Lindemann began skating when he was four. "My father wanted me to be a soccer player like he was, but my mother thought I should try skating so she took me to the rink. I do play soccer sometimes, but just with my friends to relax." He landed his first triple jump, a triple toe loop, when he was thirteen and his first quad, also a toe loop, when he was 16 or 17. "I like jumps the most," he said. "It's a great feeling to be in the air, turning around four times. It's like flying." He has also been practicing the quad salchow and the quad lutz, but hasn't landed any of the jumps cleanly. Lindemann has already gone into the record books as the first German to land a quadruple jump in competition at the Bofrost Cup on Ice, where he won both the jumping competition and the long program to take the overall gold medal.

"I enjoyed the jump competition at the Bofrost Cup very much," he said. "I was very relaxed there. There was more audience participation and more fun. For me, it wasn't as difficult as doing a short program. I like the new judging system too. It's good that you can move up many places by yourself and not because of other skaters' mistakes, but I don't like it when you two-foot a harder jump and get less credit than a clean lesser jump. From the judges marks at Skate America, I saw that my marks for spins were not so good, so I've been working more on spins in practice, but spins are hardest for me." Lindemann noted that in the non-CoP competitions he will be attempting a quad toe/triple toe in both his short and his long programs. "I want to get the feeling for doing it in every program," he added.

Lindemann tries to change either the short or the long program each year, but not both. Iwo Svec choreographs his programs. This year, he is using music from the Earnest soundtrack for the short program and Le Petit Poucet for the long. "The short program is a Dixie-jazz piece that my choreographer found for me," he said. "Several years ago I used music like that and I thought about going back to it. Last year I only used the free program at Nationals and Europeans so I wanted to use it again. We had two choices for the music, this or "Spy Game", but this is more difficult than the other. I didn't want to skate an easy program even though I'm not so good at presentation." Off ice, he said he enjoys "black, soul and rhythm and blues music."

Lindemann trains with coach Ilona Schindler in Erfurt, except in the summer when the rink has no ice. Then he goes to Oberstdorf or Austria for summer camps for two or three weeks at a time. In season, he normally works for three hours on ice every day, plus another 2-3 hours off ice. He does ballet and conditioning work and lifts weights in the gym. In the summer, he goes cycling with the speed skaters in his local club, but said he doesn't like jogging because "it's boring running by yourself." He also spends four or five weeks training in the German Army. "I am just a regular soldier," he said. "I've been in the Army three years and have reached the third rank." But he doesn't intend to make it a career "I have started to study at home in sports and tourist management. A lot of people want to do sports and there are a lot of jobs in Germany so I'd like to go in that direction. I pan to compete for sure until 2006. After that I'll decide on my career."

For fun, he likes to play tennis, visit clubs, and watch movies, especially comedies and movies with George Clooney and Robert DeNiro, his favorite actors. He saves all the badges from his skating events and keeps the toys he receives in his apartment. "I use my computer a lot at home," he added. "I use it for email and to see what's new in the world and in skating." On holiday, he likes to go to either to the beach or to the mountains for skiing. "Last year was the first time I went skiing for five years," he noted. Lindemann, who speaks German and English, plus a little French and Russian, enjoys travel. "I want to visit Australia to visit my cousin in Sydney some day," he said.

Stefan hat bis zum 1. Juni einen Lehrgang bei der Bundeswehr in Sonthofen. Das Gute ist, dass Oberstdorf in der Nähe ist, so dass er seine neuen Schlittschuhe dort schon einlaufen kann. Auch Joggen kann man dort hervorragend, meinte er in einem Interview mit Tanja. Ab Juni wird er in Berlin auf dem Eis sein. Dann möchte er versuchen, wieder einen Lehrgang mit Mishin zu machen. Der war ja die letzten Jahre im August in Spanien und ist vielleicht dieses Jahr wieder dort. Stefan hofft, dass er dann dorthin fahren kann. Ihm hat das Training beim Lehrgang in St. Petersburg gut gefallen und es wäre mal was ganz Neues, denn in Spanien hat er noch nicht trainiert.
Über die Wettkampfplanung hat er sich noch keine Gedanken gemacht wie er sagte. Er will auch noch abwarten, welche Grand Prix er bekommt. Die Nebelhorn-Trophy wird sicher ein Einstiegswettkampf sein, dann die zwei Grand Prix und er hat vor, die Golden Spin in Zagreb zu laufen, weil dort die EM sein wiird. Er wird versuchen mehr Wettkämpfe zu laufen.

