Career summary

Cohen rose to prominence in the skating community during the 2000 United States Figure Skating Championships. Just up from juniors, Cohen was in first place after the short program. She fell to second after the free skating, but qualified for the world team. While she was technically too young to go to the World Figure Skating Championships, there was a loophole at the time that if she medaled at the World Junior Figure Skating Championships, she would be allowed to go to senior worlds. Cohen was unable to medal at world juniors and so did not go to senior worlds.

Cohen was unable to compete at the 2001 Nationals due to a stress fracture, but took back her silver medal at the 2002 Nationals, earning her a trip to the Olympics. Cohen competed at the 2002 Winter Olympics in Salt Lake City, Utah, finishing 4th. Her best season was 2003–2004, when she took gold at three Grand Prix events and silver at both the U.S. National Championships and the World Championships. Cohen placed 2nd at the 2005 U.S. National Championships in Portland, and the World Championships in Moscow, Russia. She had to withdraw from the 2005 Grand Prix events due to a recurring back injury.

Sasha era preferata mea la feminin, unul dintre motive fiind exprimat mai sus :)

Figure skater Sasha Cohen was born Alexandra Pauline Cohen on October 26, 1984 in Westwood, California. Her parents are Galina and Roger Cohen, and she has a sister Natasha, a dog and two cats. An Olympic silver medalist in figure skating in 2006, Sasha was also the gold medalist at the U.S. Figure Skating Championships in 2006, and placed third at the World Championships. She lives in Orange County, California and is coached by John Nicks. Her 2006 Olympics programs were Dark Eyes, and Romeo and Juliet.
According to the a Harris Poll conducted in 2006, Sasha Cohen is one of the top 10 female athletes in the U.S. But her notoriety is not limited to ice skating -- she will be appearing in 2007 in the independent film "Moondance Alexander", as well as a future episode of CSI: NY, and a number of advertisements and commercials. Known also for her elegance and costume design, Sasha is also sought after for modeling and fashion design.

The past few years, Sasha Cohen has been competing at the U.S. Nationals figure skating competitions and Worlds Championships, and skating with the Champions on Ice figure skating show tour every spring and summer along with Michelle Kwan and other Olympic medalists in figure skating. Blades of Glory is a sloppy piece of work, with a thoroughly illogical narrative and glaring technical glitches. (The skating sequences rely so heavily on CGI, they may as well have been fully animated.) But then, none of the millions of moviegoers flocking to Blades of Glory on opening weekend expect a great story or state-of-the-art F/X--they're just looking for a few good laughs. Thus, any review of the film must first answer the question: "Is it funny?" Well...yes, but not because of anything first-time directors Will Speck and Josh Gordon or the four credited screenwriters bring to the table. This is a textbook example of a movie that was made entirely in the casting room. By hiring nimble comic minds like Will Arnett, Amy Poehler, Jenna Fischer, Craig T. Nelson and, of course, Will Ferrell, the filmmakers wisely surrounded themselves with people who know how to wring solid belly laughs out of a paper-thin premise.

Set in the world of championship figure skating, Blades of Glory revolves around the rivalry between the sport's two leading male skaters-socially awkward prodigy Jimmy MacElroy (Jon Heder) and wild man of the rink Chazz Michael Michaels (Ferrell). After tying for the gold medal at the World Championships, their mutual animosity boils over into a full-blown fistfight. Disgraced, they are both slapped with a lifetime ban from competitive skating by a jury made up of real-life Olympians Nancy Kerrigan, Brian Boitano, Peggy Fleming and Dorothy Hamill.

Fast-forward three-and-a-half years and Jimmy is lacing up kids' ice skates at a sporting-goods store while Chazz makes nightly drunken appearances in a crappy Ice Capades knockoff. Just as they're on the verge of abandoning all hope of ever resuming their careers, help arrives in the unexpected form of Jimmy's number-one fan (and stalker), Hector (Nick Swardson), who informs him that he can compete in the World Championships after all...as a pairs skater. When his search for a female partner doesn't pan out, Jimmy's coach (Nelson) comes up with the bright idea of pairing his pupil with his old enemy. Although relations between Jimmy and Chazz are initially frosty, after a few training montages, they're amazed to discover that they actually like each other--in a totally heterosexual way, of course. But one obstacle still blocks their path to reclaiming the gold medal: the brother/sister skating team of Stranz and Fairchild Van Waldenberg (Arnett and Poehler), who are willing to do whatever it takes to remain the sport's reigning champs, especially if it involves cheating.

(03/20/2008) - Sasha Cohen isn't going to let Kristi Yamaguchi steal the reality show spotlight.

