit sa-si relanseze carierele acolo. Il amintesc doar pe Alex Zanardi. Mai era si 'tanarul' Paul Tracy, la fel si Greg Moore.. Pentru a castiga acel campionat trebuia sa fi bun pe circuite clasice, stradale, ovaluri, mici si mari, 'infricosatoarele' superspeedway de genul Michigan, Fontana, circuite pierdute acum printre cele 33 de etape din Nascar. Masinile erau adevarate bestii de aproape 1000 de cai putere care aratau superb. Lola, Reynard, Swift cu Honda, Toyota, Ford sau Mercedes, si sa nu uitam de echipa lui Dan Gurney. Prin 1997-8 Paul Tracy a atins ametitoarea viteza de 409 km\h la Michigan, iar daca lovea zidul, probabil ca se dadea singur jos din epava si facea cu mana.

Acum ce avem? Un singur constructor, un singur motorist, masini care arata ca niste go-karturi, cu 650 de cai, tone de apasare aerodinamica, mai scumpe si mai periculoase. Nu avem Michigan, Fontana, New Hampshire, Cleveland, Laguna Seca sau Road America. Avem un campionat total irelevant pe plan mondial care aranjeaza cursele, si megastaruri precum Danica Patrick si Marco Andreti care nu fac nimic in echipe de top. Conducatorii din CART si mai tarziu Champ Car au avut aur in mana, insa intr-un final a castigat Tony George, care dupa ce a stricat acest campionat, incearca sa il readuca unde fost. Dupa 13 ani de razboi, e prea tarziu...

Revenirea lui Franchitti mi se pare foarte buna. Wheldon niciodata nu a fost un pilot de top in afara circuitelor ovale. Eu inca mai sper la revenirea lui AJ Allmendinger, un alt pilot bun care isi pierde timpul prin Nascar.

Sunt curios ce se inatampla la Penske. Briscoe nu cred ca va ramane. Oricum trebuie sa asteptam, Penske niciodata nu si-a anuntat pilotii inaintea incheierii sezonului. A facut-o o singura data...cu Greg Moore in 1999 :(.

Acum mi-am dat seama. Franchitii, campionul din 2006 va fi coechipier cu (probabil) campionul din 2007, pe care sezonul trecut la invins in ultimul viraj. Ziceam mai sus de Bourdais, pentru ca e posibil ca Rahal sa plece de la NHL, fie la Penske, asa am citit acum cateva luni, fie in Europa in GP2. Fata Marii, e posibil ca Bourdais sa ramana, unde este dar cei din F1 nu sunt cunoscuti pentru rabdare, si Vettel a cam maturat circuitele cu Seabass anul asta. Nu cred ca il intereseaza pe Berger cate titluri ChampCar sau cat talent are francezul...

Vom vedea ce se intampla si cu Tracy, Forsythe, sa nu uitam au anuntat ca vor sa intre in 2009 in IRL, oare pe cine vor aduce acestia? E o coincidenta ca i-am pomenit in aceeasi fraza, nici nu poate fi vorba de o reconciliere in PT si Forsythe.

Din nou scandal. Sansele de a castiga campionatul s-au micsorat si mai mult pentu Castroneves. Acesta a fost retrogradat pana pe ultimu loc al grilei, dupa ce a postat un timp bun de locul 5. Motivul este ca trecut de numeroase ori cu 2 roti, sub linia alba de pe interiorul ovalului de la Chicago. Dixon pleaca de pe 2. Briscoe e in pole. Tare!

DTM ar putea aparea in locul celor din IRL anul viitor la Surfers, cursa care in acest an nu va conta pt campionat, iar "daca IRL sunt atat de prosti" DTM va zice multam frumos. Pe langa ei mai sunt si A1GP, asa ca Tony George are inca o sansa sa-si demostreze imbecilitatea, si din pacate cred ca o va face.

Comentariul este sub orice critica intr-adevar. La fel se intampla si in DTM. Pacat. Mai bine lasa comentariul in engleza la IRL.

Vitor Meira l-a inlocuit pe englezul Darren Manning in cadrul echipei AJ Foyt. Acesta va concura la Surfers Paradise pe 26 octombrie si in sezonul 2009.

Altfel, Franck Montagny a testat in aceasta saptamana pentru Andretti Green Racing pe ovalul din Kentucky.


"It was all new for me and, to be honest, it was not so easy at the beginning," he said. "It's very difficult to do everything well and the set-ups are very different from all that I know.