To choose a new program is always a hard task. I have to find the right music that reflects my life, with lyrics to match my feelings. But I’m very happy about skating in the SOI, I like the shows very much. In competitions I have to prove myself the whole time. Shows are more relaxed, there’s not as much stress and we have fun together. In competitions I always skate alone, but here I can share the ice with others which is interesting. And it’s an honor to skate with the likes of Katarina Witt, Ilia Kulik and the others. I think it’s a great idea to mix the cast like this. Us eligible skaters know each other from competitions like the World and European Championships, so it’s nice. But to skate with professional skaters is a really good thing since we learn from their experience, get ideas and tips we can use and then can pass on to the junior skaters

Später im Sommer soll die Zeit auf dem Eis dann wieder steigen. Die Läufer kamen verschwitzt und mit roten Backen aus der Turnhalle auf das Eis. "Die Bedingungen hier in Berlin sind sehr gut, weil man das ganze Jahr mindestens in einer Halle Eis hat. Auch Athletik und Ballett stimmen hier, die Leichtathletikhalle ist ja direkt neben der Eishalle. Das ist ein Vorteil gegenüber Erfurt", meint Stefan, der vor einem Jahr nach Berlin zog, alelrdings weiterhin für seinen Verein in Erfurt startet. "Außerdem tut ein Wechsel immergut. Sehr motivierend ist für mich auch, dass ich mit ein paar anderen guten Läufern in einer Trainingsgruppe trainieren kann und nicht allein meine Kreise ziehen mus". Der 26jährige wohnt kostengünstig im Internat, nur einige Minuten zu Fuß von der Eishalle entfernt. "Anfangs hatte ich vor, mir in diesem Frühjahr ein Appartement zu mieten. Aber jetzt bleibe ich hier wohl doch noch länger, weil es sehr praktisch ist. Zurzeit laufe ich neue Schlittschuhe ein, habe die Schuhmarke gewechselt, Ingo Steuer hat mir bei der WM in Tokio den Tipp gegeben, es mal mit diesen amerikanischen zu versuchen, weil das Leder meiner bisherigen Schuhe nach einigen Monaten immer sehr weich wurde."
Im April und Mai war der Zeitsoldat 8 Wochen bei der Bundeswehr und ist jetzt Feldwebel. "Dies war mein letzter großer Lehrgang. In den nächsten beiden Jahren kann ich dann meine Saisonvorbreitung ganz in Ruhe schon im April oder Mai beginne, vor allem im Olympiajahr". Seine Trainerin ergänzt: "Eigentlich war meine Läufergruppe im Mai zu einem Konditionstraining an der Ostsee. Aber den hat Stefan ausgelassen, sonst hätte er den ganzen Bundeswehrlehrgang im nächsten Jahr noch einmal wiederholen müssen. Daher muss er jetzt noch mehr Kondition powern als die anderen." Angeleitet wird er dabei von dem ehemaligen Leichtathleten Uwe Michael Hüttenrauch, der seit Jahren Eiskunstläufer, Eisschnellläufer und Leichtathleten in Sportforum in Berlin konditionell betreut.
Der Blick von Stefan auf die kommende Saison ist klar: "Ich tue alles, damit ich gesund bleib, und will einen deutlichen Schritt nach vorne machen. Nach der Nebelhorn-Trophy kommen die Grand Prix in Kanada und in Japan. Ich freue mich, dass ich wieder zwei bekommen habe und will dort zweimal unter die besten Fünf. Dazwischen starte ich vielleicht noch bei der Golden Spin in Zagreb. Bei der deutschen Meisterschaft möchte ich meinen Titel verteidigen. Bei EM und WM möchte ich mich beide Male unter die Top Ten vorarbeiten." Hendyrk Schamberger macht das Grobkonzept für eine neue Kür mit Musik von "Beetle Juice", eventuell soll Maxim Stavinski später an der Kür feilen. Noch nicht entschieden ist, welches Kurzprogramm Stefan laufen wird.
Für August war auch ein zehntägiges Höhentraining bei Alexei Mishin in den Pyrenäen geplant, aber das steht in den Sternen.
Lindemanns kurzfristige Ziele stehen fest: "Ich will bis 2010 laufen und noch einmal bei Olympia starten, auch wenn ich dann schon 29 Jahre alt bin und sicher zu den älteren Läufern zähle. Aber ich will beweisen, dass der 21. Platz von Turin nicht meinem Niveau entsprochen hat. " Ob es zu Plätzen ganz vorne reichen wird, so wie 2004?