Cohen will be one of sixteen celebrities competing in Secret Talents of the Stars, a weekly talent show featuring unknown talents of well-known personalities. The series will premiere live on Tues., April 8, on CBS.

For those of you alive in the 1970's, think Battle of the Network Stars but with Ringling Bros., Cirque du Soleil, The Flying Karamazov Brothers and other experts as the trainers.

Every week, the stars will compete against each other to surmise which one has the best hidden talent. Each participant will develop a unique unknown skill, and then perform it with one of the headline troupes. Their performances will be graded by a panel of three judges, but a viewer vote will determine who gets voted off the show each week.

Cohen will try her hat at being a contortionist by performing with the "New Shanghai Circus."

Celebrities competing in Secret Talent of the Stars is a veritable "who's not" of Hollywood D-listers. Cohen should shine against fellow competitors Clint Black, George Takei, Malcolm-Jamal Warner, Marla Maples, Ric Flair, Joe Frazier, Bridget Marquardt, Mya, Danny Bonaduce, Sheila E., Roy Jones, Jr., Cindy Margolis and Ben Stein.

(04/10/2008) - Despite bending over backwards, Sasha Cohen couldn't save Secret Talents of the Stars from cancellation. After a 2.9 rating Tuesday night, CBS pulled the reality show after just one episode.

The series was set to air through the end of May, with a variety of B-List celebrities vying for spots in the semifinals and finals as they practiced hidden talents that ranged from stand-up comedy to walking a circus high-wire.

Cohen's talent was being a contortionist. Her skills had put her through to the semifinals.

The petite powerhouse will continue touring in Stars on Ice through the early summer. She said in an interview earlier this week with icenetwork.com that she may consider returning to competition in 2009.

(07/17/2008) - "I've gone back to really tough training this summer," says 2006 U.S. champion Sasha Cohen, 23. "I haven't really trained for more than two years, so it's really tough. Last year, I didn't skate at all. I went to acting school. This is time for me to train without any pressure of having to compete.

"I can get comfortable with the new system and get back the elements-the footwork, the spins. Start working on all my jumps again that I left alone for a while. I don't like to say what it will be or won't be. This is a summer I've dedicated to training."

When Cohen took a step back from competition following her silver medal at the 2006 Winter Olympics and bronze at 2006 worlds (she also won world silver in 2004 and '05), she said she hoped to return and compete at the 2009 ISU World Figure Skating Championships in her hometown of Los Angeles. That appears out, as Cohen will again tour the U.S. with Stars on Ice, but as the saying goes, "I'm still keeping my options open."

This past season was Cohen's debut with Stars on Ice and she was the tour's headliner.

"It was totally amazing," she says. "I didn't know what to expect going in. It's a completely different format [than Champions on Ice]. You're on the road a lot longer. You sleep on the bus. Different show, different management, different skaters. It turned out to be amazing. Everyone was really close. The choreographers are amazing. The amount of work and energy people put into the show really shows. We had the best time and we worked really hard. It way exceeded my expectations."

Cohen jokes she spent much of the show in quick change, as she performed both solos and group routines (seven routines in all). "It's so wonderful to do stuff that you wouldn't get a chance to do otherwise and push yourself creatively," she says. "It keeps you really fresh and excited."

After finishing Stars on Ice (both U.S. and Canada), Cohen went on a three-week vacation with her mother, sister and a friend. They went to London and Bath in England, then to Athens and then on a cruise of the Greek Islands, up the coast of Croatia and Slovenia and onto Venice. From Venice, they took a train to Positano, where they saw Pompei and Amalfi. From there they came home.

Cohen is performing shows in Korea this weekend and then onto Japan next week. After Japan, she'll return to Southern California for more training. In late August, she'll skate in the renowned Sun Valley ice show. She'll also make time to go to the wedding of castmates Marie France Dubreuil and Patrice Lauzon. She is also committed to skating in Michael Weiss' foundation fundraiser in September. This fall, Cohen anticipates performing in three or four Disson Skating shows and then it's onto Stars on Ice rehearsals. The show opens Thanksgiving weekend.

She admits her lack of summer training last year left her playing catch-up in the autumn. She'll come into the new season fully ready. Coach Faye Kitariev is overseeing Cohen's training and is helping her choreograph programs for the Disson shows. Cohen says training is simultaneously frustrating and satisfying. "I'll have patience and keep pushing and see where it goes," she notes. "My body is like, 'Agh!' I forgot what real training was like.

"I would really love to come back to one more Olympics," she adds. "The whole magnitude of it is amazing. I love the sense of purpose and challenge.