"You have to feel the perfectly and after six laps I was able to stay flat out in Turns 1 and 2. It's a question of feeling the car before it starts to slide. And even if I often go fast in a race car, I had never done almost 220mph in corners before and it gives you some big sensations.

"I would have preferred to be on track with other cars, to see what it's like in traffic, but that will be for next time. I enjoyed the test and I'd like to race in the IRL in 2009. The team want to keep me on board, either in this series or ALMS, but it depends on the money and I also have some opportunities in Europe. Everything should be decided in October."

Dupa Dario Franchitti, un alt pilot care aproape de INDYCAR este Stanton Barrett, acesta urmand sa piloteze pentru Team 3G, noua aparitie in peisajul campionatului american de monoposturi.


"I am thrilled to be joining Team 3G and the IndyCar Series in 2009," said the 35-year-old American.

"I feel the time is right to move to the IndyCar Series. They have a lot of momentum, and I think they will continue to grow in po****rity with fans and corporate marketers."

The Beck Motorsport team on which 3G is based have been involved in the IRL IndyCar Series since its inception, but have not found the backing to complete a full season since 2001. Their only appearance this year was at the Motegi round with Roger Yasukawa, as they then failed to qualify for the Indianapolis 500.

Nope, anul trecut l-a invins Franchitti in ultimul viraj din ultima cursa, iar cei doi vor fi coechipieri anul viitor la Ganassi. De fapt incepand chiar de la Surfers.

Cum am spus mai sus, cei din IRL isi vor demonstra probabil din nou incompenenta si vor renunta anul viitor la fabulosul circuit australian, ceea ce ar insemna ca Aussie Vineyards nu-l vor mai sponsoriza pe Will Power. Deja se aude ca acesta va fi inlocuit de Raphael Matos. Ar fi pacat pentru Power...

Paul Tracy l-a dat in judecata pe Forsythe... L-am admirat enorm pe Forsythe pentru sutele de milioane de dolari investite in CC, iar campionatul a ajuns pana unde ajuns in mare parte datorita lui PT si Forsythe, iar acum cei doi se trag de par prin tribunale. E cam trist ca s-a ajuns aici.

Campionul din Indy Lights, Rafael Matos, va concura in 2009 in seria IndyCar pentru echipa Luczo Dragon Racing.


"I'm extremely excited about the opportunity," Matos said. "It's definitely the biggest step in my career. This is such a young and promising organisation.

"I've worked really hard to get here, and I'm willing to do whatever it takes to win races, and obviously our ultimate goal is the championship.

Superbul circuit de la Surfers Paradise (Australia) ar putea ramane in calendarul IndyCar pana in 2013.


"As far as we're concerned it is full steam ahead of Indy on the Gold Coast this year and beyond," she was quoted as saying by goldcoast.com.au.

"Our commitment to the future of the race has seen us renew our agreement through to 2013 and we have signed an memorandum of understanding with the IRL."

"We knew the Gold Coast wouldn't yet be listed on next year's IRL calendar because we are still negotiating the dates," she said. "They will not be finalised until we sit down with the IRL during this year's Indy.

"We are committed to ensuring that there is a formula race as well as a V8 car race."

Fostul Champ Car Atlantics are un nou proprietar. Un fost pilot,si om de afaceri Ben Johnston a cumparat seria de la Kalkhoven si Forsythe. Deasemenea el va pune la punct un nou campionat incepand din 2009 folosind fostele sasiuri Champ car Panoz si Reynard. Nu cred ca se pune problema unui campionat rival, mai mult un campionat de amatori. Sunt curios ce amatori vor putea tine in frau masinile alea si un motor Cosworth de 650CP.

Acum ar fi o nebunie. Pe vremea cand Emerson Fittipaldi era in Champ Car, ma rog CART si Senna testa pentru Penske erau alte vremuri. Mansell a parasit F1 dupa ce a devenit campion pentru a concura acolo. Acum Honda ar trebui sa sara foarte multi bani pentru a-l aduce pe Rubens. Oricum depinde de ce va face Alonso, daca acesta va trece la Honda, anul viitor, Rubens e liber, daca nu, nu.

Timpii primei zi de antrenamente de la Surfers. Will Power este 1.3 sec mai rapid decat restul plutonului. Asta trebuie sa fie cursa lui. 2 ani la rand in Champ Car ar fi trebuit sa castige la el acasa, sper ca acuma sa o faca...