Stefan is preparing intensely for the coming season. There are 2 hours on the ice and 2-3 daily condition trainings, often already starting at 7:30am cause of the heat in the athletics gym since April. Later he should be more often on the ice. “The conditions here in Berlin are very good, cause you have ice in at least 1 ice rink. Also the athletic and ballet part is good, the athletic gym is next door. Thats a pro compared to Erfurt.” said Stefan, who moved 1 year ago to Berlin but still skate for his club in Erfurt. “It's also very motivating for me that I can train with some other good skaters in a group and not have to skate by myself.” The 26 year old Stefan is living in an inexpensive residential school, where he just have a few minutes to walk the ice rink. “At the beginning I wanted to rent a apartment this spring, but now I want to stay there cause it's very practical. Right now I'm breaking new skates in cause I changed the brand. During the Worlds Ingo Steuer gave me the tip to try American skates cause the leather of my skates became always very soft after several months.

During April and May the non-career soldier has been in the German federal armed forces for 8 weeks and has become a staff sergeant. “ This was my last big training. In the next 2 years I can start unhurriedly with my seasons preparations already in April or May, over all in the Olympic season.” His coach completes: “ Actually my running group was at the Baltic Sea in May for a condition training. But Stefan didn't participate cause otherwise ha had to do the complete federal armed forces training again next season. Hence he has to train now more than the others.” He will be instruct by the former athlete Uwe Michael Hüttenrauch, who has supervised figure skater, speed skater and athletes conditionally since years.

Stefan has a clearly conception for the upcoming season: “ I do everything to stay healthy, and I wanna do a big step forward. After the Nebelhorn Trophy will be the GP in Canada and in Japan. I'm happy that I can participate at 2 Gps and wanna get both times among the top 5. In between maybe I'll skate at the Golden Spin in Zagreb. At the German Nats I'll keep my title. At the Euros and Worlds I'll work hard to get among the top 10 both times.” Hendryk Schamberger is doing a little concept for his new LP to the music of "Beetle Juice". It's also possible that Maxim Staviski will work out the details of it later. Till now there's no decision about the SP. In August a 10day-altitude-training with Alexei Mishin in the Pyrenees is planned , but that's not sure now.

Lindemann's near-timed goals are predefined: “I'll skate till 2010 and participate one more time at the Olympics, even when I'm already 29 years old and be for sure one of the older skaters. But I wanna prove that the 21st place in Turin didn't come up to my level.” If it'll last for positions on top like in 2004?

Since the beginning of June I'm in training again after having finished the last course at the army.

My new free skate to the music of Beetlejuice is finished but has to be improved in some details.

Until my first competition I have five weeks left. I hope that I'm fit until then because at the moment it's a bit difficult. And I have some problems with my new skates that still don't really want to belong to me. But I still have some time and I will take care that I'm already in the first competition of this season able to show a good performance.

