Open-ul Galez - face parte din cele 8 turnee din circuitul profesionist de snooker, in care se acorda puncte contand pt clasamentul final. Denumirile sale anterioare au fost: Regal Welsh Open si the Senator Welsh Championship. Turneul, care in momentul de fata se desfasoara in Newport, a devenit turneu oficial in care se acumuleaza puncte, din 1992.

Matthew Stevens

"That's the way it is but hopefully now I can get back into gear and start off in Newport with a win"

In privinta posibilitatii ca Ronnie O`Sullivan sa castige pt a treia oara consecutiv turneul, ceea ce ar fi o premiera in istoria openului Galez, Stevens a declarat:

"I hope not! Not if I can help it. Apart from John (Higgins) he's the man to beat."

"In my eyes he's the best in the world still and we all look to him because he's a fantastic player - his record speaks for that - but hopefully it'll be my week instead."

"I don't even feel that bad, it was just a nothing sort of game. Apart from in a couple of frames I really struggled badly."
"It was one of those days where I just couldn't play. James didn't have to do much to beat me."

"It was tough playing John because he's been the most consistent player this season.
"My form has always been there, it's just about getting the results. No matter how well you play the hardest thing is to win."

Finala Welsh Open 2006
Stephen Lee 9-4 Shaun Murphy

Prin adjudecarea openului galez, Lee a castigat al patrulea titlu din cariera. Dupa ce a castigat primele 4 jocuri din debutul finalei, urmate de revenirea lui Murphy care in pauza dintre cele doua sesiuni se apropiase cu era condus cu 5-3, Lee si`a mentinut avantajul si in sesiunea de seara pe care a deschis`o cu un break de 88 de puncte, incheind`o cu victoria...