Three weeks ago he had a strain on his adductor (nush exact dk e corect - deh traslatoru online). Now he does his normal training again but Nebelhorn Trophy would be too soon.
He's saying that he tried to stay fit with jogging but he still needs some time on the ice. But he hopes that he will be fit again for Skate Canada.

He's first competition of the season should be now the NHK Trophy at the beginning of of Decembers in Japan. "up to then is hopefully everything past. I am sad that I have each year in the autumn of injury problems, but I can not change it ", stated WM third of 2004. In the past year the Erfurter had to call the complete Grand Prix series off because of a virus infection.

The dates are this Donnerstgag and Friday and I in star mountain, operated with Munich...
How does it look like the OI? I will have to let the scars in all peace heal completely, so that everything grows together well and I have no more problems for the future.

Lindemann back on the ice
The sechsmalige German figure skating champion Stefan Lindemann, the Eistraining after his four-month injury break.

Now don't get me wrong. Skating is my sport of choice, my passion. However since following the lead of Stefan Lindemann of Germany, I am finding that cross training can also keep you motivated and making progress in your focal sport. Even more, x-training with cycling is incredibly fun and exhilarating.

So how did Stefan go from being a non-contender in 2002 to the podium in 2004? Stefan's last placement at a World Championship was 18th! What he did differently this time to earn himself a bronze medal at the 2004 world's was to take a cue from his country's speed skaters. The German Speed Skating Team has long held cycling as an integral part of their training. Stefan said he had a fresh surge of energy at the start of the season which for him began in May. "I started doing bike training with the speed skaters...between 70 and 110 kilometers a day". That's roughly 40 to 70 miles per day! Now an average Class C cyclist will go between 10 - 11 MPH so you can about figure how much time Stefan spent in "the saddle" last spring.

Q: Can you please look back on what happened in last year?
A: It’s been a while since I had my last competition, Worlds in Tokyo in 2007. After that everything went as usual, but then it turned out that I had a groin injury and I needed to undergo surgery. I had surgery on both sides, because I was permanently in pain, most of all on the right side. That was in November (2007), and after that I started a rehab training over several months to get back and to be able to do all moves. We consciously decided to take the time that everything can heal properly. I’m a little older now and we didn’t want to risk anything and therefore I cancelled the past season. Luckily I’m pain-free now and I’m preparing for this season, I’ll be back this season and I hope everything will be fine.

Q: When do you plan to compete again?
A: My plan is to skate in early November at the Berlin Open Championships and then to skate in two or three smaller competitions in Germany and to go to Nationals. This will be my first highlight. We consciously decided to start a bit later to give me some more time to get back and we decided to do national competitions only so I can get used to it again. I think the focus would be too big if I started to compete internationally right away. I think this is the right way and I hope to be in good shape at Nationals to be able to qualify for Europeans.

Q: How did you get through the long time of rehab and who helped you in this time?
A: Of course it was difficult in the beginning, because I started early into the season and then suddenly this injury happened. So it was hard to get through all this, but my family helped me a lot, especially my parents. I stayed with them for almost three months when I was back in Erfurt, at home. Then in Berlin, my coach (Viola Striegler), who always believed in me and supported me, was a big help. This made it easier for me to get through this time. It was more difficult during the European and World Championships as I was able to watch them only on TV. But this is over now and I’m back on the ice and optimistic.

Q: How is your practice going?
A: I have to stay it’s going quite well. However, I had a sort of a low point for two weeks when I struggled a little with the elements and the jumps most of all. They were really good, and suddenly they were gone somehow and I didn’t understand why. I think maybe it’s normal that after such a long break the jumps are working for a while and then you fall into such a little hole. But I think I’m on track now.

Q: ...and feel motivated?!
A: Definitely! I’m motivated anyway and I’m here (at Nebelhorn Trophy) to get even more motivation, to get the competition feeling back. Yesterday I already felt like I wanted to skate with everybody, but there is a time for everything.

Q: What kind of programs do you have? Which music did you choose?
A: I’m back now with my old choreographer, Iwo Swec, and we created a new short program to the music of „The Firm“. It’s a kind of jazzy style. I really like it. It’s very dynamic.

Q: ... and it should suit you very well!
A: Yes, it does suit me, and it’s something different for me, maybe a little like the short program that I had in Dortmund (in 2004), but it’s still different. Originally I had a new free program, which was planned for the past season, but now I will go back to my old free program that I skated at 2007 Worlds. I’m doing this just because to make it a little easier for me, because this is a program that I know, that I’ve competed before, but not too often. This was Iwo’s idea, and so I watched the program on video and I will completely revamp it here next week.

Lindemann’s daring comeback

Sixfold German master Stefan Lindemann dares after 20 months of injury break a new beginning. " I hope that I can enjoy it, because I am good on it, " said the 28-year-old before his start with the NRW-Trophy where he is supported by his training colleagues.

« I have intensely pursued the Grand Prix series on television and and know that there is still a lot to do for me" says », says the former junior world champion self-critically. Nevertheless, he has trained so well that nothing is in way of a well-arranged comeback. «I can go reassured to the competition », thinks Lindemann.
Coach Viola Striegler credits her protege « with everything ». Lindemann messes up comeback

6-times German figure skating master Stefan Lindemann has messed up his comeback after 20-month injury break. With the NRW-Trophy in Dortmund the 28-year-old inhabitant of Erfurt landed only on rank 16.

Peste 2000 de sibieni s-au strâns la cea de-a doua ediţie a show-ului pe gheaţă. Ei au aplaudat evoluţiile deosebite ale patinatorilor veniţi din mai multe ţări europene. Sportivii care au evoluat pe patinoarul din Piaţa Mare au în palmares numeroase participări sau titluri la campionatele europene şi mondiale. Patru dintre ei, printre care şi românca Roxana Luca se pregătesc acum pentru Campionatul European de la Helsinki. Un alt spectacol pe gheţă va fi oferit sibienilor în 27 decembrie, când la Sibiu vor veni alţi 12 patinatori internaţionali, printre care şi vice-campionul european din 2004, Stefan Lindemann.

Se pare ca iar e compromis sezonul international .... Stefan s-a retras de la campionatele nationale datorita unei gripe destul de serioase. Astfel s-au dus sansele pentru europene si are sanse infime la mondiale ... doar in cazul in care niciunul dintre patinatorii germani nu se claseaza in primii 12 s-ar putea face o exceptie :(

Lindemann calls off dm start because of illness

The season has barely begun, and for 6-times German figure skating master Stefan Lindemann is seems already to an end. The 28 year-old inhabitant of Erfurt had to call off his start with the German masteries in Oberstdorf because of a feverish cold.

« He has 39 degrees of fever, it does not go », said his Berlin coach Viola Striegler of the German press agency DPA. « We are very sad because he cannot start with it internationally in this season. The German masteries were for it the qualification-competition. »

Pentru ca nici unul dintre patinatorii germani nu s-a clasat mai sus de locul 12 biletul pt mondiale se va redisputa in cadrul unei competitii la inceputul lui martie la haga.

Lindemann at the Nebelhorn Trophy

Now 6 weeks I was treated and my season thereby was over again, before she had generally started. I was in treatment of OSP Berlin and into the bargain 3 weeks in Munich under the magic hands of our federation physiotherapist Marianne Martin and her team. This happened in the period from middle of January till the end of February. Then the treatment was continued in parallel with construction training in Berlin. Since then I am absolutely painless till this day.

In April I have rehearsed a new choosing to the Filmusik Hancock. It became Choerographiert of Iwo Svec. I had rehearsed the short program to sounds from the film " the company " already in the last season.

At the moment it runs very well. Last week I could show with a sighting already a perfect short program. Still there is an amount to act, because at the end of September it is about the Olympic qualification place for Germany. For it I would like to be prepared of course very well.

From the 30.07.09th to the 08.08.09th I will graduate from a Trainngslager together with my training group and the juniors of the DEU.
